1 Atlanta Braves (16-37) at LOS ANGELES DODGERS (28-27) RHP Kenta Maeda (4-3, 3.00) vs. RHP Julio Teheran (1-5, 2.77) Friday, June 3, :10 p.m. PT Dodger Stadium Los Angeles, CA Game 56 Home Game 26 (13-12) Night Game 43 (20-22) TV: SNLA Radio: AM 570 (English)/KTNQ 1020 AM (Spanish)/AM 1540 (Korean) WELCOME HOME!: The Dodgers open a six-game homestand with the first of three games against the Braves following a sevengame road trip to New York (2-1) and Chicago (1-3). Los Angeles won two of three games in Atlanta back in April and has been victorious in five of its last six home games against the Braves dating to After the Atlanta series, the Dodgers will play host to the Rockies for a three-game series starting Monday. Tonight s Braves starter, Julio Teheran, is winless in five career starts against the Dodgers, going 0-4 with a 5.63 ERA (20 ER/32.0 IP) and allowing a.298 combined batting average to Los Angeles hitters (36-for-121). After opening the season with a 6-10 record through their first 16 games at home, the Dodgers have won four in a row and seven of their last nine in Los Angeles. With yesterday s loss, the Dodgers fell 5.5 games behind the Giants in the NL West, their first movement in the standings since May 21. Prior to yesterday, the clubs had posted identical day-by-day results over their last 10 games/11 days since May 22 with matching 7-3 records. HEY, ROY: Corey Seager has caught fire during the last month, batting.302 (35-for-116) with six doubles, seven homers and 16 RBI in 29 games since May 3. Overall, the 22-year-old leads the Dodgers in hits (59), runs (33), doubles (12), homers (9), RBI (28) and, were he to continue to lead the club in those categories, he would become just the sixth rookie to do so since 1920, when RBI became an official stat: Rookies to Lead Team in H, R, 2B, HR & RBI Since 1920 Albert Pujols, 2001 STL (won NL ROY) Tommie Agee, 1966 CWS (won AL ROY) Max Alvis, 1963 CLE Pete Ward, 1963 CWS (2nd in AL ROY) Wally Berger, 1930 BSN (NL) Source: Stats, LLC Two previous Dodger rookies have come close to accomplishing the feat: Del Bissonette in 1928 (first in hits, runs, HR and RBI; second in doubles) and Babe Herman in 1926 (first in hits, doubles, HR and RBI; second in runs). SIMPLY A-MAY-ZING: Congratulations to Clayton Kershaw on being named the National League s May Pitcher of the Month yesterday, his sixth-career monthly honor (last: July 2015)! Kershaw went 5-0 with three shutouts in six May starts and led the Majors in ERA (0.91, 5 ER/49.2 IP), strikeouts (65), innings (49.2) and WHIP (0.52), while topping the NL in opponents batting average (.145, 24-for-166). He walked only two during the month, and, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, no other pitcher in the modern era has recorded as many strikeouts (65) with as few walks over a six-start span. GETTING DEEP: By defensive efficiency, which measures turning balls in play into outs, the Dodgers are the second-best NL team, trailing only the Cubs, with a 72.5% efficiency rating, according to Baseball-Reference.com. The Dodgers have used 274 defensive shifts this year, the fifth-fewest among NL teams according to FanGraphs. Yasiel Puig ranks fourth in the Majors with 11 defensive runs saved, according to FanGraphs. START ME UP: Kenta Maeda held the Mets to just two hits in 5.0 scoreless innings as he picked up the win in his last start on Saturday at New York. The 28-year-old rookie ranks among the NL leaders in opponents batting average (.207, 6 th ) and WHIP (1.05, 11 th ) and has been especially good when pitching on five or more days rest (as he is tonight), going 3-0 with a 1.57 ERA (6 ER/34.1 IP) in those six starts. MATCHUP vs. BRAVES Dodgers: 2 nd, NL West (5.5 GA) Braves: 5 th, NL East (16.5 GB) All-Time: LA leads series, 1,178-1, ( at Dodger Stadium) 2016: LA leads series, 2-1 (0-0 at Dodger Stadium) 4/19 at ATL: L, 1-8 W: Weber L: Wood 4/20 at ATL: W, 5-3 (10) W: Blanton L: Grilli S: Jansen 4/21 at ATL: W, 2-1 (10) W: Hatcher L: Ogando S: Jansen MEN IN THE PEN: Dodger relievers had their four-game scoreless streak snapped in the eighth inning yesterday, but have been baseball s best bullpen over the last two weeks: Lowest Bullpen ERA Since May Los Angeles Dodgers 1.38 (7 ER/45.2 IP) 2. Pittsburgh Pirates Houston Astros Kansas City Royals Washington Nationals 2.57 During that stretch, Dodger relievers have posted MLBbest marks in opponents batting average (.107) and WHIP (0.61) and, overall, lead the big leagues in both categories with.196 and 1.05 marks. Overall, the pen ranks fourth in the NL with a 3.31 ERA. Individually, Kenley Jansen leads the Majors with a 0.55 WHIP and is tied for sixth with 15 saves in 17 opportunities. With 157 career saves, Jansen is just four saves shy of Eric Gagné s club record. Joe Blanton, who has tossed scoreless relief in 20 of 24 games this year, ranks fourth among big league relievers with a.132 opponents batting average. MILESTONE WATCH: Dodger infielder Chase Utley has 31 runs scored on the season, two shy of the Dodger leader, Corey Seager. Utley (994) and outfielder Carl Crawford (998) are both closing in on scoring their 1,000 th career run, a feat that has been accomplished by just 323 Major Leaguers. Somewhat surprisingly, very few players have worn the Dodger uniform when scoring No. 1,000, with the last being Devon White on May 5, Adrián González is approaching two career milestones, entering tonight s game just five home runs shy of 300 and nine doubles away from 400. Currently, there are only six active players that have reached both of those milestones: Alex Rodriguez, Adrian Beltre, Carlos Beltran, Albert Pujols, David Ortiz and Miguel Cabrera. LET S GET CLICKING: The first National League All-Star balloting update was released Wednesday and the team needs your help as only one Dodger (Adrián González, 3 rd at 1B) was among the NL vote leaders. Fans can vote for starters a total of 35 times with the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot online at Dodgers.com/vote, including a maximum of five valid ballots cast in any 24-hour period. Voting ends Thursday, June 30 at 8:59 p.m. NEXT MAN UP: When Dodger left-hander Alex Wood was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, it marked the 15 th different player placed on the DL for the Dodgers this season, which leads the Major Leagues. The Dodgers also lead all of Major League Baseball in player games missed on the DL (553) and player days on the disabled list (604). The next closest team in both of those categories is the Oakland Athletics, who had 467 player games missed and 520 player days on the DL Source: Stats, LLC. WITH HEAVY HEARTS: Lee Pfund, who pitched 15 games for the Dodgers in 1945 and later went to become an immensely successful baseball and basketball coach at Wheaton College, passed away yesterday at age 96. Pfund, the father of former Lakers coach Randy Pfund, coached Wheaton to the 1957 NCAA College Division basketball title and won 362 games from , then later was honored by the school naming its baseball stadium after him. The Dodgers best wishes go to the Pfund family.
