2 THE BEST SHOOTERS TRUST Liquid Image Inc. A NEW GENERATION TRAP IS BORN DOWNLOAD THE WESHOOT APP TO LEARN HOW IT WORKS CALL LAPORTE AMERICA FOR MORE INFORMATION Ladies and Gentlemen, On behalf of the NSCA I would like to personally welcome all competitors, sponsors, vendors, family, and friends to the 2017 National Sporting Clays Championship! Now that all main event courses have the same number of targets (75), we have added a new feature this year the Golden Ticket. You will be able to earn one ticket for each of those single targets that you hit which will get you into a drawing to win guns and other great prizes. Thank you to Elite Shotguns for generously sponsoring this new game. Several event locations have changed since this year s World English, so be sure to check your maps and familiarize yourself with the new locations. Please join me this week in congratulating all of the 2017 NSCA Hall of Fame inductees and award recipients. The inductees for shooting achievements are Mark Boo Dykes and Bonnie McLaurin, and our own Peter Masch will be receiving the du Pont Service award. This year s banquet will be held on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott Sea World. Please see Lori Hartmann in registration to purchase your tickets if you have not already done so. Friday morning, we will again be hosting the Ladies Tour for our lovely guests who are not shooting and would like to visit the New Braunfels and Gruene areas. There are 23 seats available. The tour includes a stop at one of the local vineyards for a tour and wine tasting. The bus will leave at 8:15 a.m. and return at 4:30 p.m. Visit Lori Hartmann in registration for more details and to purchase your tickets. Also new this year will be our Ladies Day-In Program and Shooting Clinic, made possible by Blaser USA, Fiocchi, and the NSCA. The event is Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. with lunch and shooting included. Please see Glynne Moseley at the NSCA-USASCT trailer if you are interested in joining in on the fun. ing Ceremonies will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the stadium field. Immediately following, we will not only be drawing for one of the USA Sporting Clays Team Raffles a K-80 San Remo Shotgun but we will kick off the annual Top Gun Shoot-Out as well. This year s Top Gun event is sponsored by Shooting Glass Specialist, Blaser USA and the NSCA. Multiple prizes and awards will be given away including guns, but you must be present to win. This will be an event you won t want to miss! Saturday night, the North vs. South Challenge returns to the stadium. Make sure you stick around to cheer for your favorite shooters and for a chance to win guns and other giveaways! During the shoot-out, we will also be drawing for the USA Sporting Clays Team Blaser F3 Black Scroll as well as the two E-Z-Go Golf Carts. We are excited to have the Golden Target scavenger hunt back this year! Keep your eyes peeled as you drive around looking for the hidden Golden Target. Sign up for the Golden Target text message updates and follow NSCA on Facebook for the clues to play along and win prizes from MEC such as trap machines and reloaders, as well as guns and other prizes from NSCA. Thank you to MEC Shooting Sports for sponsoring the Golden Target event again and for joining the NSCA in giving out great prizes for those individuals that find the hidden targets. Last, but surely not least, Kolar Arms will continue the tradition of awarding a Championship Ring not only to the National Champion, but to the Sub-Gauge National Champion as well. Special thanks to Kolar for their generous donation to the National Championship and for their continued support of shotgun sports around the country. Remember that our sponsors are a critical part of the National Championship and the NSCA. Our continued success is due in large part to their participation as well as all of yours. Please be sure to stop by and visit all of our vendors during your stay in San Antonio; you might just find something you didn t realize you needed until you see it. At the same time, shoot management will be strategically positioned to monitor the approaching storm for lightning and any other potential dangerous elements. At first sight of lightning (by and/or relayed to any shoot staff), a cease-fire will be called immediately via PA system and by shoot management to each field where PA is not available. All fields will be cleared of both participants and staff, with all taking cover in available areas, i.e.: Club House, Vendor Buildings, vehicles, etc. Shoot management will continue to monitor lightning strikes, starting a new time clock with each observed strike. At the duration of 20 minutes with no strikes, shoot management will begin the process of returning participants to the field(s) to continue with shooting. By starting this process at 20 minutes, the total elapsed time from the last strike until shooting begins is anticipated to be 30 or more minutes. The above process will be repeated for any and all storms/lightning strikes observed. In the event of any other dangerous elements of an approaching storm, such as extremely high winds/ tornado or hail, the same cease-fire and field evacuation procedures as above will be implemented as soon as the danger is realized. 13 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS Brock Allen Scholarship winner Brock Allen is a recent graduate of Westwood High School in Camilla, Georgia. I am honored to have been chosen as one of the 2017 NSCA scholarship recipients, said Brock. I would like to thank all of the people who have encouraged and supported me since I began shooting in 2013 as a founding member of my high school s shotgun team. Brock says he has always enjoyed competition and has participated in many sports but found the challenge of shooting sporting clay targets to be the most enjoyable. Shortly after I began shooting, I was introduced to Coach Mike Simpson, USA Shooting Team Coach of the Year in 2014, he said. At that time, my focus was on shooting International Skeet, which I enjoyed very much. However, as I began shooting more tournaments, I found sporting clays is my favorite clay target sport. This interest led me to another great coach and Hall of Fame member, Bill McGuire. I have been very fortunate to learn from the best and owe much of my success to these coaches, as well as a number of other shooters who have educated and encouraged me along the way. Brock also expressed appreciation to his parents, Gary and Mary Lynn Allen. His dad coached his high school team and took him to tournaments all over the country, including to the National Sporting Clays Championship in San Antonio the past two years. Competing in C class at Nationals in 2015, Brock was runner-up in the main event and Krieghoff Kup, and first place in FITASC, 20 and 28 gauge events, and 28-gauge FITASC. These successes spurred my desire to become a better shooter, he commented. I competed heavily in my 2016 year and was before the 2016 Nationals. I shot well in the 2016 Nationals and won HOA Champion for the Krieghoff Kup with a straight 100 and a win in the shoot-off against Rick Mein. So far, this is the highlight of my shooting career. Brock will be attending the University of Alabama in the fall, where he looks forward to shooting on Alabama s shotgun team and major in finance before attending law school. His shooting goals are to become a professional shooter and to win the National Championship. Robert Estes Sporting clays has long been important to Robert Estes and his family. The 2017 high school graduate from Georgia is the grandson of Arthur Estes III, founder of Big Red Oak Plantation in Gay, Georgia, host of the 2017 U.S.. As a child, my father, Rob Estes, and my grandfather would take me to Big Red Oak and we d spend the whole afternoon shooting. This family sport brings generations together for outdoor fun and I am proud to be part of a sport that is open to a wide variety of people. Robert cites the 2015 Georgia State Championship as one of his favorite shooting memories. I was fortunate enough to be chosen to shoot in the Dick Phillips Invitational Shootout for the Sub- concurrent where I had the opportunity to be mentored by Gebben Miles, said Robert. That night I won second place in the shootout and received invaluable instruction that helped me in future competition. In 2016, as a, he was again selected for the Dick Phillips Invitational Shootout. I was up against more experienced shooters and I was very nervous. However, I shot a 10 out of 10 and tied for first place. After a second shootout, I once again came in second place for this prestigious event. These shootouts have been the highlight of my shooting career and I look forward to having more opportunities to challenge my shooting skills. In 2013, Robert s father was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer during his son s first week of high school, shaping Robert s high school experience. I am thankful for the way that sporting clays has allowed me to spend time with my father while doing something that we both enjoy. These are memories that I will never forget. In fall of 2017, Robert will enter the University of Georgia where he will study political science with a goal of graduating and attending law school. He commented, This scholarship will help me to reach my goal of becoming a contract lawyer and working with professional athletes. Perhaps one day I will even be able to work with professional shooters as the sport continues to grow and thrive. Thank you for awarding me this scholarship. I look forward to many more memories made on the sporting clays course as I continue to hone my skills and grow in this sport. SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS Meagan Elizabeth Harrington Meagan Elizabeth Harrington is a 2017 graduate of Richard King High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she was in the top 5% of her class. She lives with her mother, Melanie, and older brother, Michael. Meagan began shooting as an 8-year-old through the Texas 4-H shotgun program where she discovered her passion for pulling the trigger after watching her brother compete ahead of her. She earned the distinction of being the 7-time Texas 4-H Ladies High Over All Champion in her respective divisions (-2, Intermediate-2, Senior I-2 and Senior II-1). During her initial years shooting, Meagan was also a competitive pianist, winning an international competition that earned her a recital at the renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City. While I was there, my family stumbled upon the Beretta Gallery. It was there that I came into contact with the team manager, and when I got back to Texas, I was placed on Team Beretta USA. This opened the doors for me to learn about the National Sporting Clays Association, Meagan related. Meagan began shooting registered sporting clays targets around the age of 12. After winning her class at the Diamond Classic in 2015, she moved up to and traveled to Illinois to compete in the U.S.. Other outof-state tournaments followed, with Meagan finding herself surrounded by encouraging and positive minds that heightened the experience. I have welcomed every opportunity to travel, as it s a learning process from start to finish. This year at the Western Regional, I placed in the main, 5-stand and super sporting and made the finals match for the PSCA Tour. My mom stayed behind in Texas during this trip, but the best feeling was coming off the finals match and seeing her. One of my friends FaceTimed her during the start of the match, so I was able to see she was still supporting me from Texas. Meagan expressed her appreciation to her mother for encouraging her to be her best; to her coaches, including Steve Liberta, who provided her with a foundation to build on, and to Team Beretta USA and Team Wenig for their sponsorship and encouragement. Meagan will further her education at Texas A&M University this fall, with the ultimate goal of attending medical school. She plans to continue shooting in NSCA events and join the Texas A&M Trap and Skeet Team. Jason Silvey Jason Silvey graduated in May from Cross Roads High School in Texas, finishing in the top 10% of his class. His parents are Shannon Silvey and Curt Silvey. Jason was introduced to shotgunning in 2008 with the Henderson County 4-H Shotgun Sports Club and actively participated in the Texas 4-H shooting sports program until graduation. He credits the 4-H program with his personal growth and development of leadership skills. I participated in 4-H on a county, district, state and national level, with each of these levels building me into the person I am today. He held many 4-H leadership positions, but the one dearest to his heart was being a Texas 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador. As a member of the team of ambassadors, he said, I developed and practiced advanced leadership skills related to mentoring other youth and becoming an advocate for the shooting sports program. He was a member of the 2016 Texas 4-H Shotgun Team that represented the state program at the National 4-H Championship, bringing home six medals. Jason was the 2016 Senior II Shotgun Shootout Champion High Overall Individual and Gun Smoke Champion High Overall Individual at the Texas 4-H State Championship. In 2015, he was awarded a $10,000 scholarship in competition at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo. In 2011, Jason shot his first NSCA shoot at the encouragement of his then-coach, Mike Jennings, and since then has been a four-time All-American Team Member on Sub- and Teams. In 2016, Jason won several,, and side event awards at the U.S., Texas State Championship, and National Sporting Clays Championship. He is currently a member of the Blaser Team. Throughout high school, Jason participated in many extracurricular activities and still found time to volunteer over 450 hours to local and state community service projects. Jason commented, Participating through the NSCA has allowed me to develop my shooting beyond 4-H and allowed me to meet new friends, which are more like my family, across the U.S. and beyond. This scholarship is very special to me because of my love for the shooting sports programs and how the program has helped develop me into the person I am today. Jason will attend Sam Houston State University in the fall to earn a degree in Criminal Justice. He plans to compete with the SHSU team, as well as through the NSCA

22 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RING Donated by for presentation to: NATIONAL SPORTING CLAYS MAIN EVENT CHAMPION KOLAR RING PROGRAM Kolar Arms continues their commitment to the NSCA National Championship ring program that has been in place for over two decades. Kolar President, John Ramagli, elaborated on the history of the program and clarified the policy in place to recognize multiple year winners. The program has been in place since 1985 for NSSA Skeet and was initiated by former Kolar owner Don Mainland as a way to recognize National Champions in that sport. Phil Murray was the first person to win the NSSA ring. It was adopted for sporting clays starting in the early 1990s, but we also went back and awarded rings to the NSCA National Champions who won the Nationals before the program was in place for that sport. Ramagli said Kolar even went so far as to retrospectively award a ring to 1989 Nationals winner Jim Jamison, winner of the first ever NSCA Nationals, held at Minnesota Horse and Hunt, along with all other previous winners. In 2010 Kolar initiated a second NSCA program the Sub Gauge Championship HOA ring, which is awarded each year to the shooter who wins the combined high sub gauge score across all three gauges at the National Championship. Sub gauge shooter extraordinaire, Scott Robertson, was the first ever NSCA Sub Gauge ring recipient. Ramagli says the sub gauge ring is a very special award and has a distinctive look to it, setting it apart from the ring that is awarded for the Nationals Main Event. Ramagli explained the policy for acknowledging multiple-year Champions this way. The first time a shooter wins HOA at the Championship he is awarded a ring, which is augmented with multiple diamond chips in the ring bezel upon winning a second Championship. A third Championship earns a proportionally-sized diamond in the large stone. A second ring would be awarded upon winning a fourth Championship, should that occur. The rings are funded entirely by Kolar and are crafted by Jostens, maker of fine rings used to acknowledge championships and events by professional sports leagues like the National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Hockey League, National Basketball League and NASCAR. We ve committed to the ring program with the NSSA and NSCA for years to come, said Ramagli, after having recently re-confirmed the award guidelines and protocol with NSCA Executive Council Chairman Steve Schultz and Vice Chairman John Calandro III, who worked with Kolar to come to a common understanding of how the program will work into perpetuity. The Kolar ring program is just one example of how our industry partners try to raise the bar for our game of sporting clays, said Calandro. I am sure the top competitors will go out of their way to thank John for all of his extra sponsorship this past year. By Dana Farrell

53 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINGENCY PLAN Determining a National Champion If the main event of the National Championship is shortened due to the occurrence of any natural disaster, act of God or event beyond the direct, immediate control of the National Shooting Complex and National Sporting Clays Association the following procedure will be used to establish the National champion, runner up, and third place as well as first, second and third places in all Classes and Concurrents. 1) The total scores shot from all competitors plus the addition of 75 targets for any courses not shot will be the raw score to determine the champion, runner-up, and third place for the championship as well as first, second and third places in all Classes and Concurrents. No champion will be named unless all competitors have shot at least 150 targets. 2) Wednesday can be used to make up any day lost on either of the two day rotations, however if for any reason any rotation cannot be completed for any day, then that entire rotation will be counted as 75 targets for each competitor on each rotation. If this is to happen on one of the two day rotations, then the corresponding rotation(s) for the 4-day rotation will also be counted as 75 targets to each competitor. If one of the rotations on the 4-day cannot be completed for any reason, then the corresponding rotation on the 2-day rotations will be counted as 75 targets. 3) Ties will be shot-off or broken as if no uncontrollable occurrence has happened. 4) The shoot-off for National champion, runner-up and third place will be held, weather permitting, on Sunday of the National Championship in the Shoot-off Stadium at approximately 6:30 p.m. CST. 5) The shoot-off for first, second and third place in all Classes and Concurrents will be held, weather permitting, on Sunday of the National Championship at approximately 6:30 p.m. CST at a site to be announced. 6) If these above mentioned shoot-offs cannot be held on Sunday evening prior to 10:00 p.m. CST due to the occurrence of any natural disaster, act of God or event beyond the direct, immediate control of the National Shooting Complex and National Sporting Clays Association the champion, runner up, and third place as well as first, second, and third places for all Classes and Concurrents shall be decided by scores on (2) two pre determined tie breaker stations on a course(s) that all competitors who are tied have completed. Assuming competitors have completed the course, the pre determined tie breaker stations will be used from courses in the following order: Red, Yellow, Green, Orange. If there is still a tie after comparing scores on all possible tie breaker stations the Class and Concurrent champion, runner up, and third place will be determined by the longest run from the front on courses they have all completed following the order listed above. 7) Any shooter who is not present 10 (ten) minutes before the shoot-off shall forfeit his or her position. The position will not be filled by any alternates. 8) The shoot-off rotation will be determined by a lottery draw completed inside registration. 9) The National Champion will be the individual with the highest score. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINGENCY PLAN (CONT.) Krieghoff-Kup, 5-Stand, Compak, Small Gauge and Parcours de Chasse Events If the Krieghoff-Kup, 5-Stand, Compak, Small Gauge or Parcours de Chasse events of the National Championship are shortened due to the occurrence of any natural disaster, act of God or event beyond the direct, immediate control of the National Shooting Complex and National Sporting Clays Association the following procedure will be used to establish the open champion, runner up, and third place as well as Class and Concurrent champions from shooters who have completed the events. 1) All awards will be based on scores of competitors who complete the event. If no shooters complete the event, no awards or punches will be provided. 2) The shoot-off(s) for event champion, runner-up and third place as well as Class and Concurrent champion in each event will be held, weather permitting, on Sunday of the National Championship at approximately 6:30 p.m. CST at a site to be announced. 3) If the above mentioned shoot-off(s) cannot be held on Sunday evening prior to 10:00 p.m. CST due to the occurrence of any natural disaster, act of God or event beyond the direct, immediate control of the National Shooting Complex and National Sporting Clays Association the Krieghoff-Kup, 5-Stand, Compak, Small Gauge and Parcours de Chasse event s open champion, runner up, and third place as well as Class and Concurrent champions shall be decided by scores on (3) three rank ordered, pre determined tie breaker stations. If there is still a tie after comparing scores on all possible tie breaker stations the open champion, runner up, third place and Class and Concurrent champions will be determined by the longest run from the front of the event. 4) Any shooter who is not present 10 (ten) minutes before the shoot-off shall forfeit his or her position.
