You are amazing! Insert Insert Please make plans to attend our Parent Meeting on Monday, January 29 th. Amy Boulware from Chambliss Law Firm will present her second installment in the Special Needs Planning series and will be focusing on circles of support. We will host this session again at school at 6:30pm. Students will have regular afternoon drop offs. Please let us know of your intention to attend so that we may plan accordingly. The feedback from Amy s November session was fantastic, and we are looking forward to the next session! Some of you will remember back four years ago as we began the marathon toward our initial NCASES accreditation; now it is time for reaccreditation! I am thrilled with the continued development of the school, and I know we will proudly share all aspects of the school with the site reviewers. As the time comes nearer we will reach out to several of you to consider sharing your thoughts regarding the school with the site reviewers. If you ever have questions about the process, please ask! We have moved most of our staff development days to the early part of the year for accreditation preparation. Join me in congratulating Allen as one of the most recent additions to the National Association of Private Special Education Centers Board of Directors! NAPSEC is the organization that oversees NCASES (our accreditation) and is the same organization that organized the panel he joined in Washington, DC last summer to address adult services. 2 Happy February! I hope you all had a wonderful start to 2018! We had a fantastic holiday season, but we are so excited to be in full swing in our new semester. We have a lot of fantastic opportunities this semester from Mrs. Leah s annual basketball tournament and the Winter Olympics, to volunteering in the community with Mrs. Jeanette and Mrs. Cassie, to the Third Annual Trousdale School Art Show, to the Golf Tournament we have a full Spring ahead of us! We are even beginning to prepare for this year s musical wow, time flies! We re so glad to be welcoming back Mrs. Sarah on a part-time basis; while we have loved seeing updates from her maternity leave (and the occasional visits for baby snuggles!), we miss our amazing art teacher when she s gone! Mrs. Sarah will be back on Fridays until she returns to full time later in the spring. Hooray! Please make sure to check out the Artistic Avenue article to get more information about the upcoming art show as always, it s open to the community and artists of all abilities! Our electives this month have been a blast! Along with some other popular favorites, Mrs. Marilyn led us in keeping our New Year s Resolutions with a Weight Watchers class, Mrs. Jeanette led a class about percussion instruments, and Mrs. Cassie wowed students with exciting science experiments! We especially loved the day we got to explore what happened when Diet Coke and Mentos mix the results were explosive! As we are looking towards reaccreditation this year, we would like to say thank you to our incredible Trousdale School family; this community and your dedicated involvement in our activities and events make such a difference in our day-to-day success. We are so grateful for your support and for how our families buy in to the vision of Trousdale School. Hoping for one good snowball fight this year, ~Ms. Stephanie Spirit Week 2018 was a blast! Monday: Athletes vs. Mathletes (pictured) Tuesday: Old Timer s Tuesday Wednesday: Movie Characters Day Thursday: Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous Friday: Trousdale School Spirit Day! Out activities! This month in math class, students will be working hard on their own specific math goals and objectives. We will start this month with telling time and then start transitioning into money centers in class. Students will be working on paying exact amounts for a purchase, giving change back, and calculating totals. All of these skills are very close to what students will need to do in real-world situations. We enjoy getting the chance to put these skills into practice during our Dining For my elective this month, I will be leading Card Sharks. This elective has been popular in the past and is always a lot of fun! This class is great for working on students math skills in the most fun way possible! ~Mrs. Cassie

3 In January, we had so many fun activities and events to enjoy! Luckily, even though we had a snow week, we were still able to attend a Lee University Basketball clinic! Thank you to Lee University for putting this fun event on for us! Also-- how fun was the UTC Mocs Basketball game? We had a blast cheering for the players and laughing at Scrappy the Mascot-- and we especially loved meeting and high-fiving the men s basketball team! In February, we will continue practicing for the Trousdale School 2018 Winter Olympics! Please mark your calendars for this fun event and remember to invite your friends and family! The Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, will begin on Thursday, February 8, with the opening ceremony event on Friday, February 9! You can keep up with the Olympics on NBC! Our version of the Winter Olympics will consist of several adapted Olympic games, including Speed Skating, Figure Skating, Luge, Curling, the Biathlon, and many, many more! Last month, we recognized our 2017 Bowling champions and runner ups--but here are some pictures! ~Mrs. Leah I believe I have texted most families about updating student time-off sheets. If I have not messaged with you, please let me know. The month of February, students will be working on food service activities during Vocation Lab. Food service activities will include measuring and weighing ingredients, wrapping menu items for takeout, taking customers orders and writing them on tickets, filling salt and pepper shakers, filling prepped meals, using cling wrap, foil, and plastic wrap on foods and containers, and many more activities! ~Mrs. Leah A big congratulations to Jessica S. for starting her new job at Trousdale School! Jessica will be maintaining our hand towels! We are so glad to have you as a part of the Trousdale School work team! Anthony C. was honored this month for his five years of service at McDonald s! Check out that five-year pin! We re so proud of you, Anthony! Congratulations!!

4 I am thrilled to be back part-time from maternity leave! I missed all the students smiling faces, and I am so grateful for our supportive staff that have taken charge of my classes while I am away with Walter in this season. The students will be working hard with me in Friday art class to create artwork for the upcoming art show. In Monday art class, we have some exciting visiting artists scheduled to lead the students in new projects. We will be welcoming Lolly Durant in January and March to teach paper marbling and Nikki DeLong in February to teach slab constructed clay mugs. These visiting artist sessions were generously funded by an Arts in Education Grant from the Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce. I will return to Trousdale School full-time in May. The third annual From My Perspective Art Show is just around the corner! Students will have the opportunity to show their artwork along with other artists from all over East Tennessee and North Georgia. Some of the artwork will be for sale in a silent auction, and there will be refreshments, music, awards and door prizes. Family members and friends are also welcome to submit artwork!
