Tacoma jumped on the scoreboard early with seven runs in the first inning, chasing starter Brett Oberholtzer from the game after only 2.2 innings. The Tacoma offense struck for six more runs in the sixth inning. Chris Taylor, Stefen Romero, Jesus Montero, Franklin Gutierrez, and John Hicks all notched multiple hits. Starting pitcher Jordan Pries improved to 2-1 with 5.1 innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits. HEADS UP, 7 UP: Tacoma s seven-run performance in the first inning of last night s game is the most runs scored in the opening frame since May 13, 2007, when the Rainiers plated nine runs in the top of the first on the road at Albuquerque. Since then, they have notched five six-run first innings. SAVE SOME RUNS: The Rainiers 13 run outburst last night was the most runs scored at home since a victory over Fresno on August 9 of Tacoma scored 10 or more runs in 13 games last year and combined to go 3-10 following those games while scoring an average of only 2.4 runs - they were shut out in three of those losses. SEND IT: Outfielder Julio Morban s three-run dinger in the sixth inning last night was his first career Triple-A home run - it was his first home run since July 5, The seventh year professional now has 35 career minor league home runs. Morban has hit home runs in consecutive games once in his career, when he went deep in three-straight games between June 1-3 of GERMA-NO: Tacoma starting pitcher Justin Germano makes his first start of the season tonight - it is his first start since August 28, He has allowed only seven base runners through 14.2 innings pitched this year, giving him 4.30 baserunners per nine innings pitched, the third lowest in the league. His opponent batting average of.098 (5x51) is the fifth lowest among Pacific Coast League qualified relievers. CONNECTIONS: Rainiers manager Pat Listach played for the Houston Astros, the parent team of the Fresno Grizzlies, for 52 games during the 1997 season. He hit.182 (24x132) with two doubles, two triples, and six RBI. Listach also served as the first base coach for the Houston Astros during the 2014 season. QUIK MARTE: Rainiers infielder Ketel Marte leads the Rainiers and is second in the Pacific Coast League with eight stolen bases, and has recorded one stolen base in five of the last seven games. Marte has 88 career stolen bases and swipes bags at a 72% success rate. He is also the only Tacoma player and one of only nine players in the league to have seen time in each of his club s first 21 games this year. The Mariners No. 4 prospect is hitting.310 (27x87) with three doubles and seven RBI. His 87 at-bats are the fourth most in the league.
