2 BACKGROUND OF EVENT: A FUNDRAISER FOR THE ROBBIE MCGARTLAND/ SAMANTHA LIPKA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Taste in Ferguson fundraiser event was created by the McGartland and the Lipka Families in 2013 to honor the memories of Robbie and Samantha. We saw that by invessng in the lives of young children and of our youth through educasonal scholarships, the dreams and passions of Robbie and Sam consnue to live on. Since our beginning the love and support from so many people and organizasons have been overwhelming. Our families consnue to be blessed by Robbie and Sam in different ways. Robert W. McGartland tragically died in January of 2012; a devastasng shock to all of us who knew and loved him. Robbie lived all 20 years of his life here in Ferguson. He had a love for life and could light up a room with his laughter. Robbie also had a special giy with children. He used that giy in many ways, by teaching swim lessons, mentoring younger Boy Scouts in his troop, and witnessing his faith to grade school and high school students. Our family wants to keep his memory alive in a special way by providing scholarships to students of Blessed Teresa of CalcuZa School. Samantha Christeen Lipka passed away at the age of 17 as a passenger in a car accident. In honor of her dream of going to college, her parents, John and Linda Lipka, set up a scholarship fund for high school seniors in the Ferguson- Florissant School District, as well as North County area students who had a connecson to the Lipka Family. This scholarship fund was started in 2008, and has given over $100,000 in scholarships to date. 3 A FUNDRAISER FOR THE ROBBIE MCGARTLAND/ SAMANTHA LIPKA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND DETAILS: THE EVENT: We are back and happy to announce the 4 th Annual The Taste In Ferguson community fundraiser event happening again in downtown Ferguson on Sunday September 11, Over 900 people apended last year's event enjoying an asernoon of delicious food tashng, beer and wine sampling, local musicians, food demonstrahons by award winning and nahonally known chefs based in St. Louis and a fun filled children s area. There will be cooking demonstratons and kid's actvites once again this year. Last year our celebrity Master of Ceremonies was Charlie Brennan from KMOX and this year we are pleased to announce that St. Louis s own SMASH from KSHE fame will be our celebrity MC. We are also pleased to announce that KSDK/NBC s anchor; ChrisHna Coleman will be returning as our MC for the Chef s Food DemonstraHon area. In Honor of the date, 9-11 and our first responders, the organizers of THE TASTE IN FERGUSON will open the event with a Color Guard from the Boys Scouts of America, a singing of the NaHonal Anthem by Kelli Hill- Lowe and a presentahon of our nahon s flag. We will have a separate area solely dedicated to feeding FIRST RESPONDERS from the north county area throughout the event. Our diverse group of food vendors from Ferguson and surrounding communites will be serving up delicious samples of their favorite menu items or specialty dish to entce your appette. This is a family fun event for all ages. These funds create scholarships at Blessed Theresa of CalcuPa Catholic School, McCluer High School, McCluer South Berkley High School, McCluer North High School, MarquePe Catholic High School and assist young groups of all types within Ferguson, Mo.
