1 SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS The 2018 School Drama Production has come to a close! The original show of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was performed on the 22nd and 23rd of November, made up of a cast of 23 very talented students from Year 3 to Year 8. The play told the story of a young princess who, after running away from her vain and cruel stepmother, met seven little dwarfs who welcomed her into their home and protected her from evil. But little did she know that she had also captured the attention of a handsome prince! The cast and crew all did a marvellous job of presenting the production to captivated audiences comprised of students and the local community, and performed with professionalism and maturity beyond their years! Special thanks to Matthew Gordon, Kim Tipper, Julie Wall, Pauline Crisp, Ani Winchester, and all the staff and parents who assisted with bringing the production to life - we could not have done it without you! 2 YEAR 7 HASS The Year 7 HASS class participated in a whole class mock trial for their Civics and Citizenship unit. This formed part of their main assessment and was a very rewarding activity for everyone! Students also spent time working in small groups to create board games based on the units of study that they have covered during the year such as Ancient History, Geography, Government and Business. Once completed, the students had a fun filled (and noisy) afternoon trying out their creations. It was a relevant, productive and a enjoyable way to end the year. These Year 7 students have impressed many of their teachers with how very skilled in working cooperatively together they have become throughout the year. Mrs Williams Year 7 HASS Page 2 of 27

3 BEACH CARNIVAL At the 2018 Beach Carnival, there were three years attending! The activities of the day were organised by the Year 11 s in which the Year 9 s and 10 s thoroughly enjoyed. Groups were made within the Year 9 s and 10 s where they could then interchange between the four different activities prepared. Two were done by each group for 30 minutes for the first part of the day. The activities included a beach body workout, where most students felt tired after the warmup, beach volleyball, capture the flag and sandcastle making. The students then had free time where some relaxed in the sand and others swam in the cold, wave filled water at Sorrento Beach. The other two activities were then completed where some Year 10 s realised it is not quite easy to make a mermaid tail out of sand. All students, and teachers then embarked for lunch at Hillary s. All students stayed responsible and represented the school well in a public area. Arriving back at Sorrento the students were appointed a task of creating a hole deep enough to fill their tallest group member, standing. After all the laughs students had a second free time. Overall, it was a well organised and good day where students participated attentively in each activity held by the Year 11 s. ~Ana Senic Year 10 Page 3 of 27

4 KRISTEN TAYLOR IN THE STATE CALISTHENICS TEAM! Congratulations to another one of our very talented students Kristen Taylor who has been selected to represent the state in the Australian Calisthenics Federation 31 st National Calisthenics Championships to be held in Perth, 10 th July to 13 th July Kristen will be competing in the Intermediate section of this competition with her team mates aged years. She is very excited and thrilled to have achieved this goal and be a part of this team. Kristen will be combining her Year 10 studies with intense training sessions beginning immediately with 6 hour sessions each Sunday, it is a huge commitment and honor to have been selected. We wish her all the very best in her preparation for the tournament! CHEERS TAYLAH MENDEZ!! We are very proud of our Year 7 student Taylah Mendez who recently competed in the Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation National Championships on the Gold Coast. With over 12, 000 athletes, 1, 400 coaches and 17, 000 spectators, this is the pinnacle event in Australian Cheerleading. Taylah Competed in the Magnitude All Girl Senior Level 3 team who finished in the top 10 of their division. Athletes from China, New Zealand, America and Australia all travelled to compete in the event. Taylah s older squad members who competed in the Blackout International All Girl Level 5 team finished 5 th overall. This is the most competitive division in Australia and we are sure that Taylah will only strengthen that side in the years to come as she aims to progress into the squad. We would like to congratulate Taylah on representing our school so well during what must have been an incredible event to witness!! JETT KORUNOVSKI IN THE STATE BASKETBALL TEAM Year 9 Student, and future superstar, Jett Korunovski has been selected to play in the state U/18 Basketball Team for Jett has an incredible work ethic and has been training for 6 hours each Sunday on top of his study and WABL commitments. The future is very bright for this young man and we wish him all the best in his Basketball endeavours. Yet another piece of individual brilliance from one of our very talented students! 5 SAG 1 SPRING NETBALL It s the end of an era for our devoted senior netball team. This season we finished third on the ladder in our very competitive Noranda Spring Netball division. It has been privilege to play in, and coach this team over the years. To see to the huge improvement each player has made has not only been rewarding for the players and the coaches but inspiring for the younger girls in the school. I hope the girls continue to play netball upon leaving St. Andrew s and come down to the courts to support, coach and umpire our next generation of players. Coach: Ms Elizabeth Stewart SAG 2 The SAG2 team comprising of Year 9, 10 and 11 girls had a competitive spring netball season. It was great to see our more experienced netball players encouraging and leading the younger girls on the court. With most of the team likely to represent St. Andrew s at GOAANSE in Adelaide next year it was an invaluable experience for them to play a season together. We re all feeling very excited by the opportunities that will be presented to us in I wish the girls the very best of luck! Coach: Ms Elizabeth Stewart SAG 3 It was a season of development for our group of enthusiastic Year 7 and 8 girls. With half of the team having not experienced a win during the winter season it was great to see the commitment the girls showed to not only games but training twice a week. Having started slowly, the girls were able to slowly turn their season around. As the season progressed, the girls began to show their full potential culminating in winning their final game against a top 4 team! I would like to congratulate them on their commitment and improvement throughout the season and am excited about what the future has in stall. A huge thank you must also go to Mrs Riehana Kheder who assisted with training our shooter and attacking players in the final two sessions. ANDREW S GRAMMAR GOAANSE SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITY 2019 Dear St Andrew s Grammar Community, We are currently seeking interest from businesses for a wonderful sponsorship opportunity to help send our Secondary School team to the 2019 Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia National School Event (GOAANSE) that will take place in Adelaide in May This event showcases the best sporting and drama students from 7 Greek Orthodox Schools in Australia in one event over the course of 3 days. In previous years, sponsorship has played a crucial role in enabling students to attend the event interstate and has been greatly appreciated by the school and our students. Our students have already began to train for the event and we are confident of producing highly competitive teams across each of the sports. In 2015, sponsorship from Westend Steelworks, Steelforce and the Limnios Property Group provided students with new playing strips, a tour polo shirt and assisted in subsidising the cost of the tour. In 2016, sponsorship from the Limnios Property Group, New West Foods, the Petrelis Group and Publicity for Profit helped provide our school with a full set of new playing strips, tour polo shirts and assisted in subsidising the cost of the tour. More than 500 students, staff and spectators from Australia s Greek Orthodox Schools are in attendance each year. We are seeking sponsorship to the value of $2000 from businesses to cover the cost of a Tour Polo Shirt, Tour Bag and to help subsidise the cost for our students. In return your company s logo will be placed on our Tour Polo Shirt, Tour Bag and also be advertised in the school s newsletter. In addition, students will be allowed to wear their Tour Polo Shirt on their designated sport uniform days at school.
