1 2015 IMPACTS - SUMITS Conference Programme Active liveability for health and environmental benefits Copenhagen March 2015 With the support of the Citizens Programme of the European Union 2015 IMPACTS - SUMITS Copenhagen 1
2 Information Management Policies Assessment for City Transportation Systems (IMPACTS) IMPACTS is an international network of European, North American and Latin American cities established as a forum for exchanging information about urban mobility and transportation policies. The diverse cities recognise that they share similar problems, and recognise the value in sharing information as they work toward their common vision of sustainable transportation solutions. IMPACTS is a federation of three organizations: IMPACTS Europe IMPACTS Europe is an association registered in France with its Secretariat located in the offi ces of Loxley Consultancy in the UK. The network brings together political decision makers from Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva, Göteborg, London, Lisbon, Paris, Rome, Tallinn and Vienna. IMPACTS North America IMPACTS North America was created in 1996 on the initiative of NACTO, the National Association of City Transportation Officials. The cities are typically represented by high-ranking transportation officials, who work directly with their Mayors and are responsible for proposing and implementing mobility strategies. IMPACTS America Latina IMPACTS America Latina was formed in The first conference was held in Quito. IMPACTS Europe through its member cities of Barcelona and Geneva provide assistance, and further collaboration between the European and Latin American cities is planned IMPACTS - SUMITS Copenhagen
3 Welcome to Copenhagen It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 18th annual European IMPACTS Conference. This year s conference theme is Active livability for health and environmental benefits. As always we invite delegates to join us in an informal debate about the issues that affect our cities. The discussions will revolve around topics relating to sustainable and active mobility such as walking, cycling and public transport and the environmental and health benefits of green mobility. As Mayor for Technical and Environmental Affairs in Copenhagen I am particularly pleased with this year s theme. In Copenhagen we are determined to work continuously on new and innovative ways to improve cycling. We do this because it not only benefits the individual, but also benefits our society as a whole. Reducing air pollution and providing possibilities for active transport improves health and livability, contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions and help to create a green city. Copenhagen is already a city of cyclists and we actively work on improving the capacity of our bicycle lanes to make room for even more bikes and to increase traffic safety. Collaboration between the European cities in regards to mobility is very important to us. By exchanging knowledge, ideas and experiences we can inspire each other to create the best solutions to the challenges our cities face in the development of urban mobility and transportation. I welcome you all to Copenhagen this March and I hope you will have an inspiring and exciting conference as well as a pleasant stay in Copenhagen. Morten Kabell Mayor for Technical and Environmental Affairs The City of Copenhagen Contacts: Ian Johnson ij@loxleyconsultancy. com Conference Registration & Help Desk The registration desk staffed throughout the conference is located next to the conference room. It will open from 08:30 on Thursday 26th March The conference will be conducted in English only.
