The Blue Jays carry a 36-6 record and 19-game winning streak into this week s tournament. The Mideast Region: Johns Hopkins is one of eight teams selected to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Regional at PeoplesBank Park in York, PA. The Blue Jays have previously met Shenandoah, Alvernia and Elizabethtown in the NCAA Regional, holding an 0-2 record against Shenandoah, a 1-3 record against Alvernia and a 2-1 record against Elizabethtown in NCAA Regional play. Historically Speaking: Johns Hopkins is making its 22nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament, including its 13th in the last 17 years. The Blue Jays are all-time in NCAA Regional play with three regional crowns to their credit (1989, 2008, 2010). In all, 21 of Johns Hopkins 22 tournament appearances have come since head coach Bob Babb took over in Even Advantage: JHU is as the home team in NCAA Regional action and as the away team (note that statistics are not available for JHU s 1976 appearance in the NCAA Tournament so Hopkins 1-2 record that year is not reflected in its home/ away record). The Blue Jays will be the home team against Lesley, marking the 13th time they will have home advantage in their first game of the Regional. 3 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Notes, Cont. Extra-Extra: The Blue Jays are 1-2 all-time in the NCAA Regional Tournament in extra-innings. I m Honored: Johns Hopkins placed five players on the 2017 All-Centennial Conference first team. Senior shortstop Conor Reynolds was named the Centennial Player of the Year, the 13th Blue Jay and second shortstop to earn the honor. Senior catcher Ryan Orgielewicz, junior pitcher Alex Ross, junior third baseman Mike Smith and sophomore relief pitcher Josh Hejka were named to the first team along with Reynolds. Senior outfielder Brian Lin earned a spot on the All-Centennial second team, and junior pitcher Nick Bodner earned honorable mention. Head coach Bob Babb was named the Coach of the Year. It s Academic: Johns Hopkins placed two players on the CoSIDA Academic All-Disctrit II Team that was announced on May 4. Senior right fielder Brian Lin and sophomore pitcher Harrison Folk were both named to the team. To be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.30 gradepoint average and be a starter or key reserve on his team. Lin and Folk are now on the ballot for national Academic All-America honors with that team scheduled to be announced on Wednesday, May 31. Winning Ways: The Blue Jays carry a 19-game winning streak into the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. Hopkins has not dropped a game since the first game in a doubleheader at Muhlenberg April 8. The win streak is the fourth-longest in program history and has helped Hopkins to a 36-6 record. The Blue Jays 36 wins are the most since they won 44 games in 2010, and 2017 marks the seventh time JHU has won at least 36 games in a season. We re Neutral: Johns Hopkins is 8-3 in neutral-site games this season and in neutral-site games in the last three years. Going Long: Johns Hopkins currently ranks ninth in the nation in home runs (43) and 12th in home runs per game (1.02) on the year, nearly identical to its 2016 output. Ryan Orgielewicz has been the heavy hitter for the Blue Jays in 2017, sending the ball out of the park 10 times on the season and ranking 21st in the nation in home runs. Orgielewicz also ranks 15th in the country with 110 total bases. On the Mound: The Blue Jay pitching corps ranks second in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings (2.08) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.79). The Hopkins hurlers combine to average 7.9 strikeouts per nine innings with an ERA of 3.07, the eighth best by a Division III team. Take Your Base: Conor Reynolds has drawn a JHU single-season record 40 walks on the season. Reynolds ranks seventh in the country in base on balls. The senior also holds the top spot in the Blue Jay record book with 109 career walks. Reynolds in the Rankings: In addition to his top-10 ranking in walks, Conor Reynolds rans among the top 50 in several categories. The shortstop ranks 13th in runs (52), 15th in on-base percentage (.538) and 47th in slugging percentage (.684). First Time Foes: Not only is this the first time the Blue Jays are facing Lesley, but this marks the first trip to the NCAA Regional for the Lynx, who earned the automatic bid with their first NECC Championship. Walking it Off: The Blue Jays have won six games in 2017 via walk-off.
