5 TORQUE the Holden Club magazine Jan 2012 page 5 President s Report Bruce Lethborg Hi fellow members and welcome to Hope you all had a great Christmas and new year is very special, it is the 40 th anniversary of the clubs formation as the Torana Club of Victoria at Garry and Warren Smith Holden s showroom on the 22 nd of August I m honoured to have been elected president in 40 th year of the club and hope that myself and the committee can do a good job for you and hope to see you at the meetings and events this year. The committee is planning an event at Sandown on 26 th August for the members and the public to celebrate this milestone in the club s history. Keep checking the magazine for updates; if you have any ideas or would like to help with the organising, please contact the committee, we would appreciate your contribution. Holden Ford series The Holden Ford series is back for 2012 with some bad news. Brighton Holden has decided not to renew their sponsorship of the series for I would like to take this chance to thank Brighton Holden for their support in 2011 and thank Wayne Paola for putting the deal together. Dates for 2012 are in the calendar, with the first round at Winton on Feb 19 th Members at play 2012 is a big year for a few of our members with some big events. The first is the 6hr relay at Sandown on Feb 25 th & 26 th with three teams of five cars entered. The second big event is a regularity trial at Bathurst during the festival of motorsport at Easter. There are 6 members confirmed with another 4 members on the reserve list, if all members compete, HSCCV will make up 1/5 th of the field. Not bad at all. Log books and roll cages I hope you all made the 20 th December deadline for your roll cage. I know a few members got their cars done and have their logbooks. If you missed the deadline you will now have to build your cage to 2012 spec. Peter Scott has been keeping up with the regs and he will be able to help you should you need it. HSCCV on Face book We have had a Facebook page for a while and we only have 28 friends. This is a great way to communicate and we are going to put a link on the club website and are looking into a Youtube channel, also linked to the website, that you can upload your in car vision for all to see. The VN now has it s war paint on after a long drawn out process that started last Easter and finished late October. I have put some photos up on the club Facebook page The car has been inspected and passed for log book and roll cage, so I will be hitting the track this year for some serious fun. Cheers Bruce Vice-President s Report Frank Rogan Hi Folks and welcome back. Yes, 2012 is here! We have a big year ahead with some major events already planned including our club's 40th celebration. The first motorkhana is a practice day on 29 Jan, the first sprint is 19 Feb at Winton and we've got blokes preparing their trip to Bathurst amongst other things. And there is now a date and venue booked for our 40th anniversary! August 26th has been confirmed by Sandown Raceway. Please mark that one in your calendars and share with us your ideas about how to make this a very memorable day in the club's history. This has got to my briefest magazine report in history too! 6 TORQUE the Holden Club magazine Jan 2012 page 6 CAMS Board Report BOARD BRIEF BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING (No. 249): The CAMS Board convened a meeting via telephone conference on Thursday, 15 December 2011 at 19:00 (AEDT). The Board welcome guests from the Australian Motor Sport Foundation ( AMSF ), Chairman Tom Warwick with Directors Mark Skaife and Geoff Morgan to discuss the AMSF for CONFIRMATION OF MEETING MINUTES The Board confirmed Minutes of the Meeting held on 23 November 2011, also ratifying a CAMS Board vote taken via on Friday 9 December 2011 approving the use of Snell M2000, M2005 and M2010 standard helmets in the 2011 Formula SAE event. The Board noted the Minutes of the Australian Off Road Commission dated 5 November SPLITTING OF THE OUTRIGHT ARC CHAMPIONSHIP INTO TWO 4WD OUTRIGHT AND 2WD OUTRIGHT The Board approved an Australian 2WD Rally Champion Driver and Co-Driver for 2012 and an Australian 4WD Rally Champion Driver and Co-Driver for CAMS COMMISSION NOMINATIONS The Nominations were acknowledged and continue to be finalised. State Council and Commission Chairs will be requested to further nominate for positions that remain unfilled. The Board, subject to the finalisation of the Commissions, will resolve the Board Appointed Commissioners at the first CAMS Board Meeting of PUBLICATIONS OF JUDICIAL DECISIONS The Board agreed with the recommendation from the Victorian State Council to publish Stewards Decisions for the information all members. PETER BROCK MEDAL The Board approved the nomination from the Peter Brock Selection Committee for the inaugural Peter Brock Medal. FIA COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS: The Board noted, with its congratulations the following appointments to the FIA Commissions for 2012: Land Speed Records Commission Garry Connelly World Rally Championship Commission - Peter Macneall Touring Car Commission - Tim Schenken Circuits Commission - Tim Schenken Historic Motor Sport Commission - Paul Hamilton Drag racing Commission - Greg Humphreys (ANDRA) Homologation Commission - Paul Taylor International Karting Commission - AKA representative; Craig Denton Volunteers and Officials Commission - Michael Smith Single Seaters Commission - Paul Taylor Women in Motorsport Commission - Leanne Tander Rally Commission - Peter Macneall Medical Commission - Dr Rik Hagen The Board highlighted the confirmation of Tim Schenken to the role of Deputy Chairman of the Circuits Commission. NEW ARC GROUP G2/SUV CLASSES FOR ARC: The Board noted the new Classes (Group G2/SUV Classes) being introduced into the Australian Rally Championship from 2012 onwards. These regulations will be available from January RE-APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR: Alan Evans was unanimously re-elected as Appointed Director for CAMS for a three year term. RESIGNATION OF DIRECTOR: Robyn Steward resigned as Appointed Director. On behalf of the Board and Administration Andrew Papadopoulos CAMS President, thanked Robyn, for her tremendous contribution to the organisation, both as a Director and Chairperson Audit and Risk, and wished her well for the future. ROBERT PIPER South Australian Bob Piper finished his term on the CAMS Board, after having served for eleven years. 7 TORQUE the Holden Club magazine Jan 2012 page 7 CAMS Report 2012 Permit and Licence Fees News December 2011 The CAMS Board recognises the financial environment operating across the sport and continues to pursue cost efficiencies in order to make the sport as cost effective as possible. Club level motor sport has again been the focus of the CAMS Board in its review of fees for The 2012 CAMS budget includes the following significant achievements: Level 2 licence fee have decreased by almost 8%; All other licence fees remain unchanged; Permit fees State level and below have decreased on average 15%, this is on top of the 10% reduction in CAMS President Andrew Papadopoulos said the continued focus on grass roots level motor sport remains vitally important. It is imperative that we concentrate on keeping the entry level costs of the sport minimised, to encourage more people to get involved in motor sport activity. Stable licence and reduced permit fees provide CAMS affiliated car clubs with opportunities to run successful events with improved competitor numbers. The flow on effect of this is a healthy and sustainable motor sport industry. CAMS CEO, David Morgan emphasised the fact that we recognise motor sport and the organisation has not been exempt from the effects of the recent global financial crisis and we need to continue to focus on balancing our expenditure with that of supporting and improving the sport wherever possible. The Sport & Club Development Officers continue to provide clubs, organisers and members with ongoing support through a friendly and personalised shopfront for the organisation.
