Fall off the wagon? Didn t make any? Well Its not to late to start! I like to keep it simple using the F method. Faith, family, friends, finances and fun! Keeping these in proper balance is challenging enough for me. I wish you all the success with all of yours! Did you know the month of February is the most fun? Its true! It is also my favorite. This short month is here and gone before you can properly pronounce it! Filled with special events such as groundhog day, the Super Bowl, (go saints) Mardi gras, Valentines day, birthdays, holidays and more, February is packed with fun! I hope you will join us as we defend our title at CityView Lanes in Fort Worth for the Annual Chapter Bowling Challenge on Sunday the 21st. 2 Chapter Life Directive from Leadership 2 As you are aware come the end of 2010 you will need another Chapter Director. This individual must complete The Officer Certification Program. This applies to all current and future officers. All current Directors and Assistant Directors at each level (Chapter, District, and Region) must complete the Officer Certification Program by August 31, The Officer Certification Program is open to any Member or Associate Member of GWRRA. The OCP is also an informational seminar for any Member who wishes to learn more about the Association. Currently there are two of these 2 day classes scheduled, the first March 6 & 7th, and the second is set for June 5-6 at the Civic Center in Killeen. If you are interested in the Director position you will be required to be certified within six weeks of filling the position. Because this is a directive, the chapter will help pick up the cost of this class for the prospective candidate. This seminar and certification is required for leading a GWRRA chapter. 3 Whose Riding? Apparently not many of us have been riding. There have even been scattered reports of Wing abuse. Can you imagine a wing just sitting idle? How long has it been since you last rode? Don t wait for the groundhog to tell you how much longer you will have to wait? In accordance with an annual tradition established in 1887, Phil will come out of his hole of winter hibernation at 7:25am Feb 2nd to forecast the time frame for the arrival of spring! I can t wait! Chapter Appreciation Jeff presenting former treasurer Donna Adair with letter of appreciation at the January gathering. 3 T.G.I.F RIDE Gary Wheatley led a ride for 10 others on a warm breezy Friday down to Llano for lunch at Coopers BBQ. A good reason to call in sick! A favorite for many, this is a must do ride! Good friends, good eats, and a good ride. Lets do it again! Marsha and Jackie thinking about dessert? Think they all enjoyed the food? Jerry said he was paying!

4 T Education 4 It's been a looooong off season for some of us. As the temperature starts to rise, so does our anticipation for the riding season to begin. Since we haven't been riding, we may need to look over our bikes to make sure they are in good working order so we can really enjoy this coming riding season. 1. Change the oil and filter. Honda recommend changing the oil and filter before storing your bike for any extended period of time and again when you bring it back out for riding season. Be sure to first start up the motorcycle to warm the engine and then shut it off before changing the oil and filter. 2. Check nuts and bolts. Start off the riding season with a solid bike. Make sure everything is tight. A wellmaintained motorcycle not only assures a fun time, it can save you money by avoiding accidents. 3. Inspect tires. Look for any damage or cracks and also make sure each tire is inflated to the correct pressure. You ve only got two tires (or three if you have a trike or side car), so for maximum stability it is very important to avoid under inflation as well as over inflation. Motorcycle tires are only good for 5 years before the need to be replaced regardless of how much tread life is left. Check the date code stamped into the sidewall of the tire. It will be either a 3 or 4 digit code. The first two numbers will be the week it was made and the last one or two will be the year it was made. 4. Check your coolant level and make sure it properly rated for our hot temperatures. 5. Look for fluid leaks. The easiest way to check for this is to look at the floor under the motorcycle. Leaking oil or brake, radiator or clutch fluid can cause their own special problems. For example, being low on brake fluid could make it hard to stop your motorcycle. You don t want to find that out after you re already on the road. Along with tires, your hydraulic fluids should be replaced every 3 to 4 years. 6. Check all lights. Make sure headlights, taillights, brake lights and turn signals are all functioning properly. 7. Brush up on your riding skills. Find a safe place to practice riding skills such as fast stops, figure eights, u-turns, etc., so you re ready for the season. You ll be glad you did. Preparation early on will insure we will have an enjoyable riding season. RIDE CAPTIANS NEEDED Want to contribute to your chapter? Lead a ride! We should all be committed to riding safely! Attend a class, sharpen your skills, and be prepared in case of emergencies. Wear proper riding gear and stay accident free.
