Tacoma broke open a 7-7 tie with two runs on two hits in the top of the 12th inning. Justin Smoak drove in the go-ahead run with a one-out RBI double, and catcher John Hicks added a necessary insurance run after lining an RBI single to right field one out later. The Rainiers had earlier interrupted a 6-6 tie after Stefen Romero led off the ninth with a solo home run, but the New Orleans knotted the score again after Enrique Hernandez hit a one-run home run in the bottom of the frame. He ended the night leading the Rainiers lineup with a 3-for-5 outing. Right-hander Blake Beavan (4-1) earned the win after allowing just one hit and striking out two in 2.1 innings. Matt Palmer surrendered one run on one hit in the bottom of the 12th on the way to tallying his second save this season. Starter Forrest Snow gave up four runs on seven hits and struck out six in 5.0 innings and did not garner a decision. TAI-JUANNA REPEAT: Taijuan Walker takes the hill for the Rainiers tonight in his 12th start of the season for the Rainiers and is coming off a career-high 13 strikeouts in his last start. The Louisiana native pitched seven innings on August 10 against Albuquerque, allowing only one run, one hit and surrendering one walk in his fifth win of the season. Walker - who turned 22 on Wednesday - has won four of his last six starts with the Rainiers. TOSSED BUT NOT LOST: Todd Coffey s ninth inning ejection marked the 13th time this season that a Rainiers player or a member of the staff has been tossed. The Rainiers are 8-4 in games where they have had someone ejected this season. Last season s team had a total of five ejections all year. SERIES LY?: A Tacoma win tonight would seal a series victory the Rainiers who have not lost a series since they dropped three of four at El Paso, June The Rainiers have not dropped a series at Zephyr Field since they suffered a four game sweep in RED HOT ROMERO: Stefen Romero notched a double, a home run and a single last night to go along with three runs scored and an RBI. In 11 games in the month of August, Romero is his hitting.367 (18x49) with eight runs scored, nine extra-base hits and 15 RBI. His.796 slugging percentage this month ranks second in the PCL and third in all of Triple-A baseball. NOT FIELDING QUESTIONS: Last night s game was the fifth consecutive game in which Rainiers fielders did not commit an error. The Rainiers are (.528) this season when they do not record an error. They were (.598) in games when they were errorless last season. The Rainiers have committed the third-most errors (111) this season and have the third-lowest team fielding percentage (.976). ROLLING TO ROUND ROCK: After tonight s game, the Rainiers head to Texas for a four-game series against the Round Rock Express.
