These classes are offered through the Seldens Landing Elementary PTA Fundraiser Program. They are not Loudoun County School Board endorsed and Seldens Landing Elementary School is not responsible for course content. We reserve the right to remove, for the remainder of the session, any student whose inappropriate behavior disrupts the program.
2 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS MONDAY: Art Monsters Grades 2-5 Meets Mondays: Students can let their imaginations soar by creating fun and exciting monsters using all types of art mediums, from sculpture, to paint, to drawing, and more! Boys Jogging Club Grades 3-5 Meets Mondays: Boys come get in shape and learn about healthy eating habits to enhance sport performance. The jogging club will implement agility exercises, aerobic activities, and nutritional advice to all that participate. Boys will work towards increasing their cardio-respiratory endurance so they can successfully complete a running event. The culminating event will be a 5k walk/run event in Leesburg on Sunday May 18 at Loudoun County High School (starting time 10:00 am). Team shirts will be provided for the run. The event will be sponsored by Great Strides a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Girls Jogging Club Grades 1-5 Meets Mondays: Girls come get in shape and learn about healthy eating habits to enhance sport performance. CLASS DESCRIPTIONS TUESDAYS: Little Scholars Wood Creations Grades K-2 Meets Tuesdays: Bang, Bang, Sand, Sand keep your hands and minds building with wood creations! We will build and design mini tree houses, totem poles, robots, cars and many more fantastic wood creations by hammering, sanding and painting our own wood masterpieces. (Tools used in the class are hammers, sandpaper and nails). Soccer Grades K-5 Meets Tuesdays: We will be doing soccer drills to help with fundamentals, agilities to help with footwork, and situational drills/scrimmages to help with game sense. Hip Hop Dance - Grades 1-3 Meets Tuesdays: Studio Bleu Dance Instructors will teach you various Hip Hop dance movements in a fun-filled and vibrant class environment. Boys and Girls are welcome. Clay Club Grades 2-5 Meets Tuesdays: Students can explore the different possibilities of working with clay, using everything from real clay, to Model Magic, to Plasticlay; we will create fun, imaginative sculptures in this club! Lego Robotics 101- Grades 2-5 Meets Tuesdays: Come join Mr. Eldridge and learn how to program Lego Robots to go through mazes, perform task, and even dance. In this six week class you will work with other students and learn how to program the robots using the Lego Robotics' MindStorm program. Here is a quick overview of what you will be doing each week: Week 1- Intro to Robots, Software, and Programming Week 2- Mazes Part 1 Week 3- Mazes Part 2 Week 4- The Engineering Challenge Week 5- Programing for Dance Off Week 6- The Robot Dance Off Throughout the class we will be creating videos and posting them weekly onto our Robotics' website so parents and friends can see what we are up to. (Check out what we did last
3 semester at legorobotics101.blogspot.com) The robots, software, and computers will all be provided; you only need to sign up before the class is full. See you there! Eat With Us Grades 3-5 Meets Tuesdays: Master Chefs (wink wink) Mrs. Franz and Mrs. Branick will take the kids on a culinary adventure of kid-friendly desserts! Menu items for this class will include cupcake decorating, cake pop creations, rice crispy treasures, and candy sushi, to just name a few! Each week students will be presented with a different dessert item (or two) to decorate and assemble. Students will take home finished products from each class to share with their families. Please be sure to bring an empty food container to transport these delicacies home! Eat With Us will serve up fun food items for boys and girls in grades 3-5. **An additional $25 will be collected on the first day to cover martials. *Please note, due to the fact that this class is part of the Seldens Landing Elementary PTA Fundraiser Program, and is not Loudoun County School Board endorsed, the Food In Schools Guidelines do not apply to this course. If you have questions about ingredients or supplies being used, feel free to contact Mrs. Branick or Mrs. Franz. Rainbow Loom Hang Out - Grades 2-5 Meets Tuesdays: This class is for all 2nd - 5th grade students interested in working on Rainbow Loom projects. All skill levels are welcome. During class Mrs. Hrynyk will teach a variety of Rainbow Loom patterns and help students with their bracelets (or other projects). The focus for this class is fun and creativity in a relaxed environment! Students will need to bring their own loom and bands. Due to All County Chorus the class will start one week later April 8, Scratch Computer Programming Grades 3-5 Meets Tuesdays: Students will be introduced to Scratch, a programming language where they can create their own interactive stories, games, and animations and safely share them with others in the online community! Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively-- all essential skills for life in the 21st century. Fitness and Fun with Mr. Sager * Grades 3-5 Meets Tuesdays: Join Mr. Sager for fitness and fun. Get stronger and faster while playing games as well. Classes may go outside when the weather is above 50 degrees. Students will have time to change into exercise clothes. CLASS DESCRIPTIONS WEDNESDAYS: Kaboom Kickball Grades K-2 Meets Wednesdays: Join OTA for this playground favorite! Knock it out of the park with a big kick and use those same feet to motor around the bases. This program is all about playing the game. More game time equals more fun! The class will focus on teamwork and sportsmanship. Sign up today! Curiosity Zone s Science & Legos : Astronaut Training -- Grades Meets Wednesdays. Kids will enter our Astronaut Training Academy and prepare for a manned mission to Mars. Each class features both hands on science activities and a Lego building activity to explore space travel, rockets, animals in space, robots, space weather, planetary geology, stars and lots more. The class fee includes $20 in Lego & science gear that kids take home to continue learning. Brain Teasers & Mind Bender Games Grades 1-5 Meets Wednesdays: Want to challenge your brains AND have fun at the same time? Come on out and engage in fun, educational, brain challenging games! Some games are individual, while others have you competing against a number of different opponents. Games such as Rush Hour, Blokus, Mancala, Chocolate Fix, Squzzles, Tip Over and Izzi are just a few of the games to explore. A great time is sure to be had! Advances Lego Robotics Grades 2-5 Meets Wednesdays: This class will be a continuation from our Robotics 101 course. Students who have attended the previous class or who have experience with using the Lego Robotics program are encouraged to join. Here is an overview of what to expect: Week 1- Refresher Course
4 Week 2- The Maze Battle Week 3- Robotics Competition Week 4- New Robot New Commands Week 5- The Ultimate Challenge Programing Week 6- The Ultimate Challenge Throughout the class we will be creating videos and posting them weekly onto our Robotics' website so parents and friends can see what we are up to. (Check out what we did last semester in Robotics 101 at legorobotics101.blogspot.com) The robots, software, and computers will all be provided; you only need to sign up before the class is full. See you there! Art Club Grades 2-5 Meets Wednesdays: Students get a chance to explore, experiment with a wide variety of art materials and media in this fun and exciting afterschool art club! Zumba Kids Grades 3-5 Meets Wednesdays: Come and learn the Latin moves as you dance to both popular American music as well as popular Latin music! Zumba is an internationally renowned dance program for all ages! In this class you will learn dances like Salsa, Merengue and Reggaton! You will learn to feel the music as you dance and have a blast! By the end of the 6 weeks, you will receive a certificate, Zumba gift and you will be able to show off your moves!! Come Zumba with Melissa! CLASS DESCRIPTIONS THURSDAYS: Flip Cheer and Fun Grades K-2 Meets Thursday: All Star Legacy Flip, Cheer & Fun Class is designed to teach all of the basic aspects and fundamentals of tumbling & cheerleading. Your student will learn cheers, jumps, motions, stunting, tumbling and more. Kids Click Computer Club Grades K-2 Meets Thursdays: Students will learn about and utilize various software and safe internet programs while creating their own fun and innovative projects, including a multi-media slideshow! Little Scholars Wiz Kids Grades K-2 Meets Thursdays: Grab your goggles and lab coat we are heading on a scientific discovery mission to explore the world of science through everyday objects, experiments and encounters. This class will enhance the STEM education philosophies taught in your science class. Rock and Fire Speed and Agility Grades K-5 Meets Thursdays: The first step on your way to becoming a Superhero... or at least Quicker, Faster, Speedier! Come join us as we go up and down, left and right, back and forth all the way to the finish line. OTA will implement its signature curriculum for teaching the latest techniques in athletic skill development. This "one stop shop" for improving as a soccer player, basketball player, football player, baseball player, lacrosse player, field hockey player, tennis player, volleyball player, and playground champion will include games, contests and a field day atmosphere every class! The only question that will be asked, "Can you beat who you were on the first day, when you play on the last day?" Yoga Grade 1-5 Meets Thursdays: Come join Catherine Bretzel who is a certified Yogafit instructor. Mrs. Bretzel has taught adult, senior, kids, teens, and prenatal yoga classes for Ida Lee Rec Center, Fitness First, Loudoun Country Day School and a local Chiropractic office. Classes explore yoga poses, breathing exercises, visual imagery and relaxation techniques. We will work on flowing sequences, balancing and partner poses, mat work and end each session with a few minutes of deep relaxation. The atmosphere will be calm, grounding and playful. Students will need to provide a light mat for the class. Flip Cheer and Fun Grades 3-5 Meets Thursday: All Star Legacy Flip, Cheer & Fun Class is designed to teach all of the basic aspects and fundamentals of tumbling & cheerleading. Your student will learn cheers, jumps, motions, stunting, tumbling and more.
5 Minecraft Modding and Game Design Grades 3-5 Meets Thursdays: In this class, students will learn how to create and texture their own items and codes using the popular game Minecraft, while at the same time learning the basics of Java! Learn how to create and implement your own custom blocks, weapons, food, recipes, and more! Determine how each of your own items appear and behave. Students will learn from premade templates, and how to create their own Java packages and classes. By the end of the class, students will have their own fully functional Minecraft mod package that they can use and modify at home! Do you spend hours at a time playing Minecraft? Learn how to improve your gameplay experience, and create your own custom mods today! CLASS DESCRIPTIONS FRIDAYS: Art Club Jr. - Grade 1 Meets Fridays: First Graders get a chance to explore, experiment with a wide variety of art materials and media in this fun and exciting afterschool art club! Future Doctors Grades 3-5 Meets Fridays: Wear a white coat and learn about what doctors do and how they do it. You ll do fun activities like Not So Gross Anatomy, wacky patient histories, skits, see real MRIs, X-rays and other scans and on the last day, participate in Match Day to find out what kind of doctor you ll be and where you ll work. Touch Football Grades 3-5 Meets Fridays: Join Mr. Sager for touch football. Teams will change weekly. Non-contact and fun each week!
