The District Men's Group Luncheon has been going for over 10 years and is organised by activities coordinators from aged care facilities in the district including Boort, Cohuna, Kerang and Barham. Each month male residents in the hostels get to go to a different town and venue for lunch, entertainment and friendly catch-up. At Pyramid Hill, the residents made decorations to put up in the club rooms at the golf club. We had the musician David Shannon playing all the Xmas favourites, and with Jim behind the bar, and the big fire burning, there was plenty of bon homie in the room. The diners, numbering 45, enjoyed a delicious roast turkey meal and plum & cognac pudding expertly cooked by Lorraine Dingwall. The event concluded with a sing-a-long of old-time favourites. The District Men's Group Lunch will go to Barham footy sheds in August for the next monthly luncheon. Prior 'agreement' between neighbours about a fence can take precedence over the law in limited specified circumstances. 3. Rob Alexander Ring High Tea at PHC Year 9/10 Food Technology class hosted a High Tea in the staffroom on the last day of term, as part of their final assessment. Students had been researching, cooking and collecting china ready for this sumptuous event. The table was decorated with fine china, teapots, assorted teas, linen & lace, dainty morsels and beautiful background was music played by Feliz Garchitorena and Daniel Hercott. Our community guests really got into the High Tea spirit and dressed appropriately in their finery, furs and pretty hats. I think everyone would agree that it was a wonderful feast to end the term. All students in the school finished their last day by being able to select some of the tasty leftovers to eat. A huge thankyou to those member of the public who took the time to support the students in their quest to host a High Tea. Also a huge congratulations to Teagan, Olivia, Jessica, Julia, Tess and Jasmine who prepared and served all of the food. A fantastic effort by everyone!! 8 Bowls Notes The Pyramid Hill Bowling Club is delighted to make public recognition of the news that Lionel Mann was awarded the prestigious title of Pyramid Hill s Citizen of the Year, Congratulations, Lionel! This recognition is but a small token of appreciation for the mammoth amount of work that Lionel commits, not only to the Bowling Club, but also to the Football Club. Lionel is blessed with remarkable bowling skills and has achieved great success both in individual and team events, within the Club and at Association and State levels. However, it was his dedication in other areas to serve his Clubs that lead to his nomination and earned him this reward. At the Bowling Club, Lionel spends countless hours working to ensure all things run smoothly. He has held the position of Treasurer for the last six years and maintains the financial statements with integrity and thoroughness. Other areas of responsibility that he takes on board include Sponsorship, Selection Committee, Match Committee, assists with green keeping and bar management and represents the club as a Delegate in the Association where he also holds some responsibility. Perhaps one of the most important contributions Lionel makes is through his promotion of the Pyramid Hill Bowling Club by his participation in the sport at Club and District levels he is well known and highly regarded for his bowling talent and his friendly manner. This results in the willingness of many clubs to support our Club in return. There is not an area of involvement at the Bowling Club in which Lionel does not take part. Well done, Lionel! Your Club is not only appreciative of the work you do, we are proud of you! Other news Congratulations to Al who has taken possession of his new home, and come out well on the other side of a bit of bodily repair work. We hope that you enjoy living the city life and get to take things a bit easier. Only short trips for meetings, practice and play now, Al. Best wishes to a few members who are undergoing repair works. We are hoping that you all make speedy recoveries and will soon be fit and out on the greens at the beginning of the new season with all parts working well following their grease and oil changes. Sincere condolences to Joan and her family as we offer them our support on the passing of esteemed former member, John. Best wishes to Club Member, Murray, who has taken up residence in the Hostel. We know that you will be comfortable and well looked after in your new home, Murray, and thank you for your support of our Club over many, many years both as a player and as caretaker of the lawns. Now to Business: Weather permitting, we will be holding another Working Bee next Tuesday, 21 st July 9:00am in an effort to make further headway on the replacement of the ditch surfacing. Anyone who can come and lend a hand for an hour or two will be most appreciated. If you can bring a drill that is also useful. Morning tea is guaranteed to be delicious. Pyramid Hill Butchery Tournament: Would you believe it is already time to be getting out those bowls and polishing them up??!!! Really!!! I feel like my bowls are just beginning to cool their jets! Our first tournament for the season kicks off on Sunday 2 nd August with an Any Combination Triples event commencing at 12:00. Thanks very much to Paul for his generous sponsorship of this event. Hopefully the weather has warmed up a bit by then and is a little more inviting for outdoor activity. See you there. 11 Pyramid Hill Netball Bridgewater vs Pyramid Hill - July 11th 13 & Under: We know netball is a winter sport but the weather was ridiculous. Under difficult conditions our girls braved the weather to play very well. At each quarter super coach Rowan mixed the girls right up but they still played well against a much smaller Bridgewater side. Super coach Rowan did a great job of coaching and we will look forward to seeing Deb back next week hopefully. We hope she is feeling better. Burke Family Award - Isabelle Caspani Encouragement Award - Everyone! 15 & Under: As the girls took to the court whilst it poured with rain, it was very slow in the first quarter. Due to slippery court and ball, our passes were not very distant as the ball would slip like butter in our hands. A very slow start was shown to the girls with a score of 2-1; Bridgey leading by 1. As the day brightened and storm and rain clouds were well away, the girls pushed through leading at some points - but he Bridgewater girls came through and won by four goals. Final score: Pyramid 14 - Bridgewater 18 Hampson's Mobile Sheep Dipping Award - Olivia Hampson 17 & Under: The rain cleared slightly for the 17's to take the court. After a good start, team motivation and effort seemed to be lacking. Close quarters and half time margins left the opportunity for a win dangling. but in the end we couldn't get there, Bridgewater's accurate goaling and intense chases in the slippery weather gave them the upper hand. Heads up girls, training hard and bring on YCW. Final score: Pyramid 31- Bridgewater 34 Pyramid Bakery/Cafe Award - Emily Stewart C Grade: On a very cold and wet day the girls set to the court. A strong defence saw the girls bring the ball down the court and into the ring. Bridgewater played strong and took the lead. We all feel the score didn't reflect the great game our girls played. It was a fun game with lots of laughs. Final score: Bridgewater 42- Pyramid Hill 7 Award: Anne Gibson B Grade: Wet conditions saw sloppy play down the court. Despite the weather, Pyramid Hill got it together and managed to keep a close margin. Thanks to Ab and Morgan for making sure we had a team! Sadly we farewell our coach next week as she heads to warmer and sunnier conditions! Thank you Kirb for all your enthusiasm and willingness to take us under your wing. It has been wonderful to have someone watching over us and directing our energies where needed. We wish you all the best in your new venture. Thank you Kirby. Pyramid Hill 36 - Bridgewater 48 Award: Georgia Bartels A Grade: In very wintry conditions both teams came out strong. Pyramid kept the lead through the game, although Bridgewater fought hard in the last half. Pyramid were lucky with the win! 12 Pyramid Hill Football Report Pyramid Hill vs Bridgewater We headed down the Loddon Valley Highway full of confidence and optimism and ready to take on ladder leaders Bridgewater. Things didn t quite work to plan as we quietly cruised home with our tail between our legs in all three football games and the only highlight of the day was the exciting A Grade netball victory and the beautiful rainfall that brightened every farmer s day. 18 s In driving rain and freezing temperatures the boys slugged it out against Bridgy. Early on Pyramid had a majority of the play but didn't make it count on the scoreboard, going into quarter time 8 points down. After being told to keep things simple the boys responded well with Mitch Dingwall scoring our only goal for the match. As the game wore on Bridgewater gained control of the clearances and peppered the scoreboard for much of the second half. The boys didn't throw in the towel and fought the contest out, eventually going down by a few goals. Kieren put his head over the footy all game to be our best player with Stevie, Blake, Mitch and Josh all contributing well over the 4 quarters. Final Score: Pyramid Hill 1:7:13 lost to Bridgewater 3:10:28 Goal Kicker: G James 1 Best Players: Millers Ag Award: K Shelley, Pyramid Bakery Cafe Award: S Gunther, Coffee Bank Award: B O Toole, Special Awards: J Kervin, Other Awards: M Dingwall, J Fernandez, Z Dingwall Reserves The Ressies as usual came out looking a lot different to how the side was read out on Thursday night. But to the boys credit they didn t let that or the weather effect their enthusiasm. Although the scoreboard at every break showed the opposition to be well on top, the team never stopped trying. As much as the final score wasn t flattering the boys still remained upbeat and positive. Congratulations to Pete Gargan on his return from injury and a big thanks to the thirds boys who partially froze just to help out on the day. Good news for the day was those Ressies who passed the shower IQ test a luxuriously hot shower was to be had. Score: Under 18 s 1 Ressies 0 Final Score: Pyramid Hill 4:4 lost to Bridgewater 16:9:105 Goal Kickers: Best Players: Bridge Hotel Award: N Fitzpatrick, Victoria Hotel Award: M Moon, Other Awards: D Tonkin, J Amos, D Mann, C Leerson, P Gargan, M Dingwall, N Moon Seniors Well what can be said about the game on Saturday. The top 2 teams ventured out on the park and we failed to turn up and with credit to Bridgewater they ran hard all day and played a great game in freezing conditions. A good friend of mine once said that if you can t find something good to say, you re probably best to say nothing at all! Let s get ourselves back up again this week and come out firing against YCW at home. Go dogs! Final Score: Pyramid Hill 6:7:43 lost to Bridgewater 15:21:111 Goal Kickers: F Brancatisano 2, D Bzenic 2, P Grayling 1, B Morison 1 Best Players: Bridge Hotel Award: B Morison, Victoria Hotel Award: D Morison, La Piazza Award: J Anderson, Other Awards: D Bzenic, M Dundon, J Wishart, L Davies, B Fawcett, M Callinan The club would like to thank those thirds players who braved the Antartic Vortex last Saturday and assisted the Senior and Ressie teams through boundary umpiring, team runner and drinks boys. Without these boys our club could not function so successfully. Congratulations to our Under 18 s star Steven Gunther who was the only Loddon Valley Football League player to be selected in the AFL Central Victorian Under 16 team to play against the AFL Barwon side. Although the team did not come away with a win Steven played a solid game in the backline and secured himself plenty of game time. This week after the game stick around and enjoy a Parma tea followed by the kick off of the highly entertaining PHFNC IPOD SHUFFLE NIGHT! There's only 50 songs available for purchase so see Patrick Monaghan or Georgia Bartels to secure your chance to win $1500 ASAP.
