The school year is moving swiftly, and big things are happening at Tenino High School. Teacher professional development is focusing on providing more rigor in classroom instruction through quality assignments and questioning techniques that spark high-level thinking. We now have a posted, rotating schedule of when our math teachers are available for extra help and assistance, and teachers have formed focus groups to address the most critical aspects of school improvement including academic programs, communication and community involvement, instruction and professional development, and school environment and culture. This year is also the year the Tenino High School will again go through the process of accreditation. Accreditation is a formal process of being certified as a credible and authentic school. For Tenino High School, this means a rigorous process of internal and external scrutiny that includes months of preparation. The accreditation process culminates with an on-site external review conducted by educational professionals from other school districts. For us, that process is scheduled for the latter part of February. As part of our internal review, we are required to survey our parent stakeholders. Many of our parents completed the survey during conferences, but if you did not, you still have a chance to participate! Just point your web browser to: survey/public/ The survey only takes about 5 minutes, and it will give us important information that we will use to build upon for school improvement in the years ahead! We greatly appreciate your support of Tenino High School and our accreditation process. Welding 3 Class Vision & 4 Mission Sports 5 Schedule Special 5 Recognition TABC 5 Tibbetts 5 NCAA Tenino High School is holding our annual food drive now through Tuesday, December 12th. There will be a grade level competition as well as an advisory class competition. The winning advisory class will be treated to pizza and a movie in the library. The Food Drive students from the winning grade level will all be treated to doughnuts. It s good to give back to your community and help others, so make sure you participate!

2 P A G E 2 Mr. Hogue encouraging # 16 Jose Carrillo! Multimedia Design The Intro to Multimedia students just completed designing, editing and producing their own commercials. This unit taught students how color and music sway consumer choices. The students had a great time making the commercials while learning all about color theory and how music affects mood. Homecoming Week The commercials will be shown in the high school commons during both lunches through November. Way to go, Ms. Katy and her class! The theme was Alice in Wonderland, and the leadership crew did an amazing job of decorating the commons. Homecoming week gave students a chance to dress up in wild and fun outfits. Monday, students dressed up as cowboys and cowgirls. They wore cowboy hats and boots. On Tuesday they put on their poodle skirts and their leather jackets for 50 s day. Wednesday was International day, followed by senior citizen day. By the time Friday rolled around, it was time for students to show their school pride and wear their red and black! Friday night, the school gathered to put on a homecoming parade. The show was cleared to take place on Main Street. Each class had a float and some clubs and electives did as well. The homecoming court got to ride in the parade in different vehicles. Our Tenino TCYFL football players and cheerleaders joined everyone and marched in the parade. The TCYFL cheerleaders also got the chance to join our girls and cheer for part of the game. Sadly the Beavers did not triumph in the game against Montesano., but cheers to Erin and Jon for being promoted from Prince and Princess to King and Queen at the halftime ceremony! The next night, the school had their homecoming dance. The theme was Alice in Wonderland, and the leadership crew did an amazing job of decorating the commons. Students could take a breather from dancing and take a seat at the tables and get a drink of punch. Fall Sports Roundup It was an eventful fall season to the THS Beavers. The volleyball team finished in a 4-way tie for second place in the Evergreen 1A League, and due to tie breaker procedures, entered the district tournament as the #4 seed. Congratulations lady beavers for continuing on to state and finishing 9th! The Beaver football team wrapped up league play with an inspired win over rivals Rochester Warriors. The Cross Country team finished by competing in the District IV Cross Country meet. Our runners continually improved throughout the season, and are poised to ever bigger gains next year. The girls soccer team competed well this year, highlighted by two league wins against Forks. The cheer squad provided inspiration for the student athletes on the field and played a key role in our fall student pep assemblies. Special thanks to the Tenino Athletic Booster Club and the Tenino Football Boosters for all of their support during the Fall Season! The students and staff of Tenino High School truly appreciate all of your support! B E A V E R B E L I E V E R S
