3 211 1 st Semi-Annual CRIME REPORT SUMMARY There were 113 more Part I Crimes reported in the first six months of 211 compared to 21. This equates to a 2% increase of Part I Crimes reported to the Manatee County Sheriff s Office. Part I Index crimes include both violent (Murder, Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault) and non-violent crime categories (Burglary, Larceny, and Auto Theft). Violent crimes were up by 28 occurrences during this period compared to 21. This represents a 3.8% increase in violent crimes. There were two homicides reported in this period. One incident is still under investigation and may be reclassified in the future. During the same reporting period of 21, two homicides were reported. Forced Sex Offenses increased 14.1% over the same period last year with 1 more offenses being reported. It was discovered by the Audit Unit in Records that several offenses were classified incorrectly and were changed from non-reportable nonforced sex offenses to reportable Forcible Sex Offenses pursuant to UCR requirement. The reclassification may account for the higher increase of this offense count. Robbery also declined, by 1.2% overall in the first six months of 21. While Residential Robbery was down 29%, Gas Station, Convenience Store, and Bank sites experienced increases; up by 1, 9, and 1 offense respectively. The first quarter also experienced increases in gas station and convenience store locations. Arrests have been made in these offenses. Aggravated Assault offenses increased by 3.9% (twenty offenses); the use of cutting instruments or other dangerous weapons during the offense aggravated assault increased, 11% and 1% respectively. Statistics indicate a trend downward for aggravated assault. Non-violent crimes significantly increased by 85 offenses. This equates to a 1.7% escalation of non-violent crime reported January through June 211. Reported burglary offenses continue to drop, down by 4.6%; the value stolen declined by 1% in Residential Burglary and 5% in Non-Residential Burglary. Larceny offenses, including auto burglaries, increased by 4% (152 more offenses) in 211 compared to 21. Auto Burglaries increased 6% during this period (8 more reported) over the same period last year. There were 7 fewer auto thefts reported this first quarter compared to 21, a 4% drop. iii 8/22/211 Analytical & Strategic Planning Unit/cga
