Active travel measures in Dresden WALKING Project Neighbourhood Walking Tours for Elderly People in urban districts with special needs Aims: promote physical activity for elderly persons participative development of neighbo urhood walking tours promote social inclusion improve the image of the district Results are positive: physical and mental activity (cheap!) social integration with education/knowledge transferable to other target groups and urban districts citizens give advices for urban planning 25

Active travel measures in Dresden WALKING European Project Walking people It is promotion of physical activity 01/ /2014 never too late to start Florence, Madrid, Nova Gorica and scientific partners from Pisa and Reims the University of Dresden/ Institute for Diabetes Prevention exhibition company a regional sports association City advertising company Municipality of Dresden the Office for Sports Management the Office for Public Health (WHO-Project Healthy Cities ) the Office for Green and Waste Management the Urban Planning Office some more partners like stakeholders at the local level Objectives: 1. to improve the health status and to prevent chronic diseases 2. to motivate citizens to do 10,000 steps per day 3. to start a competition: Who has made the most steps? 4. to establish intra-urban routes target group: inhabitants at the age of over 35 years 26

Active travel measures in Dresden WALKING European Project Walking people It is never too late to start promotion of physical activity 3 walking-paths with a total length of mi in. 25 kilometres plans for 7! for nordic walking, walking and running focus: districts with special social needs integrating citizens - world café smartphone application with route information start an advertising campaign support by professionals, sports clubs with walking/running programmes for special target groups (e.g. persons with diabetes type II, elderly people) 27
