1 Miami Marlins (6-17) vs. LOS ANGELES DODGERS (11-11) RHP Trevor Richards (0-2, 6.16) vs. LHP Clayton Kershaw (1-3, 2.45) Wednesday, April 25, :35 p.m. Dodger Stadium Los Angeles, CA Game 23 Home Game 15 (7-7) Day Game 6 (2-3) TV: SNLA Radio: AM 570 (English); KTNQ 1020 AM FINISH STRONG: The Dodgers look to finish their six-game homestand (3-2) on a high note, as they will close out a three-game series against the Marlins in a late afternoon game today and look to record their first winning homestand of the year. Despite falling to Miami, 3-2, in last night s contest, Los Angeles has won seven of its last nine games since April 15 and have been victorious in four of its last six games at the Ravine. Following today s contest and the travel day to San Francisco tomorrow, the Dodgers will begin a season-high 11-game road trip on Friday against the Giants (four games), Diamondbacks (four games) and Padres in Monterrey, Mexico (three games). Following last night s contest, the Dodgers had their five game winning streak against the Marlins snapped, which was the longest winning streak against the Fish since Aug. 4-15, Los Angeles went 6-1 against Miami last season, including 3-1 at Dodger Stadium. With the win today, the Dodgers can improve to 2-0 in rubber matches this season. ATTACK FIRST: The Dodgers, who scored the first run of the game in last night s contest, lost their third game of the season when scoring first, falling to 10-3 (.769) on the year. Despite the loss, Los Angeles holds the second largest win percentage difference in the league when scoring first versus allowing the first run according to Stats LLC.: Largest Diff in Win Pct, Scoring vs. Allowing First Run Scoring Allowing Diff San Diego Padres.875 (7-1).118 (2-15).757 Los Angeles Dodgers.769 (10-3).111 (1-8).658 Texas Rangers.700 (7-3).067 (1-14).633 Oakland Athletics.786 (11-3).200 (2-8).586 San Francisco Giants.750 (9-3).182 (2-9).568 CAPTAIN KERSHAW: Dodger ace Clayton Kershaw will take the mound this late afternoon to close out the homestand, as he looks to record his second win of the season. Kershaw last pitched against Washington on Friday, allowing a season-high four runs on nine hits in 7.0 innings with four strikeouts, as he recorded his third loss of the season in an ace duel against the Nationals Max Scherzer. Despite the 1-3 record to start the season, which is his worst start since 2009, the southpaw has posted a 2.45 ERA (9 ER/33.0 IP) and has struck out 35 batters against just three walks in 33.0 innings. Kershaw has also held the opposition to a.228 average, while posting a 0.97 WHIP, which is currently tied for the 10 th lowest in the National League. Kershaw, who last faced the Marlins on Sept. 9, 2016, has posted a 5-4 record with a 2.57 ERA (19 ER/66.2 IP) in 10 career starts against Miami. The left-hander has struck out 75 career Marlins hitters against just 16 walks, while limiting batters to a.199 average. Kershaw is currently riding a threegame losing streak against the Fish (June 27, 2015-Sept. 9, 2016). Three of Kershaw s five starts this season have been during the day, as he has posted a 1-1 record with a 1.35 ERA (3 ER/20.0 IP) in those contests. He has punched out 25 batters against two walks, while holding the opposition to a.213/.234/.360 slashline. FINDING THE STRIKE ZONE: The Dodgers 3.40 ERA ranks fifth in the National League, but they are making the opposition earn it as their 61 walks are the fewest on the senior circuit. Just two teams in baseball have issued fewer free passes, as the Oakland A s have walked 52 and the Cleveland Indians have walked 46 hitters. Los Angeles also currently holds the highest strikeout-to-walk ratio in the National League with a 3.82 (233 K/61 BB) mark. The Dodgers posted the highest strikeout-to-walk ratio in the NL last season (3.50), while ranking second to the Indians (3.98) for the big league lead. The Dodgers have averaged strikeouts per nine innings, which ranks fourth in the NL, trailing just the Mets (10.23), Nationals (10.21), and Diamondbacks (10.05). MATCHUP vs. Marlins Dodgers: 3 rd, NL West (5.0 GB) Marlins: 5 th, NL East (10.0 GB) All-Time: LA leads series, (52-43 at Dodger Stadium) 2018: LA tied series, 1-1 (1-1 at Dodger Stadium) April 24 at LA: W, 2-1 W: Liberatore L: Barraclough S: Fields April 25 at LA: L, 2-3 W:Steckenrider L:Báez S:Ziegler THE START OF SOMETHING SPECIAL: On this day one year ago, Dodger All-Star first baseman and the National League s reigning Rookie of the Year, Cody Bellinger, had his contract selected by the club and made his Major League debut at San Francisco. At the time, Bellinger was rated by MLB.com as the Dodgers No. 1 prospect and rated by Baseball America as the seventh-best overall prospect in baseball. He made the start in left field against the Giants and recorded his first career hit in his fourth plate appearance of that game with an infield single. In his sophomore season, Bellinger has batted.271 with 16 runs, four doubles, one triple, three home runs and nine RBI in 22 games this year. THE MAN S GONE FISHING: In last night s contest, Dodger infielder Chase Utley drew a pinch-hit bases loaded walk in the seventh inning, for the second time this season, to put the Dodgers up 2-1 against Miami. Throughout his 16-year big league career, Utley has seen success against the Marlins, as he has posted a.278/.370/.478 slashline with 31 doubles, seven triples, 30 home runs and 128 RBI in 186 games. Among active players, Utley has played the most games, has driven in the most runs and has drew the most walks (79, T-1 st ) against the Marlins, while ranking second in home runs and third in hits (188) and runs (114). Not to go unnoticed, but Dodger outfielder Matt Kemp has also seen success against the Marlins throughout his career, posting a.296/.361/.446 slashline with 41 runs, 12 doubles, nine home runs, 29 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 70 games. Dodger leadoff man Chris Taylor has reached base safely in all nine career games against the Marlins, going 11-for-30 (.367) with four runs, three doubles, two triples, one home run and two RBI along with a OPS. Taylor, who finished last night s contest going 1-for-5, has hit safely in his last seven games overall. YAZ HANDS: Dodger catcher Yasmani Grandal, who had an off day yesterday, is off to the best start of his career and has been the club s best hitter thus far. Grandal is currently tied for fifth in the National League with a.328 batting average (22-for-67), while also ranking among the NL leaders in on-base percentage (.423, 8 th ), OPS (.975, 11 th ), and slugging percentage (.552, 13 th ). Grandal has hit safely in eight of 10 home games this season, going 12-for-34 (.353) with six runs, two doubles one home run and six RBI. His home batting average currently ranks sixth best in the National League. TRUE AMERICAN HERO: On this date, 42 years ago at Dodger Stadium, Dodger broadcaster and then Cubs outfielder Rick Monday demonstrated his love for his country by sprinting and snatching the American flag from two protestors, before they could light it on fire in the outfield. The next season, 1977, Monday began an eight-year playing career with the Dodgers and in 1993, the Santa Monica native joined the Dodger broadcast team. Monday calls every game primarily alongside Charley Steiner for the Dodger flagship radio station, AM 570 LA Sports. BUILDING FIELDS, BUILDING DREAMS: There are just five more days for fans to vote for the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) and a $50,000 field refurbishment grant towards its 50 th Dodger Dreamfield at Algin Sutton Recreation Center in South Los Angeles. LADF was chosen as one of the four finalists by Major League Baseball and Scotts Company LLC from over 350 grant applications across 315 cities in 43 states seeking refurbishments for their youth fields. Fans can vote at MLB.com/scottsfield until April 30. CHAMPIONS OF LA: Earlier today, the Dodgers were honored with the Champions of Los Angeles Award at the 57th Annual Los Angeles Headquarters Association Awards at the California Club Downtown.
