ELIAS SAYS: Philadelphia overcame a 4-0 deficit yesterday to beat the Giants, 5-4, in 12 innings The Phillies had lost each of their last 41 games when trailing by four or more runs, which was the thirdlongest current streak of its kind entering Wednesday's action, trailing only the Atlanta Braves (64 straight) and Minnesota Twins (52)... The Phillies were just 2-99 when trailing by four or more runs since the start of the 2015 season, which was the worst record for any ML team over that span. TRANSACTIONS: Following last night s game, the Phillies optioned RHP Phil Klein back to Lehigh Valley This morning, LHP Elvis Araujo was recalled from LV. WHO WILL BE MR. 2000?: On Wednesday night, right-handers Phil Klein and Michael Mariot both made their Phillies debuts, making them the 1,998 th and 1,999 th players, respectively, to appear in a game for the Phillies in franchise history That, of course, raises the question -- who was the first?? Well, the first-ever Phillies game was a home game in 1883, and 20-year-old starter John Coleman threw the very first pitch Left-fielder William (Blondie) Purcell got the Phillies first hit and scored the first run He singled in the 1 st inning and scored on a ground out... The debate rages on. BROOM BALL: After securing their first series win versus San Francisco last night since 2013 at AT&T Park and first at Citizens Bank Park since 2010, the Phillies are looking to complete their first series sweep over the Giants since May 5-7, 2006 in Philadelphia A three-game winning streak would also be their longest vs SF since August 4-6, 2011 (won first 3 games of a 4-game series) Overall, the Phillies are aiming for their fifth series sweep of the 2016 season and third at home (last: 7/4-6 vs ATL). WE RE GOING GOING, BACK BACK, TO CALI CALI: Following today s afternoon tilt against the San Francisco Giants, the Phillies will hop on a flight to San Diego, where they will open up a six-game California road trip on Friday They will play three at Petco Park before heading up to Los Angeles to play another three-game set against the Dodgers This trip will conclude Philadelphia s 2016 west coast road schedule Their remaining 19 road games will be played on this side of the Mississippi (2 at CWS, 17 vs the NL East) So far, the Phillies have gone 11-9 in 20 games against the NL West, which is their best record against any division this season Since the beginning of the 2008 season, the Phillies have gone (.578) in 282 games versus NL West opponents, which is the 2 nd -best winning percentage among all ML teams over that stretch (min. 100 G), trailing only the St. Louis Cardinals (.579). BASH BROTHERS: Yesterday versus Bowie, Reading (AA) slugger Dylan Cozens had the best game of his young career, going 4-for-5 with a triple, three home runs, seven RBI and a stolen base in a 13-0 rout of the Baysox Cozens is now batting.282 on the year with 31 2B, 2 3B, 30 HR, 96 RBI, 87 R and 18 SB He leads the Eastern League in slugging % (.597), OPS (.962) & total bases (237) and is T-1 st in RBI and 2 nd in HR Rhys Hoskins also hit his 31 st HR of the season yesterday for Reading and collected his 96 th RBI, giving them the most HR (61) and RBI (192) for a pair of teammates in all of professional baseball.
