In addition, it is tied for the longest such streak in the history of the four major sports (also NBA from season through season). STORIED FRANCHISES MEET Despite combining for 33 World Series appearances, this marks just the second time the Dodgers and Red Sox franchises have met in the Fall Classic. This marks just the second World Series matchup in the last nine years to feature a repeat Fall Classic matchup, joining the Red Sox-Cardinals 2013 Fall Classic. Each of the other seven World Series since 2010 have featured first-time matchups. EAST VS. His 286 wins through his first three full seasons as a Major League manager rank sixth all-time, trailing Frank Chance (322), Earl Weaver (318), Ralph Houk (309), Billy Southworth (308) and Davey Johnson (296). Alex Cora, in his first season with the Red Sox, will make his first World Series appearance. Cora compiled a (.667) record in his first Major League season, leading the Red Sox to the best record in the Majors. They are the 28 th and 29 th managers in World Series history to have won the Fall Classic as a player (Roberts with Boston in was active for ALCS, but did not play in WS; Cora with Boston in 2007). The last time both managers in the World Series won a title as a player was in 2002 (Mike Scioscia of the Angels and Dusty Baker of the Giants). In 2017, casual participation in baseball rose by 12.9% with overall participation seeing a 6.0% increase. Over the last three years, baseball has seen a 49.1% growth in casual participation, which is in direct correlation to the launch of the PLAY BALL initiative.

This year s honorees include: Kassius Thomas MLB Youth Academy in Compton, CA; Kabrel Johnson New Orleans MLB Youth Academy in New Orleans, LA; David Pressley Jr. Houston Astros MLB Youth Academy in Houston, TX; Alyssa Dixon P&G Cincinnati Reds MLB Youth Academy in Cincinnati, OH; Kamarah Glasgow Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy in Washington, DC; Steven Shaffer Philadelphia Phillies MLB Youth Academy in Philadelphia, PA; Miguel Perez Torres Texas Rangers Baseball Youth Academy in Dallas, TX; Justin Cabrera DREAM Youth Academy in Bronx, NY; and Carmen Gudino Kansas City Royals MLB Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, MO. Since their inception, the cost-free, year-round Academies have seen more than 500 players go on to play on the collegiate level, more than 100 players drafted by MLB clubs, and many more establish non-playing careers. RELIEVERS OF THE YEAR AWARD: The winners of the 2018 Relievers of the Year presented by The Hartford will be announced at a press conference prior to Game 4. The press conference will include Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred, Jr., Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman and the All-Times Saves Leader Mariano Rivera, in addition to the American and National League winners. GAME BALL DELIVERY: Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Youth of the Year ( ) Malachi Haynes, will deliver the game ball of Game 4 to the mound. She will be joined by Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni Hall of Fame Inductee and star of the hit show Black-ish Anthony Anderson. Haynes is a 12-year member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver (Colorado), which he credits for helping him through rough patches and literally saving his life. He saw peers who stopped attending the Club go in the wrong direction and is grateful for the positive alternatives the Club offered and for teaching him to believe in himself. When he noticed young African-American males in his community consistently read two or three levels below their grade levels, Haynes created a Club program called Double Trouble. Each week, he and a friend identified five children to tutor. To secure participation, they promised the kids one hour of physical activity for each hour they dedicated to reading and studying. Every one of them improved their literacy level. Haynes is a freshman at Colorado State University where he is pursuing a career in kinesiology. IN-GAME SU2C MOMENT: MLB, Stand Up To Cancer and Mastercard will continue the annual Fall Classic tradition of an in-game SU2C moment at Dodger Stadium, with players, umpires, coaches and fans, as they all hold up placards with the names of loved ones affected by the disease. The moment will take place after the fifth inning and will air LIVE on FOX. MLB and its 30 Clubs are the founding donors of SU2C, committing $43 million to date to SU2C s innovative cancer research. BETTIS/TAILLON SU2C VIDEO: SU2C utilized MLB footage of Chad Bettis and Jameson Taillon discussing their cancer experiences to highlight the ways they have supported each other throughout the 2018 season. To view, you can go to facebook.com/su2c. MASTERCARD DONATION PRESENTATION TO SU2C: Mastercard will present $4 million, through its Make It a Date' campaign, to Stand Up To Cancer co-founders on-field before tonight s game. OCTOBER 27 th IN BASEBALL HISTORY Today in Baseball History, several notable feats: In 1989, in a game that had been scheduled for October 17 th, the Oakland Athletics defeated the San Francisco Giants to take a commanding 3-0 Series lead. In the moments leading up to the originally scheduled Game 3, a massive earthquakehit the Bay Area, and with power outages and warnings of mass destruction, then-commissioner Fay Vincent ordered that the game be called. The earthquake reached a 7.1 on the Richter scale, delaying the World Series by 10 days. In 1991, inspired by Kirby Puckett s dramatic home run the night before, MVP Jack Morris tossed 10 scoreless innings in the decisive Game 7, leading the Minnesota Twins to their second World Series title in five years in an epic 1-0 game. The game ended on an RBI single by Gene Larkin, fitting for a World Series that set the record for the most games ending without an out (four overall; also in Games 3, 4 and 6). There have been 56 game-ending plays in World Series history overall. In 1999, in a Fall Classic featuring the top two teams of the decade, the New York Yankees swept the Atlanta Braves for their second consecutive World Series crown and their third in four years. Roger Clemens earned the win in the Series-clinching 4-1 victory by the Yankees. John Smoltz started the game for the Braves, who ended the decade with five World Series appearances (also in and ). In 2004, when closer Keith Foulke flipped Edgar Renteria s ground ball to first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz for the final out, the Boston Red Sox completed a four-game World Series sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals, securing their first World Championship since Their 3-0 win in Game 4, started by Derek Lowe, marked the third consecutive game in which their starter went at least six innings without allowing an earned run. Manny Ramirez was named the World Series MVP after going 7-for-17 (.412) with a home run and four RBI. In 2011, St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese tied Game 6 with a two-run triple in the bottom of the ninth inning off Texas Rangers closer Neftali Feliz, and followed in the 11 th inning with the 15 th walk-off home run in World Series history, and just the fifth in Game 6-or-later.
