3 NO SUGAR ADDED Spaghetti dinners are doing great! Where else can you get the best spaghetti in Orlando for $5.00!! I ve been asked if I have a secret sauce recipe. Well it s not a secret and I would be glad to share it with you. I don t add any sugar or salt. Too many members are diabetics and so am I. I use a good brand of tomato sauce. I use natural seasoning. I don t use chopped onions, mushrooms or peppers because I have to make it where everyone can enjoy it. I add Italian seasoning, oregano, basil, and garlic powder in moderate portions. The great flavor (LIKE YOUR MOMMA MADE) comes from cooking it all day in slow cookers. If you haven t tried the spaghetti lately, I m sure you will enjoy it. See you Thursday! 4 ADMINISTRATOR S MESSAGE: by Dan O Neal Wow! The membership campaign we ran in January was a huge success. We received 46 applications in January alone and intend to continue the promotion by charging only $35.00 for new and former members to join. We will likely continue the campaign as long as we see good results. Although we expect to run the special through April 30th we don t want potential sponsors to become complacent by feeling they still have plenty of time to take advantage of the opportunity. Therefore we plan to roll out the promotion one month at a time because a shorter deadline tends to psychologically make people feel the need for expediency. So don t wait, sign them up now! We will soon have an alarm completed on the two doors in the screened (smoking) room. These doors were never intended to serve as entry ways or exits, but we had to have them to meet fire code. There are signs on these doors notifying members not to enter or exit through the doors, however, some have been ignoring the notice. Once the alarm goes active, members may find themselves suspended for improper usage. Please do not use the doors because we hope to keep ALL of our members! We still have a group of folks volunteering their time to beautify our lodge. Thanks to John Boruch and Don Bovines for putting up the gate near the back door, hiding the alleyway. Christine Mexicott continues (with help from Don & John) to spruce up the women s restroom with new paint and gave the floor a serious scrubbing. Albert Harvey is still working on landscaping. We owe these folks a great round of applause for their good work here. Thanks so much! Fraternally, Dan SOME DATES TO REMEMBER: March 1-2 Moose Legion Merritt Island March 16 Lodge Golf Lk. Orlando G.C. March 17 WOTM Election of Officers April 3-6 Mid Year Orlando Rosen Plaza Hotel April 9th LOOM Election of Officers April 20 Easter Sunday May 4 Chili Cook Lodge Pool Committee By Danny Keel OMPP Chairman Hello everyone. The Friday night Blind Draw has been very successful. We have had this event every Friday night since November 1st. We would like more players to show up. Our maximum is 32 people and we need about 10 more a week to hit our goal. We are matching the pot to encourage more people to play. We have changed the format which enables us to finish the blind draw much earlier than before. We have consistently been able to finish by 12:00 every week. We are excited about the Jack and Jill scheduled for March 2. Our goal is to make this Jack & Jill better than the last one. We will have lots of door prizes, a 50/50, and other surprises. The limit is 32 teams so sign up early. You will find applications on the bulletin board in the pool room. If you need a partner you can add your name and we will help find a partner for you. Danny Entertainment Committee by Danny Keel, Chairman \ We are very excited about this coming year. We have a lot of new bands that we will be bringing into our lounge to add some fresh new energy and talent. We are also starting anew Concert Series in the Concert Hall better known as the ballroom. This means we will be bringing some of the best bands in Orlando to our Lodge for live shows. There will be a small cover fee of $5.00 at the door just like we do on ballroom dancing night, which we will continue to do. This helps cover the cost of the better bands. We have a committee in place, including myself, Norm White, Helen Boruch and Justin Keel. We have lots of ideas and would also like to hear yours. We believe this is going to be an amazing year. By the time you read this our first concert will have taken place on February 22 and the band was Down Beats. We have scheduled Bone Brothers for our next Concert Series on March 22. Come out for a night of great classic rock and bring a guest. We need support of the lodge to keep this series going. Danny It s election Time Again. Also to those who worked so hard to help on the Rolling Cooler of Cheer raffle. Special thanks to Joy Slate, Scot Mowry, & Charles Benson for selling the tickets. It was a great success thanks to all who participated. E.T. Ryan I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Moose family for you're help in allowing me back to the lodge. I have been informed that once Moose International expels a member, they have never reversed that decision. Due to the persistent efforts of so many Moose members, my reinstatement is a miracle. Against great odds, the Moose family fought on my behalf, and won the battle. My heart felt thanks to all of you. Job well done! I didn't know how much I missed the lodge, until privileges were revoked. I am so happy to be back, I look forward to contributing to the needs of our lodge, grilling for our big events, and helping where I can. None of this would have been possible without the help of so many. I am truly humbled. Again, thank you all Dan Wark 5

7 ORIENTATION REPORT - By Chuck Myers In the last few months attendance at our orientations has been increasing. In January we had 9 men and 3 women. Wonderful! As a result of that meeting four new Moose Legionaires were signed. Let's keep it going. The month of January was a fantastic month for the LOOM; more than 40 men came in as members. A main reason for that is the reduced dues currently being continued. Most of those new members don't know a lot about the Moose. Sponsors...don't forget these new members. Contact them and invite them to an orientation. Have them bring their wives or girl friends. This could help our women too. Also if their friends decide to join with us it could get some new members free dues for their next year etc., thus perhaps helping retention which we need desperately. And I'm reasonably confident that some additional Moose Legionaires will be found among these new members. It's all positive. Let's keep it going. Our next orientations are March 19th and April 16th 7:30 See you and your new members there? I hope so. Thanks, Chuck Myers Fraternally, Chuck FROM THE KITCHEN By Karen Collins Good job to the employees and volunteers who helped with the APA Pool Tournament. Lunches Monday thru Sunday consist of cold sandwiches, pizza, or Taco in a Bag. Some days we will offer homemade soup. Friday night is all you can eat fish, plus the Friday Special. Stokes My Dear Sisters in Green. Thank you for your confidence in me and your generous support during the year 2013/2014. As some of you are aware, a number of family emergencies during the past six months were extremely stressful and I was truly grateful for your indulgence. Our final meeting for this chapter year was held Feb. 17th. We served a myriad of goodies and those who stayed enjoyed a game with prizes. My sincere thanks to each of you for a great year. Fraternally, Joan COLLEGE OF REGENTS by Barbara Myers This is my last message as College of Regents chairman for the chapter year. People acting together as a group can accomplish things which no individual acting alone could ever hope to bring about. For all your help and support we had a very successful year. Next Date: March 22, : P.M. $5.00 donation at the door Hope to be a regular Monthly event with your participation.. 8 Governor s Message by Charles Benson What a difference a year can make. In February 2013, we were the envy of other Lodges, making as much as $10,000 in profit a month from our gaming machines. The staff deserved a pay raise and the smoking room plans needed some changes. We could afford both. As Treasurer, I expected changes in the State s gambling laws, but not any sooner than In the meantime we could make more payments on the sewer loan and accumulate an additional surplus. Then, out of the blue, our golden goose disappeared. While we have adjusted, it has been a painful process. The pay raises were rescinded; the extra sewer payments were postponed. Perhaps the clearest sign of the new order has been our dead water cooler outside of the men s office. I hope to bring the water back with private funds. For other expenses we deal with on a monthly basis..insurance payments, freezer repairs, utility bills,.i need your help. If you enjoy the Lodge, make it a big part of your social life. Recent events suggest that you are doing just that. We had nearly 300 members and guests at the New Year s party.by far the largest number in the past few years. Since then, weekend dining room and lounge receipts have consistently exceeded the norm. Perhaps most significantly, January s new members totaled 46, the highest monthly number since Dan O Neal began processing applications eight years ago. Before closing, I want to recognize Jim Jeffcoat s contribution to the Lodge s financial wellbeing. As best I can tell from documents, Jim was instrumental in getting the Beech Billboard facing 441 on the northwest corner of our property. More than once I complained to Jim about the $500 monthly payment from Beech believing that we should get more. That issue can be dealt with in 2019 when the lease expires. In the meantime Jim s efforts in 1999 have put $90,000 in our coffers, with another $30,000 due over the next five years. Thanks Jim. Fraternally yours, Charles D. Benson Senior Regent s Message by Jenny Stoner Hello Ladies! This is the last newsletter for the year We still have activities planned for the months of March and April. I hope that you will come out and enjoy these functions. Please note the $0 application fee campaign waiving the $30.00 application fee will end April 30, NOW is the time to sign up new members and save them the $30.00 application fee. The sign up 2 members or more per year and have your dues paid for a year is still in effect. Just a quick reminder...our meetings are the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month and are held in the Ballroom at 7:30pm. We would like to see more of you ladies come to the meetings. Please bring your membership card. Attending our meetings is a sure way of keeping up with Chapter activities. The Community Service Committee will have a "St. Patty's Day" dance March 15th in the Ballroom, 7:00pm-10:00pm. So get ready for "green" beer to flow! Check the posters & flyer's for information. The "Chairmen and Officer s Dance" sponsored by the Academy of Friendship Committee, will be April 12th in the Ballroom, 7:00pm -10:00pm. The Band will be "Good Company" Thanks to all that have helped make our lodge a better place. I also would like to thank my Board of Officers and my Chairmen, and a big thanks to everyone that has stepped up and given or offered me assistance. This is a great Fraternity and it helps to think that we are on the same team! Please continue to support your Chapter and Lodge. Every time you come out to the Lodge you are helping those at Mooseheart and Moosehaven and we Thank You! ~~~Remember...there is no i in team...it takes us all to keep things going smoothly~~~ Jenny Stoner, 9
