Thurmont, MD Frederick, MD & Volume 19 Issue 1 January 2018 Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!! Hello Retreads, this is our first newsletter as your new Reps, we hope you will enjoy. We ended our 2017 with a wonderful Christmas Luncheon at Mountain Gate on December 3. We had a very very good turnout, 63 Retreads and friends attended the luncheon. Thanks to everyone who shared in celebrating. Beautiful little gingerbread men were made by Gail Nolte as table favors, thank you Gail for all your hard work. And it seems that little elves put a Christmas stocking with goodies inside on the tables as well. Jeff welcomed everyone to the luncheon and had a blessing before we all started to fill our bellies, oh what good food and deserts. If you didn't get enough to eat, shame on you! After our meal and before the door prizes were given out. Ron & I presented Jeff & Patsy with a token of appreciation from all Retreads for their years of leadership service to us all. It was bittersweet, they aren t leaving us, but it was hard to say goodbye to their leadership. They are amazing people, and loved by all. Thanks again Jeff & Patsy for everything. Thanks and certificates were given from Jeff & Patsy to all the helpers in 2017 for their hard work. It wouldn t be a well organized club without those helpers, Thanks to all of you. There was an abundance of door prizes to be given out, everyone went home with a very nice gift of some sort, some even took home 2, again thanks to all who donated door prizes. We ended our luncheon with lots of hugs and Merry Christmas Wishes. On December 15th, Jeff & I purchased items for the Kline Hospice House from their wish list and delivered the items to them. They are very appreciative of our donations each year. It gives you a warm feeling to know you just might brighten someone s day. Now on to Happy New Year Retreads If you have not sent in your renewal you must do that soon, or you won t be receiving your newsletter. So please renew, we will miss you if you don t. We are very pleased to announce that Allen and Donna Droneburg has accepted our request to be Assistant Reps, we look forward to working with them. At our planning meeting in November we came up with some ideas for rides after breakfast, if anyone has any suggestions for rides, dinners or ice cream please let us know, we will be happy to listen to your ideas. We are looking for a Ride Leader, someone who would like to keep tabs on the schedule rides, and if their isn t one scheduled maybe picking up and leading one somewhere, if interested please let us know. There isn t a ride planned for January, but hopefully we might come up with something for February. Ron & Sharon

Monthly after breakfast group rides are planned. If inclement weather, ride will be postponed until later in the year. If you have a ride you would like to lead or a suggestion for a ride, please let us know. January 7, 2017, 9am, Breakfast - no after breakfast ride scheduled February 4, 9am - Breakfast & Food drive. Bring a non-perishable item for a Frederick or Washington County food bank, or non-perishable dog or cat food to be given to the Frederick Humane Society. We will have a brief Ride Committee after breakfast. However, the close proximity of other riders does add to the risk of operating a motorcycle. To stay safe in a group riding situation, remember the following tips: Use a staggered riding formation to provide a sufficient space cushion between group members. Each rider must have enough space and time to react to any hazards that you might encounter. If you're traveling on a curvy road or visibility is poor, ride in a single-file formation. Side-by-side formations should be avoided whenever possible. If you're traveling in this manner, you may not be able to swerve if you encounter an obstacle in your path. Riders one the same track should have a distance between them of at least 2 seconds. Motorcycle operators carrying passengers should ride on the right whenever possible. Novice riders shouldn't carry passengers at all. If someone in the group is riding a motorcycle with a sidecar, have him/her ride at the rear or front of the group. As you're riding, periodically check your rearview mirror to make sure the person behind you isn't falling behind. If necessary, slow down to allow him/her to catch up. Don't allow anyone to get separated from the group. Ideally, your group should include people with similar skill levels and riding styles. But, if you are traveling with both new and experienced motorcycle operators, keep the novice riders in the middle of the group to prevent them from falling behind. Doc, I need something for my eyes, I can t see very well these days. The Doc fixes him up with a pair of glasses and tells him to return in a couple of weeks. The snake comes back in two weeks and tells the doctor he s very depressed. Doc says, What s the problem? Didn t the glasses help you? The glasses are fine doc, but I just discovered I ve been living with a water hose for the past two years! ******** ********
