Tania is an extremely dedicated citizen of Pyramid Hill and the surrounding districts where she has always lived. Tania makes time to support her fellow citizens, no matter what their need may be. The Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon fundraising program and the Royal Children s Hospital Good Friday Appeal are two events in which Tania plays a major organisational role and is a driving force to ensure that as much money as possible is raised to support these worthy causes. Tania has held leading positions in the Lions Club over many years and is always ready to be involved in the various projects undertaken, including working with other district Lions Clubs where assistance is required such as the Driver Reviver at Easter time out on the highway. The collection and distribution of furniture to needy people in our town is also a Lions project in which Tania is very involved. Tania has been instrumental in arranging Community Garage Sales in Pyramid Hill and surrounds, and the second successful sale was held earlier this year. 2 Pyramid Hill Bowling Club The Annual General Meeting for 2014 was held last Wednesday evening with only a small gathering of staunch supporters in attendance. President Marie opened the meeting by recapping many of the positive highlights of the previous season, noting in particular the work done by the Catering Committee, the Greens Committee and the Board members. Our new uniforms have accumulated many compliments and our freshly painted facilities, along with the installation of the swampi system (thanks, Ian) have enhanced the comfort and décor. Although the Club cannot claim many accolades in terms of match play success, its members can certainly take pride in the way the Club has progressed in terms of community involvement and service and in the way the Club profile has developed. As with most clubs, there is a very hard working and dedicated core of people who are the driving force, but the Bowling Club can register much of its success due to the corporate involvement of its members. Financial reports which had been audited for accuracy (thanks, Joan) demonstrated that the Club is in a sound position financially. All members who previously held office were sincerely thanked for their contributions, especially for their willingness to manage and encourage input from others to assist in the implementational duties of the various sub-committees. The positions were then declared vacant and the election of Board Members for the next twelve months was conducted with the following outcomes: R. Dates for Club Tournaments were put forward for the coming season. Memberships ($100) will be required to be paid prior to eligibility to play. Other business included a review of bar prices, the acceptance of new memberships and the appointment of Jan Leed as Welcoming Officer, Glenys Broad as First Aid Officer and Marie Noelker as Reporter. The meeting ended with President, Marie N, thanking everyone for their attendance and willingness to take on roles of responsibility and wishing the Club a profitable, successful and happy year. These revaluations take place every two years and affect the rateable value of the properties under the jurisdiction of local councils. In Loddon s case, Council uses a contractor to undertake the work, but the Valuer-General has to certify that work as appropriate and must accept the proposed data as correct for every property in the Shire. Changes in valuations are supported by sales evidence where there are enough sales, but, if not, valuers fall back on established parameters. These latest valuations will be used as the basis for rating properties in the next two financial years. Loddon uses the capital improved valuation when levying rates and charges. 9 More District History Part 21 By Ern Ferris contd The summary of repairs is as follows ; -- West Riding, 50 pounds, West and Central 55, Central 364 East 511, total 980 pounds. There will be 8 drays put on today to put the township in order which existed before the flood, the work comprising repairs to roads and footpaths. It is estimated that the work will occupy a fortnight. Mologa Meeting. September 1909: A public meeting was held at the State School Mologa To discuss the damage done by the recent flood and to consider the best means of obtaining relief for those who have lost so heavily. A fair number were present and Mr J Carlyon, JP. was voted to the chair. Mr Carlyon said he called the meeting for the purpose of bringing the sufferers by the flood together, and also the sympathisers, to talk the matter over. It was not necessary for him to state the amount of damage done, as they could see for themselves; but he hoped the Murray Government would be prepared to grant them compensation for their losses It was the works that the Government had constructed that caused the loss and they ought to be made to pay for it. The flood of 1870 was a big one as he knew from his own knowledge, but not nearly so severe as the recent one and he hoped that the meeting would decide on some course of action. Mr R Jones moved;-- that this meeting of residents of the Mologa district respectfully draw the attention of the Hon the Minister of Water supply to the very severe losses sustained by all farmers, graziers, and others through the floods caused by the bursting of the Laanacoorie Weir. In many cases homes were completely wrecked, and nearly all stock drowned, and request that he send-up an officer to inspect and report, and to urge that sufferers be granted monetary assistance by the Government In speaking to the resolution, Mr Jones said he did not agree with the chairman that the Government were legally liable for the flood damage, and considered it would be a very unwise thing for them to go to law as they would only lose money and gain nothing. Whilst expressing full sympathy with the sufferers from the flood, he thought the best course would be to make a claim on the Department and appeal to the generosity of the Government for some compensation to assist them rebuild. A person had only to look around and see the great damage done to houses and grass, and we also knew the big loss of stock, more particularly sheep, small cattle, pigs, and poultry. If they could send up an officer he would be given full information. People got no waring of Laanacoorie having burst and that was a very grave mistake, and, in future should be rectified so that people could prepare Seconded by Mr A Blow and Carried. September A Deputation from the Laanacoorie district on Wednesday waited on the Minister of Water Supply, claiming 5,000 pound damagers for flooding caused by the bursting of the weir, and objecting to the reconstruction of the work. The Minister replied that the board had been appointed tom enquire into cases of loss. He could not agree with the proposal against the reconstruction of the weir. Mr Elwood Mead chairman of the Water Commission was looking into this question, and when rebuilt there would be no fear of a similar collapse occurring again. The weir would be safely constructed. They could depend on sympathetic treatment from the Government. Report to East Loddon Shire Council. September The inspector of nuisances, north and south ridings, reported that the north riding was clear of anything in the shape of a nuisance. No doubt they knew that the recent flood had caused a great loss amongst stock, particularly ewes and lambs in the eastern portion of the south riding, the principal sufferers being East Loddon. Albert Park and Auchmore Estates, and also Mr Gittens of Pompappeil. 10 BLJ BUILDING Brendan James New homes, renovations, extensions, contracting Mobile: Home: BK TALBOT Transport DBU Livestock Grain Gypsum Gravel Hay Bali Masters Nines Football Championships The Waratah Bulldogs finished third in the Masters Nines Football Championships held in Indonesia on the Queen s Birthday weekend. The team started strongly in their first game against the Borneo Bears winning by 4 goals, Graham Ballis and Barry Dingwall linking up well like they used to 35 years ago in the Pyramid Hill Under 17's. The next game was against the Bali Geckos which resulted in a hard fought 14 point victory. Bruce McCahon was a stand out, getting the ball in the backline and kicking it deep into the forward line -which is probably not too hard on a soccer ground, but was a pleasure to watch. The Dubai Dingoes were the next opponents and a good team effort saw the Waratahs Bulldogs have a 6 goal victory. Coach, Anthony Hoban, had the team peaking at the right time, but their first final was against the in-form United Singapore Sharks, which are a combination of ex-afl/ SAFL players and have a population of 6.9 million people to pick from. The game resulted in the boys going down fighting to the eventual premiers by 11 points. The highlight was full back Tony Pearson playing on the Singapore Sharks full forward, who was named player of the carnival, and giving him a football lesson. The team would like to thank all our helpers including water ladyboys Nato 'full' moon and Brad 'disco' Driscoll, and team motivator jimmy 'Heineken' Hoban. Training and recruiting has already started for next June s campaign where the team will be back bigger and better. 11 Pyramid Hill Netball Report YCW vs Pyramid Hill A Grade In slippery conditions both teams found it hard to move quickly down the court. YCW adapted well and led at the first quarter. With some position changes, pyramid kept at it with some nice play throughout the next 2 quarters. This week we welcomed Kate Donehue to the team who fitted straight in and played a great game. YCW was too tough in the end and ran away with the lead. Good try girls. Final score YCW 48- Pyramid 31 Award-Emily Streader B Grade We headed to Flora Hill on Friday night for a late night match against YCW. The first quarter saw YCW get away to a quick lead while Pyramid struggled to find their feet. A solid second quarter start saw Pyramid break a few goals to reduce YCW's lead. Round 11 June 28th Mitiamo vs Pyramid Hill AWAY Round 12-5th July - Pyramid Hill - Bye With a solid attack however, YCW continued their strong form until the final quarter and came away with a convincing win. Better luck next week B grade! Final score YCW 50- Pyramid 20. Award Hayley Hipwell C Grade A great improvement on the last game against YCW for the C grade girls. It was a slow start for Pyramid but they continued to try hard for the whole game. The wet conditions at YCW made it slippery. Luckily no one was hurt. It was a good effort by C grade. Final score YCW 69- Pyramid 20. Award Kristy Fawcett 17 & Under On wet slippery courts, the girls started slowly and struggled to adjust to the conditions. It was nice to have our full 17 & U team fit and available for today's game after a number of injuries. YCW got off to a stronger start to have a handy lead by half time. The girls stepped it up in the second half. Final score YCW 38- Pyramid 31. Award - Abbey Dingwall 15 & Under The cold and damp conditions at YCW were out to test our girls today. A wet court and slippery ball proved a bit tough in the first quarter. A couple of changes made in the second quarter gave the girls much more of the play. The girls were starting to run out of puff in the 3rd with no interchange this week. The damp ball proved to difficult for the girls today. Great effort girls. Final score YCW 33- Pyramid 17 Award - Olivia Hampson Minis Our young girls had an early start at YCW this week with cold damp weather. The team was a couple of players short and called on 2 of the young U 15's players. Thanks girls for helping out. The girls found it a bit different playing on the wet courts. It was difficult to pull up on the wet courts resulting in a number of steps. We'll done girls, you all played a great game. Hope you all managed to keep warm for the rest of the day. 12 Pyramid Hill Football Club YCW vs Pyramid Hill Last week s trip to YCW saw the U 17 s record another win although they had to work and bit harder than in previous weeks, the reserves put up another good showing but once again the boys fell and little short albeit not for lack of effort, while the seniors fell over the line in a game they never looked like winning. Before we go too far into the footy I would like to point out an extraordinary decision made at board level during the week. As I understand it the next three grand finals will be played at Marong, people will have different opinions on the positives and the negatives of this decision, but the extraordinary part is the decision was made with little or no consultation with the 9 major stakeholders of the league (the clubs). The league is made up of small community based clubs and the push to centralise all and sundry to a major city has not worked in other industries or countries. This is a personal opinion and not that of the PHFC. U 17 s Final scores Pyramid Hill Def YCW Goal kickers- Not provided; although Fitzy is claiming he finished with 13. Go Figure!!!
