2 2 Introduction We Now Offer Online Services Goodlettsville Parks and Recreation began offering online services in the spring. The community can now search for activities, view program or facility details, schedules and availability, register or reserve, and pay online with a credit card from any computer connected to the Internet. We hope that you will take advantage of this service. 3 Facilities 3 Moss-Wright Park Moss-Wright Park spans over 147 acres of rolling land accessed, by Caldwell Road in Goodlettsville, TN. Recreational features include a two-mile cinder trail for walking court, a fenced dog park containing 10,000 square feet, a model aircraft field, and Historic Mansker s Station. Historic Mansker s Station Frontier Life Center Bicentennial. Mansker s Station is open for tours Tuesday-Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 AAA members and seniors, and $4 for children ages Children five and under are free. Group rates are available. and jogging, an exercise warm-up center at the beginning of the trail three shelters for rent, picnic tables, a large playground, two football fields, six baseball fields, six baseball practice fields, six soccer fields, a lighted sand volleyball Mansker s Station consists of two sites, Mansker s Fort and the Bowen Plantation House. The Station is a living history site where interpreters dress in period clothing and demonstrate what life was like on the Tennessee frontier in the late 18th Century. Typical of early Cumberland settlements, the Fort is an authentic reconstruction of a 1779 frontier log station. The City of Goodlettsville built the Fort as its Tennessee Homecoming project in The Bowen House, circa 1787, is original to the site and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was restored in the late 1970s to commemorate the American Delmas Long Community Center The community center is located at 200 Memorial Drive. Hours are 7:00am-9:00pm through March. The center features a gym with 6 basketball goals, a walking/jogging track, a game room with concessions, two activity/rental rooms, and a Senior adult room. Wireless Internet service is available for laptop users. Rental spaces include two rental rooms seating 35 each, the gym, and the entire community center. For fees and reservations call Pleasant Green Park Pleasant Green Park is tucked away at 360 Pleasant Green Drive in Goodlettsville. The 22 acre park features a swimming pool and concessions deck, two large shelters, two banquet rental rooms, and a paved walking/jogging trail half a mile in length. The pool may be rented out for private parties as well. Swimming lessons are offered during the months of June and July each year. Rental Options Make reservations online at or call Moss-Wright Park Shelters 1 and 2 have a capacity of 30 each. Shelter 3 is next to the playground and holds 90. Delmas Long Community Center Rooms 1 and 2 each hold 35 people. Tables and chairs are provided. The gym and the entire center may also be rented. Pleasant Green Park Clubhouse banquet rooms: upstairs holds 250 and downstairs holds 100. Tables and chairs are provided. Shelters 1 and 2 hold 48 people each. The pool may be rented out for private parties as well.

4 4 Programs General Information Registering for Programs We accept program registration in the following ways: Online we now offer online registration at With this option, pay with a credit card from the convenience of your own home. Walk in Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted at the Delmas Long Community Center. Phone in Credit cards are accepted with a call to , Monday Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. (Please note that credit cards will be accessed a transaction fee.) *Online registration is unavailable for some programs due to special instructor requirements. Preschool the sand and the toys - you provide the preschooler! Play with other toddlers and enjoy the summer sun. Ages: 2-5 yrs. Date: Monday, July 23 Time: 10:00am Location: Moss-Wright Park Sand Volleyball Court July 20 Squiggles to Giggles Children will get an opportunity to explore paints, glue, markers, play-doh and more in this hour of free time. Let their imagination run free and leave the mess with us! Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Ages: 2-5 yrs. Fee: $10 supply fee per month Date: 2nd and 4th Wednesday Time: 10:00am Registration Deadline: The 1st of each month Ages: 3-K Fee: $30 per month Registration: Please contact Randy Maples at or call Youth and Teens Pick-A-Pet A Pick-A-Pet is a stuffed animal that can be reserved from the Community Center for people of all ages to take on vacation or a day trip. Choose from a variety of animals including, Mogli the Tiger, Browser the Dog, Henry the Hippo, Floppy the Bunny, Brewster the Bunny, and twin lambs, Buttercup and Chloe. Each animal comes with its own ID card, which includes the name, age, hometown, and types of activities they enjoy. To reserve your pet, call the Community Center at to tell us which one you d like and then come pick it up. Every participant will have a designated space to draw their own masterpiece. Just bring yourself; we ll provide the chalk. Awards will be given to winners in the following age group segments: 3-5, 4-7, 8-11, and 12 and up. Ages: 3-15 Date: Saturday, July 14 Time: 8:30am July 13 Orienteering This class is ideal for hikers, campers, and anyone interested in learning to read a compass. Ages: 8+ Date: Thursday, September 13 Time: 6:00pm September 7 Wacky Water Fun Splish, splash, it's better than a bath. Put on your swimsuits or swimming diapers and come play in the kiddie pools in our backyard with lots of fun and wacky water toys. Play with other toddlers and enjoy the summer sun! Ages: 2-5 yrs. Date: Wednesday, August 15 Time: 10:00am August 3 Super Sand Day Running out of things to do with your active preschooler? We will provide abrakadoodle Mini Doodlers Mini Doodlers gleefully create their own masterpieces. Lessons are carefully designed to ignite the imagination, foster creativity, and develop new skills. Each lesson provides new experiences with paint, watercolors, pastels, and other creative tools and materials. Most lessons are framed with our framedoodles. picture of yourself with your animal on your vacation or outing, and then give us a copy when you return your pet. Also, put a pin in our world map and let s see how far our pets have traveled! Ages: All ages Date: Ongoing Time: 9:00am-5:00pm, Mon.-Fri. Girls Volleyball League This league will provide every girl a chance to learn and play the game of volleyball in a fun and safe environment. Matches will be on Thursday nights with practices being held on Saturday mornings. Ages: Fee: $40 per person Date: League begins September 6 Time: 8:30am Registration: August 6-17 Adults Calligraphy Have you ever wanted to try your hand at calligraphy? Now you can admire it, and learn it as well, in this

5 (cont.) 3- week beginners class. You will learn how to hold a pen and learn the Roman alphabet. No shopping necessary; the instructor will provide everything you need. The instructor, Louise Thompson, is a graduate of Alverno College with a BA in Studio Arts and Religious Studies. She is a member of the Nashville Calligraphers Guild. Her work has been exhibited in Wisconsin and Tennessee, most recently at the Centennial Art Center. Ages: 16+ Fee: Class fee is $ material fee of $30.00 Date: August 15, 22, and 29 Time: 6:30pm August 3 Basket Weaving Admire fresh fruit in your very own Kentucky Berry Basket. All levels welcome, and this project is great for beginners! This class is limited to 12 individuals; please contact Ashley Staley at to sign up. The instructor, Cherri Coleman, is a former student of the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina. She demonstrates white oak basket weaving at numerous historic sites across the state including Historic Rock Castle, Travellers Rest Plantation, and The Homeplace at Land Between the Lakes. Ages: 8+ (Students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.) Fee: $ Includes Supplies Date: Saturday, August 4 Time: 10:00 am 4:00 pm Location: Historic Mansker s Station Welcome Center July 20 *Please bring a sack lunch. Citizen s Safety Awareness and Self-Defense Class In partnership with the Goodlettsville Police Department and Moss Tae Kwon Do, Goodlettsville Parks and Recreation will be offering a self defense course taught by Officer Brian Moore. He will instruct participants on how to increase awareness and defend themselves against common attacks by empowering their mind and body with techniques and knowledge that could prevent them from being victimized. He will give participants a plan of action with alternatives that heighten their state of awareness. The class is limited to 20 participants. Ages: Fee: $35 Date: August 6 and 7 Time: 6:00-9:00pm Registration Deadline: August 3 Swing Dance Swing is an upbeat, popular dance enjoyed by people of all ages. Swing is a great dance to develop rhythm, animation, and the ability to lead and follow turns. The simple steps and accented beat makes Swing very easy to learn. This course lasts 6-weeks. Ages: 18+ Fee: $48 for individuals, $72 per couple Date: Will begin in August, still TBD Time: 7:00pm Registration: Please call for information. Wedding Dance Lessons and Choreography Do you have a wedding coming up and need to learn how to dance that first dance? Do you have a particular song in mind and want it choreographed? We can help! Barry and Dari Anne Amato prepared supermodel Niki Taylor for her wedding and can do the same for you. Programs 5 Mikeal Hale picks Browser the Dog from the Pick-A-Pet crew. All lessons are private. Ages: Adult Fee: $75 per hour Date: TBD by participants Time: TBD by participants Registration: For information, call Jazzercise The world's leading dance-fitness program is offered four times a week at the community center. Jazzercise combines elements of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, and more into an effective, total body-conditioning program for people of every age and fitness level. Classes meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6:00pm and on Saturdays at 9:15am. To register, simply come to class minutes early. Ages: 12+ Fee: $25 joining fee, $35 Easy Fitness Ticket (automatic payment from checking account or credit card; no minimum monthly commitment required), or $80 eight-week pass Registration: Contact Melissa Jaggers at or Yoga This is a class for basic stretching, toning, breathing, and relaxation. It is designed to create a balanced, strong, and healthy body. Ages: 18+ Fee: $7 per class Date and Time: Monday at 9:00am, Tuesday at 4:30pm, Friday at 9:30am Registration: not required Oprah s Book Club Oprah is coming to Goodlettsville through Oprah s Book Club! Joy Mayfield will lead this book club based on Oprah s outline and book selections will be made from the group. Ages: 16+ Fee: none Date: 2nd Tuesday of each month Time: 6:30pm Registration Deadline: 5 days prior to event Family Activities Family Activities Outdoor Exploration Series If you can close your eyes and envision: adults and children setting up a tent, singing silly songs, listening to stories around a campfire, identifying constellations on a clear crisp night, tasting roasted marshmallows straight from a warm fire, and meeting new friends; then open your eyes and sign your family up for this new series of outdoor recreation programming! Participate in family friendly activities that lead up to an exciting overnight camping adventure at

Ages: 8+ Date: Thursday, September 13 Time: 6:00pm September 7 Mother/Son Bouncy Fun For the moms and sons that were left out of the Father/Daughter Dance, this event is for you! Come spend a fun night out together (and with us)! We ll have inflatables and snacks for your enjoyment in the gym. Come ready to play! Ages: All Fee: $10 Date: Saturday, September 15 Time: 6:00pm Tickets may be purchased starting August 13 Special Events Four Seasons Summer Photo Contest (presented by Wolf Camera) The Four Seasons Photo Contest is open to amateur photographers of any age. Photos must have been taken in a Goodlettsville park or city-owned property during the months listed for each deadline. All entries for seasons must be received or postmarked by: August 24th-Summer Contest; and November 24th-Fall Contest; February 24th-Winter Contest; May 24th-Spring Contest. Photos will be displayed at City Hall, and prizes will be awarded to winners each season. Details can be picked up at the Community Center or at four_seasons_photography. 4th of July The City of Goodlettsville s Annual Fourth of July Celebration will take place on Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at Moss-Wright Park from 4:00pm to 10:00pm. This is a great family and community event that you will not want to miss. There will be music, food, games, inflatables, and a huge fireworks show to wrap up the day! Aquatics Swim Lessons Learn to swim this summer! New skills are introduced and previously learned skills are reviewed and refined each day. Ages: 4+ Fee: $65 Dates: July 9-12 Time: 5:15 6:15pm Location: Pleasant Green Pool Registration Deadline: July 2 Swim Team The purpose of the Goodlettsville Recreational Swim Team is to provide young swimmers with an opportunity for summer recreational swimming competition, in an atmosphere that fosters sportsmanship, team spirit, cooperation, and respect for other swimmers. For an individual swimmer to participate on the swim team, they must be able to swim from one end of the pool to the other without assistance. Ages: 4+ Fee: $25 Dates: July 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, and 26 Time: 8:00am-9:00am Location: Pleasant Green Pool Registration Deadline: July 2 After Hours Family Swim Time Can t make it to the pool during regular pool hours? This year, families will have the opportunity to take part in After Hours Family Swim Time until 7:30pm on select nights. Family Four Packs are available for purchase and will include admission, hot dog, chips, and a coke or water. Price: $20 Family Four Pack, each additional family member $5.00 Admission without Family Pack: $3.00 per person Date: July 17 and August 2 Time: 5:30-7:30pm Location: Pleasant Green Pool Tickets must be purchased 1 day in advance. Discover SCUBA Join the fun and excitement as you experience the underwater world of SCUBA diving within the Pleasant Green Pool. Participants will be introduced to basic SCUBA diving skills and experience the freedom of swimming underwater. Ages: 10+ Date: July 26 Time: 8:00am-9:00am Location: Pleasant Green Pool Registration Deadline: July 2; Preregistration is required. Call Scuba Adventures at for dates and pricing information. Parent s Day July is Parks and Recreation Month. Enjoy at day at your local swimming pool and park! Kids, bring your parents to the pool on Saturday, July 14 to cool off from the summer heat. Parents receive free admission when accompanied by their child. Decorate the Deck Help us decorate the deck. Swimmers can design the pool deck to their heart s desire. Use our chalk or bring your own. Either way it will be tons of fun! Ages: All ages Fee: Regular admission Date: Sunday, July 29 Time: Regular pool hours, 12-5pm Registration: Not required End of Summer Luau Party Put on your tropical shirts, leis, and bathing suits and get ready to party as the staff of Pleasant Green Pool hosts its first ever end of summer luau party from 5:30-7:30pm! The party will be Saturday, August 11, the last day the pool is open for the season. Free for season pass holders and $5 for everyone else. Friday Night Floats Cool off from the summer heat and float your cares away! Friday nights from 4-5pm rafts, inner-tubes, noodles, and other flotation devices will be allowed at the Pool. Athletics Dollar General Goodlettsville Four Mile Classic Come out and run in the 10th Annual Goodlettsville Classic! The certified course (TN00012RH) is flat and mostly shaded on a trail and pavement. An awards ceremony will immediately follow the race.

7 (cont.) First place Men s and Women s Overall receives $100 cash prize. Second place Men s and Women s Overall receives $75, and Third place Men s and Women s Overall receives $50 cash prize.
