2 Paw Print September 2015 Page 2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE It is hard to believe that September is here and before we know it the Fall season will be in full swing. It is also the time of year for me to celebrate another birthday. As a kid, it always seemed that my birthday took forever to come but as an adult they come too quickly. The last 335 or so days since my last birthday have brought me many tears and smiles. Tears for joyous moments and tears for trying moments where shed. I have stamped in my memory things that forever will remind me that not all journeys lead you to where you planned to go. But I have always managed to plant myself where I ended up. I may not always be beautiful roses as some times I am the prickly cactus. So my wish for the next birthday is to have laughed more than I have cried and at least have more flowers than thorns. 9 Paw Print September 2015 Page 9 September s Paw Print Family April Dyson I am a proud mom to Dolli Mae and Heidi, both Boston Terriers. Dolli Mae is almost 3 years old and Heidi is almost 2 years old. As you can tell by their pictures Dolli Mae has the usual coloring of a Boston while Heidi has a lot more white. Heidi is what they call a Splash Boston Terrier, which is the look of a Boston Terrier but more white on the body then black. Dolli Mae has the attitude and activity of an older dog while Heidi is most definitely still a puppy. Dolli Mae is an old soul I would say. I joined DTCDC 2 years ago and started with beginner classes for Dolli Mae. She is a great dog to train and I have really enjoyed all the quality time training has allowed me to spend with her. Dolli Mae is in her third beginner class and we plan on taking intermediate next session. Heidi has had one beginner class and she is more of a challenge to train then Dolli Mae, but she has been improving a lot the last couple of months. I originally joined DTCDC to help me train my dogs because I needed to learn how to become more of a leader of my pack, which at the time included an older dog and the new puppy Dolli Mae. It has really helped me a lot with learning how to reward the dogs the correct way and also how to deal with unwanted behavior. I live Cedar Hill with my best friend Daniel. He helps me take care of the dogs and also helps me with rescue work. We have had 13 fosters over the last year and half in our home from puppies to older dogs and from healthy to very sick dogs. The rescue work we do has been so great for us and we actually were fostering Heidi and then decided to keep her because she and Dolli Mae got along so well. The things I have learned at DTCDC have also helped me teach manners and basic obedience to our foster dogs and get them even more ready for their forever homes. Thanks for DTCDC for all the great work you guys do and I am so happy to be a part of it.
