The game lasted five hours and 46 minutes, which was the longest Dodger game played since a five hour and 47 minute, 17-inning contest against the Padres on May 22, 2016 and was the third longest game played by the club since 1990, behind a six hour and 10 minute, 20- inning game against the Phillies on July 7, Last night s contest was also the longest game played in Chase Field history, in terms of time. After a day game tomorrow, the Boys in Blue fly to San Francisco and will enjoy an off day Thursday before three with the Giants this weekend at AT&T Park. Next week, the team returns to L.A. for a fivegame homestand, featuring a two-game Interleague series against the Oakland Athletics April 10 and 11. The Dodgers went just 8-11 against the Diamondbacks last season, including a 3-6 mark at Chase Field. However, the Dodgers turned the tables on the Snakes in the Postseason, sweeping Arizona 3-0 in the 2017 NLDS with the seriesclinching win at Chase Field. THE ACE ON THE HILL: The Dodgers, who look to bounce back and even the series against the Diamondbacks tonight, will send ace Clayton Kershaw to the mound for his second start of the season. Kershaw, who set a franchise record with his eighth consecutive Opening Day start on Thursday against the Giants, recorded the loss after allowing one run (solo homer) on eight hits in 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts. Kershaw has not started a season 0-1 since 2015, when he finished the year going 16-7 with a 2.13 ERA in 33 starts and placing third in the NL Cy Young voting. In 26 career starts against Arizona, Kershaw has gone 14-8 with a 2.55 ERA (46 ER/162.2 IP) and has held hitters to a.219 average, while striking out 187 against just 51 walks. The southpaw holds the lowest career ERA against the Snakes among qualifying pitchers with IP vs. Arizona and ranks fourth all-time in wins against the D-backs. At Chase Field, Kershaw is 5-7 with a 3.75 ERA in 12 starts and hasn t started a regular season game in Phoenix since June 15, 2016 (W, 7.1 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 11 K). ZACH ATTACK: Prior to tonight s contest, the Dodgers selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Zach Neal (#49) from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed right-handed pitcher Josh Fields on the paternity list. Neal, 29, was a non-roster invitee in this year s camp with the Dodgers and appeared in three Cactus League games (one start) with Los Angeles, recording one save and posting a 7.20 ERA (4 ER/5.0 IP), while striking out four without issuing a walk. In 2017, Neal spent the majority of the season with the Oakland Athletics Triple-A Nashville affiliate, going 4-8 with a 4.82 ERA (53 ER/99.0 IP) in 21 games (16 start) and punched out 43 batters against 10 walks. He made two stints with the Athletics last year, allowing 13 runs in 14.2 innings (7.98 ERA) in six relief appearances. In two big league seasons with Oakland ( ), he has gone 2-4 with two saves, a 4.89 ERA (46 ER/84.2 IP) and a 1.16 WHIP in 30 career games (six starts). He has struck out 37 batters against just seven walks in 84.2 Major League innings, posting a 5.29 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 0.74 walks per nine innings In order to create room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated right-handed pitcher Jesus Liranzo for assignment.
