1 TACOMA RAINIERS GAME DAY INFORMATION CHENEY STADIUM 2502 S. TYLER ST. TACOMA, WA PH: (253) FAX: (253) Friday, July 11, at 7:05 P.M. Tacoma Rainiers (44-49) at Fresno Grizzlies (46-49) Game 94 (44-49) Cheney Stadium, Tacoma, WA RHP Erasmo Ramirez (1-4, 4.54) vs. LHP Mike Kickham (6-5, 3.61) Home Game 47 (22-24) ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The 20 runs that the Rainiers scored in last night s 20-2 victory was the most they have scored all season and the most since they scored 25 last seaon on May 29 at Colorado Springs. Every Tacoma player collected at least one hit to combine for a total of 20 hits as a team, matching a season-high set on June 28 at El Paso (GM. 2). The Rainiers hit four home runs as a team, equaling a season-high which they set two previous times. PITCHING IN: Leury Bonilla entered last night s game in the bottom of the ninth as a relief pitcher. This marked the sixth time (7.1IP) his career that Bonilla has taken the mound to pitch. Bonilla walked four batters and surrendered two runs. This raised Bonilla s career ERA from 7.36 to (8ERx7.1IP). Bonilla was relieved by catcher Humberto Quintero who was making his first career appearance as pitcher. Quintero induced a double-play, followed by a walk, and a pop-up to end the game. Quintero s scoreless inning required only 11 pitches. TY-REFFIC: Ty Kelly finished last night with two home runs, four runs scored and seven RBI. One of Kelly s home runs was a grand slam the second by a Rainiers player this season. Kelly now has a career-high 12 home runs this season. In his last five games, Kelly is hitting.391 (9x23) with three extrabase hits and 11 RBI. He ranks fifth in the PCL in RBI (58) and runs scored (59), and third in walks (58). CAR TALK: Reliever Carson Smith pitched two scoreless innings last night without allowing a hit and has now allowed only one earned run and struck out 11 batters in his last ten appearances (12.2 IP). MONTERO MASHING: Jesus Montero matched a Rainiers season-high with five hits last night, while collecting two doubles, two RBI and two runs. In ten games since returning from his stint with the Mariners, Montero is hitting.450 (18x40) with seven extra-base hits and 13 RBI. JUST FOR HICKS: John Hicks hit the first home run of his Triple-A career last night, a solo shot in the ninth inning. The catcher finished the night with two hits and three runs in his Triple-A debut. ALPHA-ROMERO: Stefen Romero had two singles and two RBI in last night s win and now has hit safely in each of his last four games. The outfielder is hitting.379 (11x29) with three home runs, eight RBI and six runs in his last six games. FIELDING IMPROVEMENTS: The Rainiers did not record an error last night for the third consecutive game and have made only four errors through ten games in the month of July. In the first ten games in the month of June, Tacoma committed 11 errors. The Rainiers have the lowest fielding percentage in the league (.974) and have committed the second most errors (90). SMOAKING HOT: Justin Smoak had two hits, two runs and an RBI in last night s win and has now recorded multiple hits and RBI in each of his last four games. Over that span, Smoak is hitting.526 (10x19) with three extra-base hits and eight RBI. During that time, the infielder has raised his season average from.250 to.284. ALMONTE JOY: Leadoff hitter Abraham Almonte collected two hits and scored three times last night, and now has scored 10 runs in his last 13 games. Dating back to June 28, Almonte is hitting.340 (16x47) with six extra-base hits and nine RBI. WE RE ALL STARS: The PCL office last Thursday announced that Rainiers infielders Chris Taylor (starter), Nick Franklin and Gabriel Noriega, and pitcher Logan Kensing will represent the PCL in the 2014 Triple-A All-Star Game on July 16 in Durham, North Carolina. This marks the first season since 2001 the Rainiers will feature four players in the annual contest that pits the PCL s best against standouts from the International League. In 2001, the Rainiers sent shortstop Ramon Vazquez, designated hitter Juan Thomas, pitcher Denny Stark and first baseman Todd Betts to the All-Star Game in Indianapolis. Franklin was previously selected as a Midwest League (2010) and Southern League (2012) All-Star Games in Taylor was a California League All-Star last season with High Desert. This is the first All-Star Game selections for both Noriega and Kensing.
