1 TACOMA RAINIERS GAME DAY INFORMATION CHENEY STADIUM 2502 S. TYLER ST. TACOMA, WA PH: (253) FAX: (253) Tuesday, May 27, at 6:05 P.M. Tacoma Rainiers (21-28) vs. Salt Lake Bees (17-35) Game 50 (21-28) Cheney Stadium, Tacoma, WA RHP Jordan Pries (3-2, 1.80) vs. RHP Jarret Grube (2-2, 3.95) Home Game 26 (11-14) YESTERDAY S NEWS: The Rainiers were limited to a season-low two hits in a 3-1 loss to El Paso on Monday. Ty Kelly notched Tacoma s first hit after doubling in the bottom of the fourth inning, and he went on to score the team s lone run thanks to a throwing error committed by shortstop Jace Peterson later in the frame. Jesus Montero tallied the Rainiers only other hit when he led off the seventh with an infield single. Brooks Conrad gave El Paso a 2-0 lead after hitting a two-run home run in the third inning. Catcher Rocky Gale stretched El Paso s 2-1 edge back to two runs when he delivered an RBI single in the ninth. Starter Andrew Carraway was dealt the loss after surrendering two runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings. The right-hander struck out five batters and walked two. Reliever Lucas Luetge allowed one run on three hits in 2.0 innings of work out of the bullpen. THE JORDAN RULES: Jordan Pries takes his eighth turn in the rotation tonight carrying the third best ERA in the PCL (1.80/8ERx40.IP). The righthander has also limited opposing hitters to a.183 batting average (26x14) the second-lowest in the league. This will be Pries the third start at Cheney Stadium, where he carries a 0.75 ERA (1ERx12.0IP). A FAMILIAR FACE: Former Rainiers pitcher Jarrett Grube will start for Salt Lake tonight. Grube spent parts of three seasons with the Rainiers from 2010 through The right-hander has a 6.53 ERA (37ERx50.0IP) in 15 appearances at Cheney. IT S A BREEZE: Yesterday s 2-hour, 14-minute sprint between the Rainiers and Chihuahuas stands as Tacoma s shortest nine-inning game since last year on July 21 at Fresno. Just the day before, the Rainiers and Chihauhuas played a three-hour, 59 minute marathon that was Tacoma s longest nineinning game since June 17, 2012, at Sacramento. AVERY STEPS HE TAKES: Xavier Avery leads the league with 17 stolen bases this season. The Rainiers are tied for the league lead with 49 stolen bases, with Avery accounting for just over 34 percent of the team s thefts. HAMMER HOME: Tonight s contest marks the tenth game of a 13-game, 12-day homestand for the Rainiers - the team s longest of the year. The stretch at home accounts for 18 percent of the Rainiers 72 scheduled games at Cheney this season, and once the homestand concludes on May 30, 40 percent of the club s home dates will have been played. Before the today s series-opener against Salt Lake, the Rainiers hosted Reno (1-3) and El Paso (1-4). LONG-FORM PROS: Tacoma has given up ten home runs over the team s last eight games. Homers have accounted for 20 of the 49 runs (40.8%) the Rainiers have surrendered over that period. Salt Lake enters tonights game having surrendered 61 home runs - the most in the league. NON-OFFENSIVE: Tacoma has been limited to five hits or fewer in five of their last eight games - something that had occurred just twice over the team s first 41 games played this season. Tacoma has lost seven of those eight games and has hit.207 (49x236) as a team over that span. However, the Rainiers still hold on to the lead the league in hitting (.290/469x1620). SOMETHING S GOTTA GIVE: Salt Lake s.327 (17-35) winning-percentage and Tacoma s.429 (21-28) are the lowest two-winning percentages in the league. The Bees are 6-19 in the month of May, while the Rainiers have posted a 8-17 record for the month. Salt Lake has amassed the highest team ERA in the PCL (6.23/314ERx453.2IP) and Tacoma has the thirdhighest ERA (5.15/238ERx415.2IP). The Rainiers won three-of-four earlier this year (April 15-18) in Tacoma. LOGAN GOING LOW: Reliever Logan Kensing has on allowed two-earned runs in his last ten innings pitched (5 G). The right-hander has lowered his ERA to a team-best 1.50 (5ERx30.IP) for the season. STRAINED RELATIONSHIPS: Infielder Logan Morrison and pitcher James Paxton are currently with the Rainiers as part of Major League rehab assignments. Paxton was placed on the Mariners 15-day DL with a left latissimus dorsi muscle strain on April 9, and Morrison went on Seattle s 15-day DL with a strained right hamstring on April 15. RUFFIN READY: After surrendering a season-high seven runs on May 1 at Sacramento, Chance Ruffin has posted a 1.68 ERA (3ERx16.1IP) over his last five appearances (1 GS).
