TONIGHT S PITCHERS: RHP Jake Thompson -- see page 7 for info JT, who makes his 2nd straight OD start vs. PAW: 1-1, 5.17 in 3 GS (15.2 IP, 9 ER) With a win, JT will set a LHV franchise record winning 9 straight decisions (tied w/ Tyler Cloyd) & add to his record 5-start win streak RHP Shawn Haviland -- who made six starts for PAW in 2015 (1-5, 4.17) -- is a 6-2, 200-pound, 31-year-old who was signed by BOS as a minor league free agent on Jan. 4, He was originally drafted by OAK in the 33rd round of 2008 out of Harvard University -- where he earned a degree in government studies and was named 2006 Ivy League Pitcher of the Year... In 2016, the Middletown, Conn., native began the season with the independent New Britain Bees, going 3-4, 3.34 ERA in 22 G, 13 GS. He was then signed by CLE to a minor league contract on Aug. 5 and finished his season with Columbus (2-2, 3.40 in 7 GS)... LHV: 0.2 IP, 4 ER (Bogusevic GS) FOR STARTERS...: Perhaps the strength of the Pigs roster is the starting pitching, as LHV returns the 2016 IL Pitcher of the Year, RHP Jake Thompson (11-5, 2.50 in AAA), and the MiLB wins leader, RHP Ben Lively (18-5, 2.69 in AA/AAA). Thompson, who led the IL in ERA (2.50) while finishing tied for first in wins (11), won his final eight decisions before promotion (8-0, 1.21 in 11 GS). Lively, who led the IL in WHIP (0.93) and lowest OBA (.196), also finished tied first in wins (11) while ranking second in ERA (3.06). He became the first MiLB pitcher to earn 18 wins since 2008 (Jhoulys Chacin, 18-3) and the first Phillies farmhand since 1995 (Rich Hunter, 19-2)... The last time two Phillies minor leaguers each hit 35 HR or more in a season was in 1971 (Greg Luzinski and Mike Anderson, 36 each). They also became the first teammates in MiLB history to hit least 35 HR and 115 RBI (no other teammates even posted 25 HR and 75 RBI). Cozens 40 HR were the most by an Eastern League player since 1981 (Ron Kittle, 40). Since 1963, Ryan Howard is the only Phillies farmhand with a higher total (46 in 2004) and Cozens mark was the most in MiLB since 2014 (Kris Bryant, 43 and Joey Gallo, 42).
