This is a sponsorship based fundraiser, and we re looking to raise $10,000 for student resources such as new furniture for our soon to be refurbished classrooms at ISC. The CUA School Fun-Run is a healthy fundraiser that we hope you ll get behind. The event sends the right message to students about having fun while getting involved and being active. We re looking for all students to participate and we re organising a great day for our community, so we d love our parents and friends to come down on the afternoon. Keep your eyes peeled for the sponsorship forms which will be sent home with your child. Thanks for supporting your child s wellbeing and we hope to see you at school for the event. Rebecca McClure and Jacquie Garrigan SPORTS REPORTS: Year 9 & 10 Girls Interschool Cricket Girls Cricket was back in action again on Tuesday 24 th November at Aerodrome Ovals, with I.S.C fielding an excited team ready to take on the competition. The team competed in three pool matches across the day, playing against Merbein, Henderson and Red Cliffs college, with big hopes of making the finals. The team got off to a slow start against Merbein who had a quality state player dominating with bat and ball for them. In our second match the girls asserted their dominance over Henderson and controlled the game from start to finish, only to replicate the same onslaught against Red Cliffs in game three. With two wins under their belt the girls went into the semi-finals against the top placed side from pool A, Trinity college. The girls were hesitant at first but after a quality bowling display from all they restricted their opponents to only 66 runs. The game was in the bag after 5 overs due to some big hitting and clever running between the wickets. ISC entered the grand final as underdogs as they faced Merbein again. Unfortunately things didn t go to plan in the first innings with some wayward bowling and big hitting from Merbein s single dominant player. The girls fought bravely with the bat and made a late charge to almost rope in their opponents. All the girls who competed on the day are to be commended for their efforts and high level of sportsmanship shown. Best players on the day included Chloe Barker, Fiona Henry, Brianna Hibberd and Louisa Stevens. Mr. Hughes Game 1: ISC 5/60 DEF BY Merbein 5/100 Game 2 ISC 5/198 DEF Henderson 9/61 Game 3 ISC 5/141 DEF Red Cliffs 5/65 Semi Final ISC 2/135 DEF Trinity 2/76 Grand Final ISC 5/117 DEF BY Merbein 3/146
4 PAGE 4 Interschool Basketball Year 7/8 Girls Unfortunately, we did not come away with a win on the day, but they tried their little hearts out all day. They were able to improve each game and played their best game at the end of the day, which was a great high to finish on. Best player for the day was Allysha Hicks. Year 7/8 Boys In a team made up of mostly Year 7, the Interschool Basketball tournament was always going to be about team development. The team should be extremely proud of their efforts as they played throughout the day with great team spirit and determination. After going down narrowly to TLC in a gripping match the boys came out a little flat against Red Cliffs. The team never really got their offense going and were well beaten in the end by a classy outfit. We finished the tournament with a victory over Coomealla in a shortened match. The students are already looking forward to next year as this team shows a lot of potential for the future. Year 9/10 Girls Wow, these girls really came out to play basketball on this day. They played as a team and were able to assist each other throughout the entire day. They were just too strong and won all of their games by at least 20 points. They eventually won their grand final match by 25 points, but it wasn t as easy as they first thought considering they were down at half time. A big thank you to Connor Irwin and Christine Caminitti who coached the girls on the day. Year 9/10 Boys What a great combination of boys, age, height, speed and skill. They worked together as a team, pressing and running fast breaks for the most part of the day. The boys defeated Trinity, Red Cliffs and Merbein to face off against St Joseph s in the Grand Final. We had several parents support from the sideline throughout the day, which was fantastic, as they got to witness their boys fight til the end, to win by a goal just before the siren. They now look forward to playing in Bendigo next Thursday. Girls Basketball Teams Yr 7/8 Above 7 & Yr 9/10 Below Boys Basketball Teams Yr 7/8 Above 7 & Yr 9/10 Below
5 PAGE 5 Northern Zone Hockey Bendigo It was an early morning start for our hockey teams to make our way to Bendigo to contest the Northern Zone competition. Our boys had their first game against St Arnaud. They played a great team game with the ball moving around the pitch well. By the half time break, the boys were up and setting up well in attack each time the ball came their way. The defence kept the ball out of their zone and the boys ended up with the win. 4 goals to 0. Our girls had the next game. After an unsettled start the girls found their feet and dominated the play keeping the ball up in their attack for most of the game. With some great passing and a strong defensive back line, the girls kept the pressure for both halves with all of our players shinning in their roles on the field. The end score showed their great team game with a 9 to 0 score line. This was their only game so they came away with the win. The boys then had their next game against Crusoe. It was an amazing game to watch with equally amazing skill on both sides. Zac in our goals denied Crusoe time after time much to the disappointment of their coach. With our strong defence, the ball kept being pushed forward and we had just as many shots on goal but with no result. The end score was 0 to 0. This meant that Crusoe won they day as they won on goal difference. On hearing, this our boys did us proud and gave Crusoe a huge round of applause to congratulate them. It was a wonderful display of great sportsmanship. Both teams did our school very proud playing in the spirit of good sports and backing each other up each step of the way. It was a long day and they all got off the bus happy at a great days effort. A big thanks to the parents who had to drop their kids off at 5 in the morning. To Rochelle, a parent, who came to assist me with the two teams on the day. A massive thanks to Steve Morrish for getting us organised. Well done to all our players who played the #TheIrympleWay. The girls are looking forward to the next stage - State Finals. We will keep you updated. Kara Taylor
