Tonight, Clinton hopes to start a new winning streak with left-hander Blake Holovach (6-4, 3.82) on the mound against former Frontier Leaguer, Joey Wagman (1-0, 1.29). The LumberKings and Snappers traded runs back and forth last night but Clinton s late rally came up one run short in the bottom of the ninth. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM CT at Ashford University Field. July s HR Drought Prior to the series finale vs. Quad Cities in which the LumberKings homered twice, Clinton had allowed nine home runs and had none of their own in the past five games. The LumberKings allowed five home runs in the series sweep by South Bend, and a pair in each of the first two games vs. the River Bandits. Nine home runs was the lowest single month total, and the second fewest in the league in July. Though the offense lacked for the majority of the month, the pitching staff posted a 3.77 ERA and kept the LumberKings within reach of the playoffs. O Neill Returns The solution to Clinton s low home run total from the month of July may come at the August 4 th arrival of one of Seattle s top OF prospects, Tyler O Neil. He was tied with Wisconsin s Clint Coulter with six home runs when he hit the DL. He was batting.261 with 18 RBIs in 31 games, and his OPS was the highest on the team at.803. More Pop is Back Seattle s 2012 and nd -round picks, Joe DeCarlo and Austin Wilson, arrived just a day after Tyler O Neill was called up from Everett. DeCarlo was rehabbing in the AZL momentarily before playing with the Everett AquaSox while Wilson rehabbed in the AZL as well. DeCarlo had hit.200 with 4 HR and 30 RBIs in 55 games for the LumberKings before hitting the DL. Wilson was on a tear when he hit the shelf, hitting.298 with a team-high 11 HR and 52 RBIs. The Price wasn t right Though many thought the Mariners could end up with David Price in hopes for a playoff run, the Mariners landed pieces involved in the Tampa Bay Rays trade of David Price to Detroit. Seattle sent Nick Franklin, who set the Clinton record for home runs with 23 in 2010, to Tampa Bay, and received outfielder Austin Jackson from the Tigers. The Mariners also traded RHP Stephen Kohlscheen (2011/2012 LumberKings pitcher) and outfielder Abraham Almonte to San Diego in exchange for Padres outfielder Chris Denorfia. Both Denorfia and Jackson debuted with Seattle on August 1 st. They Returned Five players who donned a LumberKings uniform at some point in 2013 found themselves on the 2014 opening day roster. They include catcher Marcus Littlewood, infielders Martin Peguero and Zach Shank, and pitchers Blake Holovach and Mark Bordonaro. Littlewood, Holovach, and Bordonaro spent their entire 2013 campaigns in Clinton. Peguero, Littlewood, and Shank are still on Clinton s current roster. Holovach was sent back to Extended Spring Training to be stretched out as a starter and is now with the Everett AquaSox. Bordonaro was promoted to High Desert in late April then after a few weeks was set to return to Clinton but declined the assignment and instead retired. Shank was promoted to High Desert on 7/1. Midwest League Debut 34 LumberKings have made their Midwest League debut. Most recently, both infielder Andy Peterson and reliever Tyler Herb debuted on July 24 th vs. West Michigan. Mariners Watch Seattle was shut out at Baltimore Sunday by the same score the LumberKings won by at Burlington, 1-0. The Mariners recorded just four base hits off of O s right-hander Chris Tillman. Newly acquired outfielders Austin Jackson and Chris Denorfia both went hitless. Hisashi Iwakuma (9-6) yielded just one run on five hits and two walks over 7.2 innings, his lone mistake coming in the first inning on his sixth pitch of the game when Nick Markakis hit a solo home run, proving to be the game-winner. The Mariners had an off-day yesterday and they ll open up an interleague series tonight at Safeco Field against the Atlanta Braves. Felix Hernandez (11-3, 1.99) gets the nod for Seattle. First pitch is set for 9:10 PM CT. All-Time Wins List as Clinton Manager 1. Jack Mull 300 (1991 Champions) 2. He was demoted to Extended Spring Training, not due to his performance as a reliever, but Seattle s desire to have him back in a starter s role. He was then designated to Everett where he pitched very well in four starts, going 0-1 with a 2.59 ERA. Holovach throws three pitches a fastball, curveball, and changeup. Last Outing: The left-handed Holovach benefitted from a high run-scoring output by his offense in his last start at Quad Cities. The Missouri Tiger product pitched five innings and allowed a season high seven runs five earned on eight hits. He failed to strike out a single batter in his sixth start for Clinton, but he left with an 8-7 lead and the LumberKings went on to win, HOLOVACH S 2014 DAY-BY-DAY With Clinton: DATE OPP DEC ERA GS CG IP H R ER HR BB SO TBF CR L /10 LC W DAY BG /21 QC W /25 CR QC WIS BUR /9 PEO W /12 BUR /16 BEL PEO W KC /28 KC /4 KC L PEO L GL W LAN ND /26 SB L QC W SEASON SPLITS & ETC. He allowed four hits and two walks but he punched out a season high eight batters and had six K s through the first two innings.
