1 LOS ANGELES DODGERS (66-52) vs. PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (56-64) Wednesday, August 17, 2016 Citizens Bank Park 7:05 p.m. EDT Game 121; Home 59 LHP Scott Kazmir (9-6, 4.44) vs. RHP Jake Thompson (1-1, 8.68) YESTERDAY S ACTION: The Phillies lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 15-5, at Citizens Bank Park Starter Vince Velasquez (L, 8-5) allowed 5 ER on 7 hits in 5.2 innings with 1 walk and 10 strikeouts Cameron Rupp gave the Phillies an early 1-0 lead in the 2 nd inning with a solo HR off Kenta Maeda Velasquez cruised through the first 4.0 innings, allowing only 2 singles while striking out 7 strikeouts, but he ran into trouble in the 5 th Howie Kendrick blasted a 2-run homer to center in the frame before Chase Utley, in his first game back at Citizens Bank Park as a member of the Dodgers, hit a 2-out solo HR to make it 3-1 Los Angeles Yasmani Grandal added an opposite field, 2-run homer in the 6 th inning to push the lead to four Cesar Hernandez slugged a solo HR in the bottom of the 6 th But the Dodgers broke the game wide open in the 7 th inning, scoring 8 runs on 4 hits, including a 2-out grand slam by Utley The 15 runs were a season-high for the Dodgers and the most allowed by the Phillies in ELIAS SAYS: Chase Utley, who hit 233 home runs in his career for the Phillies, hit two homers (solo shot and a grand slam) on Tuesday for the Dodgers in Philadelphia in his first game back at Citizens Bank Park Utley is the second player in Major League history to hit 200 or more HR s with a team and then homer twice in his first road game against that team The first to do so was Frank Thomas as a member of the Athletics on May 22, 2006 at U.S. Cellular Field against the White Sox Thomas, who hit 448 home runs with the Sox, hit two solo homers off Jon Garland in that game in TURN BACK THE CLOCK: On Tuesday night, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard homered in the same game for the 52 nd time in their careers and for the first time since April 13, 2004 vs MIA Utley, whose first career hit was a grand slam on April 24, 2003 vs COL at Veterans Stadium (3 rd inn off Aaron Cook), went 2-for-4 with two home runs, including his seventh career grand slam It was his first slam at Citizens Bank Park since June 1, 2005 vs SF (LaTroy Hawkins) and his first multi-home run game here since July 23, 2011 vs SD (23 rd of his career). TRANSACTIONS: Earlier today, the Phillies transferred RHP Aaron Nola (right elbow inflammation) to the 60-day DL, effectively ending his 2016 season LHP Elvis Araujo, who faced seven batters and allowed 6 ER last night, was optioned to Lehigh Valley (AAA), and RHP Frank Herrmann had his contract purchased from LV In 27 relief appearances with the IronPigs this season, Herrmann is 6-1 with a 1.72 ERA (6 ER, 31.1 IP), 0.96 WHIP (24 H, 6 BB) and 31 strikeouts He has pitched in 95 Major League games ( ) in his career, going 4-1 with a 4.26 ERA When Herrmann made his Major League debut with the Indians in 2010, he became just the 16 th player ever to reach the majors from Harvard University and first since Jeff Musselman in 1990 Herrmann earned an economics degree from Harvard in 2006 He will wear #53 for the Phillies.
