1 KARTSPORT TARANAKI NEWSLETTER Issue32 PAGE 1 February May Kartorque Kartorque Newsletter of KartSport Taranaki In this issue: President s report Birthday list Coming events And some more..read on! Howdy everyone. I m standing in this month for Donna who is busy doing other things. So, let s get into it The final points round of the Bayleys WPKA Goldstar Series held at Hawkes Bay over the weekend of May 3. Our club was represented by nine drivers. The Cadet ROK class featured Logan Smith who was 2nd overall heading into this round behind Louis Sharp of Christchurch. Corbin Smith and Euan Dwyer also made the trek to Roy s Hill for some more racing action. Robbie Johnson, Nathan Cox and Jayden Smith contested the Junior 100cc Yamaha class and Rotax Max Light featured Brad Still and Jonathan Dwyer. Brad was the series points leader heading into Rd4. The remaining senior spot was filled by Aaron de Ridder in Rotax Max Heavy. Aaron was looking to improve on his three 3rd placings from the Wellington, Manawatu and Taranaki rounds, although that seems pretty consistent to me! While not actually at the meeting, my spy tells me our drivers did us proud, with a number of great drives in each of their classes. Logan Smith ended up 4th for the weekend and 2nd= overall in the Championship, tied with Daniel Austin of Wanganui, a regular competitor at Todd Energy Raceway. Corbin recorded a 10th and Euan was 12th, both these boys missing Rd1 at Wellington. The Junior Yamaha pilots battled all weekend with Ronan Murphy (son of V8 Supercar legend, Greg) and Bayley Walker of Manawatu. Robbie brought his kart home in 4th spot, Nathan Cox finished 5th and Jayden Smith was 6th on the day. These results put Robbie Johnson in 3rd for the series. The Senior classes were again hard-fought with Brad Still carrying an 8 point buffer over SI champion, Chris Cox from Rangiora. The stage was set for a showdown with Cox scoring a round win, pushing Brad to 2nd for the weekend. Despite this result, Brad took home the WPKA Goldstar Champion Trophy yet again, it s becoming quite a habit! Jonathan Dwyer was 11th for the round, placing him in 7th overall for the championship in a very tough class. Aaron de Ridder was Mr. Consistent again and scored another 3rd place finish, behind 2NZ Zach Zaloum and Ashley Higgins. So, after 4 rounds of competition, the final points and GP points look like this for our members: Cadet ROK - Series Points 1. Louis Sharp (ChCh), 2= Logan Smith (Tki) and Daniel Austin (Man), 10. If you are intending to go, please make sure you enter this round as it is a stand-alone round and you must enter it separately. Also, to be eligible for prize money or other prizes for the series, you must attend this round to receive them. Good luck to all our competitors going and well done to Brad Still and Robbie Johnson for your achievements throughout the 2014/15 Bayleys WPKA Goldstar Series. The WPKA AGM will be held at the Championship round, so if you d like to get involved, feel free to attend Thomas Boniface attended the final round of the IKS 3-Way Series at Mt. Wellington on 17 May and despite winning Rounds 1 & 3, still had to settle for 2nd place overall. The Vortex Mini ROK class is so competitive, that any one of the drivers could have claimed the series win, well done to 2NZ Billy Frazer for taking the title. There was some talk about trying to arrange a visit from a number of Cadet drivers from Mt. Wellington (they have about 15 or so!) to our track, so I will be trying to work on this to make it happen. It could be the start of some type of reciprocal racing a throw-back to the good old days of billeting families to keep costs down and encourage some interclub competition. Keep your eyes peeled for further developments. That s about all from me at present; Donna will hopefully be doing this next month. Contrary to popular belief this is not the most efficient way to check if the GoPro is on while racing! Did you hear? The club has put in a bid to host the 2016 NZ Schools Championships at Todd Energy Raceway, so we are hoping to hear the outcome of that process soon. It s looking promising so keep your fingers crossed. It would fantastic for our club to get the event. In the March 2015 Farming Awards, Nicola and Alistair Wicksteed won two categories: Ecolab Farm Dairy Hygiene Award Triplejump Risk Management Award We believe (according to the Daily News) that the prize was $3,150. That will buy Ryan some fancy karting gear! Well done guys! Presidents Report Robert Boniface Hi everyone, Firstly, well done to all those who took part in the Bayleys WPKA Goldstar Series this year, and especially to Brad Still for AGAIN becoming the Goldstar Champion. This is no easy feat, so congrats to Brad and Maurice for dominating this series again. Also a well done to Logan Smith for a fantastic 2nd= in his first attempt at Goldstar. Robbie Johnson did well in claiming a podium place in the Junior 100cc Yamaha class, again a great achievement! To all rest of the dedicated contingent that travelled around to support the series pat yourselves on the back, especially the mums, dads and other supporters that make it possible to race. The grass is starting to grow following the recent earthworks at Todd Energy Raceway so hopefully that will sort itself out heading into Autumn. The Gough TWL Summer Series wraps up this Sunday so we are hoping for a good turnout. The numbers have been a little disappointing for the Summer Series, which in turn makes it difficult to attract and retain sponsors. There is a lot of time and energy which goes into organising these events, so we need to support them with numbers to make it worth the effort for the sponsors who stump up and for the organisers. I know we d all like to just turn up and race the reality is that just won t happen! I cocked it up last month by announcing the Vintage troupe would be in action. In fact it is THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY that the Vintage karters are at Todd Energy Raceway so that should be great. It will be disappointing if more Vintage karters turn up than Sprint karters so there s the challenge! Gough TWL has again kindly stumped up with a number of giveaways. We re still looking for a naming rights sponsor for our Winter Series, let me know if you re keen! Enjoy your racing, see you all at the track on Sunday Cheers, Robert

WITNESS: Take a guess. ATTORNEY: Are you qualified to give a urine sample? WITNESS: Are you qualified to ask that question? ATTORNEY: How old is your son, the one living with you? 7 KARTSPORT TARANAKI NEWSLETTER Issue 32 PAGE 7 Draft Honours Board Below is a copy of the draft honours board we d like some feedback on it before we commit to finalising everything. For a number of reasons, the committee has decided to only go back to 1973 (unless there are specific other achievements that need to be captured). What we don t know is if there are official National or International titles that have been won but not recorded. It is very important that these be captured, so please check the names carefully and advise me as soon as possible of any errors or omissions. As you can appreciate, it s very hard and costly to fix after the fact! I look forward to your feedback Robert ( or htbauto@xtra.co.nz)
