12 IDAHO FALLS CHUKARS GAME NOTES Page 12 Coaching Staff: Manager: Omar Ramirez Omar Ramirez will be the skipper at Idaho Falls for a third season after serving as the Chukars hitting coach in The Chukars have increased their win total each season under Ramirez. The 41 wins last season were the most the team tallied since the 2009 season. Last year also snapped the Pioneer League s longest active playoff drought at 5 years. The offense was a big reason why the Chukars emerged as the best team in the league a season ago. Ramirez s unit led the Pioneer League in batting average, hits, runs, on-base percentage, and slugging in Idaho Falls also had the fewest strikeouts amongst hitters last season. In his first season as manager, the Chukars finished in a tie for third place in the South Division. The 35 wins were the most for Idaho Falls since the 2009 season. As the hitting coach, the Chukars finished second in the Pioneer League in batting average. Omar Ramirez was the hitting coach at Burlington (R) in 2009 and Burlington (A) in Ramirez, the Indians 31st round pick in 1990 out of Hill Junior College in Texas, played outfield for eight seasons in the minors with the Indians and Astros before retiring following the 2001 season. Ramirez resides in his hometown of Santiago, Dominican Republic. Hitting Coach: Damon Hollins Damon Hollins is in his fifth season with the Royals as a hitting coach, his second at Idaho Falls. Last season, Hollins helped the Chukars place first in the league in batting average, runs, hits, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. He began his coaching career in the same capacity at Burlington (R) in 2010, then coached at Kane County in 2011 and Wilmington in Hollins, a fourth-round selection by Atlanta in 1992, played in the Majors for the Braves (1998, 2004), Dudgers (1998) and Rays ( ). He spent the 2007 season in Japan with the Yomiuri Giants before playing for the Omaha Royals in Hollins resides in Litchfield Park, Ariz., with his wife, Patrice. They have three children, Tahari, Ameerah, and Averi. Pitching Coach: Mark Davis Mark Davis joins Idaho Falls in 2014, his ninth year in the Royals organization. Athletic Trainer: Robbie Oates Robbie Oates begins his second professional season with the Royals as the trainer in Idaho Falls. Oates was instrumental in player health, as well as travel operations last season. Prior to that Oates spent time as an athletic training intern with the Major League club in Kansas City. Oates earned his bachelor of science in athletic training from Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio. He was born and raised in Mansfield, Ohio, where he lives today. Strength & Conditioning Coach: Jarret Abell Jarret Abell joins the Royals Organization for his first year as Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coach, bringing over 3,500 hours of experience with professional and Division I athletes. He received his Masters degree in Exercise Science from Wichita State University in 2013, where he worked with six Olympic sport teams including basketball. Shortly after that, he worked with the TCU football team for offseason strength and conditioning before joining Athlete s Performance in Gulf Breeze, Fla., as a performance specialist. Jarret played collegiate football for Bethel University and now resides in Kansas.
