1 Road Improvement Consultations Huntingdon Road General Summary: About You In total, 828 people responded to this consultation. 33.1% indicated they were a resident of Girton. 18.6% stated they were a resident of Castle ward, and 15.2% stated they lived on Huntingdon Road. The majority of those responding to the survey listed themselves as being employed/self employed 63.9%. A higher percentage of Castle ward respondents indicated they were retired than for all respondents (33.3% as compared to 21.6%), and for Girton residents slightly more recorded themselves as being in education (18.6% as compared to 11.8% overall). Considering age, more respondents indicated they were aged between years than for any other range (44.2%). In keeping with the higher number of respondents being in education in Girton, a higher number were aged under 24 (15.3% as compared to 8.4%), and for Castle ward, more were aged over 65 years (35.1% as compared to 21.5% overall). Respondent use of Huntingdon Road Respondents were asked how they used Huntingdon Road as a pedestrian, cyclist, bus passenger or motorist. Multiple responses were allowed. More than three quarters of respondents indicated they ised the road as a cyclist, as the following chart outlines: Road use Percentage of respondents Pedestrian 57.3% Cyclist 77.8% Bus passenger 44.3% Motorist 73.2% This question was then brought into focus, with respondents being asked to identify which one of the four options was their most common road use. Overall, 55.4% of respondents indicated they use Huntingdon Road most often as a cyclist, with 30.3% indicated they more commonly use the road as a motorist. This was a similar picture for this indicating they were from Girton. For Castle ward the breakdown was slightly different, with 20.7% of respondents indicated they used the road most as a pedestrian. This was compared to 7.4% of all respondents. When asked whether they saw a need for improvements on Huntingdon Road, 74.5% agreed that there was, with 25.5% stating there was not. For Castle ward residents this agreement was slightly reduced (67.4%), whilst for Girton residents the percentage was fairly similar 72.3%.

2 Proposed cycle lane changes Respondents were then asked to review three options for cycle lane changes. This was a mandatory question so all 828 respondents completed it. These were: Option 1: A segregated cycle lane Option 2: A raised cycle lane Option 3: A mix of a segregated and raises cycle lane None of these Overall, views were fairly equally balanced. Option 1 cycle lane segregation was slightly more popular, as shown in the following table: Respondent option Percentage of respondents Option % Option % Option % None of the above 25.2% When looking at only those who agreed there was a need for improvements, the percentage who selected option one increased to 41.1%, whilst the number feeling none of the options given would suit decreased to 10.8%. An examination of the option selection by location demonstrated some difference between local option on the proposed alterations as compared to those further away. For those living on Huntingdon Road and for those within Castle ward, a higher percentage felt that none of the options were viable. Girton residents were also less in favour, but a slightly higher percentage did selection option 1 as shown in the table below. Residents from Cambridge City in general, and those further afield, were in much more favour of one of the options being taken forwards as opposed to not. Respondent option Option 1 Option 2 Option 3 None of the above Huntingdon Road 16.7% 20.6% 23.0% 39.7% Girton 30.4% 21.2% 21.2% 27.1% Castle ward 22.1% 24.7% 21.4% 31.8% Cambridge City resident 49.0% 13.5% 27.1% 10.3% Resident elsewhere (Cambridgeshire or beyond) 34.4% 22.4% 25.6% 17.6% Examining this by the question asking respondents to list ways they made use of Huntingdon Road (multiple choice), general opinion does still lean towards none of the options being viable. The following table shows the breakdown. Respondent road use Option 1 Option 2 Option 3 None of the above Pedestrian 24.9% 22.6% 22.4% 30.0% Cyclist 35.5% 18.0% 26.3% 20.2% Bus passenger 23.4% 22.3% 22.6% 31.6% Motorist 27.1% 22.1% 20.5% 30.2% Proposed bus stop changes

3 Respondents were then advised about proposed bus stop changes, and asked whether they supported the new layout at bus stops. Again this was a mandatory question so all 828 respondents completed it. The majority of people voted in favour of the proposed changes (59.5%), with 28.3% disagreeing and 12.2% being undecided. It should be noted these figures are very similar to the response breakdown for the sister survey for Hills Road. Examination by respondent location again the disparity between local and non local views is apparent, with much higher percentages of non local respondents being in support of the proposed bus stop changes. Respondent option Yes No Don t know Huntingdon Road 41.3% 44.4% 14.3% Girton 57.3% 32.1% 10.6% Castle ward 49.4% 31.8% 18.8% Cambridge City resident 82.6% 11.6% 5.8% Resident elsewhere (Cambridgeshire or beyond) 64.8% 21.6% 13.6% Examining this by the question asking respondents to list ways they made use of Huntingdon Road (multiple choice), preferences are still for the most part the same, with the majority in all groups being in support of the changes. Respondent road use Yes No Don t know Pedestrian 53.0% 33.3% 13.7% Cyclist 66.6% 22.0% 11.3% Bus passenger 50.4% 37.9% 11.7% Motorist 53.5% 32.8% 13.7%
