We hope everyone will think about bringing a healthy lunchbox containing very little rubbish. Remember Nude food is food that is not wrapped in foil, plastic or commercial packaging and is healthy for us. The best types of nude food is fresh food. Please help us reduce the amount of rubbish that goes into the bins, that goes into the ground that pollutes our planet. We want everyone to think Nude Food every day! Chantelle, Tessa and Indi Reports Reports are being finalised and they will be distributed next Wednesday, 28th June. All teachers in 2017 are required to implement the Victorian Curriculum, which has therefore forced some changes to our reporting documents, as well as allowing some flexibility to report. In consultation with our School Council Parent Representatives and 2017 Staff Members, we have decided to make the following changes: *Students will not be marked A-E for progression, instead they will be rated using the terminology well below standard, below standard, at standard, above standard or well above standard. *Due to changes set by the Department and its Curriculum team, only students achieving 18 months ahead will now be rated as well above standard. Previously, students who were marked as 12 months ahead were rated as an A (well above standard). Students who are 6-12 months ahead, will now be marked as above standard. 2 (Continued from page 1) *Lastly, due to Curriculum changes, no comparison of progression can be compared to the last 6 or twelve months. This will be blended into our end of year report to show progression. Learning Conferences In week 3 next term we will be holding Learning Conferences (Monday 31st July, Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd August). These provide parents, students and teachers with the chance to come together and share and celebrate the learning that has been happening at school. As parents you may have questions about what you have read in your child s report which you can ask at this time. Students will be eager to show off work that they have completed this year. This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to get together and celebrate the first six months of 2016! A crèche will operate in the Library from 3:30pm. We would appreciate if siblings were not present at the conferences. This allows you to focus on your child and their conference. Prep 2018 Enrolments If you have a child who will be starting Prep in 2018 we are now accepting enrolments. Enrolment packs are available at the office. We would appreciate enrolment forms in by August 4th. Mini Disney Concert Next Thursday 29th June, the Preps, Grades 1 and 2 will present a small concert to celebrate their term of dance. Each class will perform a small dance from the many wonderful musical pieces from Disney. No costumes are required. The concert will start at 2.30pm in the assembly area. Everyone is invited to come along and watch. End of Term Arrangements Next Friday (30th June) is the last day for Term 2. Students will be dismissed at 2:15pm. The buses will run their normal routes but will leave at 2:10pm. RI There will be no Religious Instruction on Monday 26th June and Monday 17th July. RI will recommence in Term 3 on Monday 24th July. STUDENTS OF THE WEEK Curriculum Day Our next Curriculum day will be held on Wednesday August 23rd. No students will be required at school on this day. Athletic Sports Our Athletics Sports are fast approaching. This year due to the increased numbers at our school we will be moving the event to the athletics track at the Aerodrome ovals. The athletics day will be held on Tuesday 25 th July. Students will need to wear appropriate sports clothing and HOUSE colours for the day. Parents will need to organise to drop their children off to the athletics track at the Aerodrome ovals and sign them in with their classroom teachers by 8.50am. There will be no staff on site at school on this day. NO busses will be available to transport students from the school. Students can then be collected and signed out at 3.15pm from the ovals. The day will start with the opening welcome and reading of the oaths at 9.00am. The students will then break into their year level groups and commence their events by 9.15am. Year level and monster relays will round up the day s events starting at 2.15pm followed by the closing assembly. A full timetable for the day will be in the Term 3 Week 1 newsletter. We would love to see as many parents as possible supporting their children on the day. PE and Sport practice All students have been practising the various athletics events during P.E. classes and classroom sport over the past three weeks. As we will be practising these sports a lot more over the next couple of weeks, it would helpful if the children could wear suitable clothing and footwear every day. School Council The next meeting of the School Council will be on Wednesday 26th July at 6:00pm in the staffroom. 4 Our water is precious! In 3T we have been investigating water pollution and the impact it has on our environment. Over the past three weeks we have been observing six different science experiments and discussing the changes that occur over time. The types of pollutants we have investigated are; SOFT PLASTIC, STYROFOAM, FERTILISER, OIL, FOOD SCRAPS, CARDBOARD AND PAPER. We made these conclusion from our experiments; Oil rose to the top of the jar and floated. Oil needs to removed from water to get rid of it. Cardboard broke down into smaller pieces. Styrofoam did not change at all and floated to the top. Fertilizer dissolved into the water and made it very murky and it turned the water to a brown colour. Food scraps broke down and made the water cloudy. Plastic did not change at all. It looked like it was ice in the water and was hard to see. Facts... Cardboard and paper = 2 weeks to break down Plastic = 450 years to break down Plastic bags = 20 years to break down Styrofoam = 80 years to break down Aluminium = years to break down Cigarette butt = 1-5 years to break down Tin can = 80 years to break down Irymple South Primary School Newsletter - Issue 19, Week 10, Term 2,

7 ART with Mrs Lord The Art Room has been very busy this term. We have created some awesome art work. Students have been involved in the planning and presentation of their art. During the first three weeks of Term 3, there will be an exhibition of work created during this term. Preps & Grade 1s The students created a woven fish. They then used their creative thinking skills and knowledge of art techniques and materials to display their fish. Grades 2-4 We looked at the work of Vincent Van Gogh. There is currently an exhibition of his work at the National Gallery of Victoria. His work has been displayed in the four seasons. The students created their own artworks in the style of Van Gogh. They selected a season that they wished to represent and made their work reflect this season. Grades 5 & 6 The students used a variety of materials to create an Apple Collage. The students reflected on their Artistic Ability and how this helped them with their collage. Irymple South Primary School Newsletter - Issue 19, Week 10, Term 2,
