1 The Hearl Herald The Hearl Herald Melvin E. Hearl Post No th St N. Moorhead, MN Phone: Fax: DECEMBER 2018 COMMANDERS CORNER AUXILIARY NEWS MIKE S MEANDERINGS Here we are last month of 2018 and what a month it looks to be! We start out with a Joint Christmas Party for little tykes of Veterans, Active Military, Guard and reserve units. More information is printed within newsletter. Baseball breakfast, Christmas Eve activities, New Year's Eve and Day activities also listed within. Please keep the Herald close at hand as to keep track of everything happening at your Post. Haven't been out to your Post lately? Well then you haven't seen the tremendous job of decorating our staff and volunteers did. Stop in and pass out a few compliments to those responsible. It is definitely a sign of the holiday ahead of us. Our entire staff and management wishes everyone a joyous and Merry Christmas and a very prosperous New Year! Mike, This time of year we want to make sure we keep all our Men and Women in uniform in thoughts and prayers. COMMANDERS CORNER The holiday season is here. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. November was busy with Veterans Day activities honoring those who served our great country. We owe a great debt to these veterans and we should remember them all year long. There will be a joint Children's Christmas party with our Legion and the Dilworth VFW. This party will be held at the VFW on Saturday, nd December 2 from 5PM to 7 PM. I have extended an invitation to the Churches United for the Homeless to join us for this party. Be safe during the Christmas season and remember Who this season is really about. For God and Country Les Forman, Commander AUXILIARY NEWS I want to start with a big thank you to those who helped make our Fall Craft- Vendor Show and Bake Sale a big success. Whether you participated with the planning, advertising, set up, paid for space as a crafter or vendor, worked with the bake sale or lunch, contributed baked items or enjoyed the day as a customer, your contribution is very much appreciated. This has been an excellent fundraiser for our organization and a tremendous help in funding many Auxiliary projects to help our veterans, locally and those deployed, Fargo VA patients, Girls State, scholarships, Americanism programs in our schools, many community service activities, and the list goes on. I have been proud to work on this fundraiser since we started it over 20 years ago, but it's time for me to retire. One item on the agenda for our December meeting is finding people who are willing to keep this fundraiser going or whether it will have to end. If you are not able to attend our December meeting, please give me a call with any ideas you may have, whether for keeping this fundraiser going or replacing it with something new. Membership is moving ahead nicely. If you have not yet paid your dues, please consider doing so and encourage any relatives, neighbors or friends who may be eligible to join. Attend a meeting and bring a prospective member to find out what our organization is all about. There is something for everyone. We have a steak dinner gift certificate as a door prize at every meeting thanks to our bar manager, Mike Carney. Remember, junior dues for birth through age 17 are only and junior members definitely make a difference. We need to get our young people involved if we are going to keep our organization growing. As we gather with family and friends to celebrate the holidays, let's remember to keep our active duty military and their families in our prayers. Our next meeting is Monday, December 3. We w i l l b e g i n w i t h a p o t luck/christmas party at 6:00 followed by a short meeting. Instead of having a gift exchange, it was decided we will bring items to donate to the food pantry. Please join us for a fun evening and get to know your fellow Auxiliary members. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! Judy Carpenter Unit 21 President jucarpenter@earthlink.net
