1 BULL CREEK PRIMARY SCHOOL Hardy Street, Bull Creek WA 6149 Tel : : Fax : : bullcreek.ps@education.wa.edu.au Web Address : EDUCATION SECURITY - Ph : CITY OF MELVILLE HOTLINE (24 hrs) - Ph Newsletter No: 13 Friday, 29th August 2014 On Friday the 22nd of August S6 did an assembly about Book Week. Sophie did a piano performance and the act got on the way. After the act we sang a song about reading and then Josh and Harry did some jokes and Mr H told a joke to everyone. It was pretty funny. After the jokes Roshan opened a book and Toothless came out of it. I did my part, I was a footballer. After, Brooke and Manuel did a cooking play and then Angus was talking and interviewing people. Cameron, Leona and Julian interviewed the audience and then we did a dance. Assembly Recount by Andrew Hanson Today it was Sheoak 6 s Assembly. It was all about Book Week. I went first in the performance with Erin, then I handed the microphone to Chloe and she went to talk to Jared. Next we sang Don t Stop Reading then after Josh and Harry told some jokes. Roshan went on to be a reader and used his imagination for Toothless to pop out of the book and then he walked off. The footy people came on and practised their handpasses. After Brooke and Manuel went on as chefs and said, I can t wait to try this recipe. After that interviewers came on and Cameron interviewed an orange. Leona said, Everything is awesome when your reading a book! and we did a song where everything was AWESOME!!! Assembly Recount by Samuel Lord Today is Friday the 22nd of August. I was very excited because it was my class Sheoak 6 s assembly. To start off, I played the piano for a welcome. After the welcome piece we sat there listening to my classmates talk. Then we began our play. Once Erin, Sam, Chloe and Jared finished their act we stood up to sing our song. We stood for the School Creed. We sat down and watched the footy people, listened to some humorous jokes, watched Roshan s act and all sorts of things. Finally we began our Everything is Awesome dance. We sat quietly as Mr Cremin and Mrs Martin presented the honour certificates. It was funny when we got muddled when we were singing the National Anthem. I had to play my piece again because Mr Cremin thought the school missed my piece on the piano when it was just a welcome piece. I was a little sad when our assembly was over but it was really fun and I enjoyed it. Assembly Recount by Sophie Wu 1 S:/209 Publications
2 Bull Creek Primary School From the Principal s Desk Sheoak 6 Assembly Our Sheoak 6 class contributed marvellously to the Book Week Theme with their class item Connecting to Books. The children with their wonderful acting and loud clear voices showed how there is really a book suitable for everyone depending on their interests - dancing, football, music, cooking, reading, how to train your dragon, singing and minecraft. The item was great fun to watch - it was full of action and very cleverly presented. Thank you Ms Francis and Sheoak 6 for enhancing our Book Week Theme. WA Primary Schools Massed Choir Festival On Friday 5 September our senior choir will be performing at Winthrop Hall at the University of Western Australia. The Festival is in its 19th year and continues to grow. A total of 2820 students representing 51 schools from the public sector are involved in 6 nights of concerts. Ours is Concert No. 5. Each concert consists of a different massed choir of approximately 470 students as well as 2 different guest choirs each night. Our children will be singing 11 songs with the other schools. I look forward to the presentation and I thank Mr Tim Marshall and the senior choir children for working so keenly towards such a splendid event. Independent Public Schools Program On Wednesday Education Minister Peter Collier announced the next group of Independent Public Schools - I am pleased to say that Bull Creek Primary School is one of them! It is the first time that we have applied and it is pleasing to be selected. The IPS program denotes more autonomy to schools and greater freedom from various bureaucratic requirements. There is a training program that we will undertake later this year with regards to the workings of IPS. Next Assembly Our next assembly will be on Friday 5 September and will be presented by Ms Bolton s Wattle 5 class. Also, at that assembly our Glee Club will present the two dances they performed at the Crown Theatre earlier this month - There s No Business Like Show Business and The Wild West. Ms Eversden will introduce our Glee Club students and tell you about their achievements. Faction Athletics Carnival This year our Athletics Carnival will be on two consecutive days (weather permitting!). The first day, Wednesday 10 August, will be the jumps, throws, 400 metre and 800 metre races. Thursday will be the main day with events for everyone from Pre Primary to Year 7. If it were to rain for part of those days we will finalise those events on the Friday. We will keep our fingers crossed for fine weather. NAPLAN Results You might have heard through the media that NAPLAN results were available - well, that s partly true! Overall State and test scores were published but the students individual reports are not available until next week. As soon as they arrive in the mail to us, we will send them home to parents. Tim Cremin 2
3 BOOK WEEK ASSEMBLY Thanks to all children, parents and staff for contributing to a very successful Book Week Assembly. There was a wide array of colourful and very creative costumes. Congratulations to the following Book Week Assembly Class Winners for 2014 : W10 W9 W8 W7 W5 W3 W2 W1 S6 S5 B6 B5 B4 B3 B2 B1 Ty Cameron Zai Riley, Oliver, Jake & Alfie (Three Little Pigs & the Big Bad Wolf) Lucas Phoebe Struan Noemi Holly Reilly Thomas & Lena Ashleigh Nicholas Sam Jake Jayden LATERNENLAUF Once again the annual Lantern walk was a big success. The weather was great and a terrific sense of community was shared by over 100 people. People looking over the oval from a distance would have been excused for thinking something ghostly was happening... but no, it was lots of enthusias c lantern walkers. Not everyone may have understood the lyrics to the songs, but everyone had a good me. Congratula ons to our li le actors. You did a fantas c job! Ganz toll! Many, many thanks to the Caspelherr family who organised the very yummy food. Also big thanks to the Kruza, Kovacs-Moreton, Fernando and Lance families for their outstanding help in the kitchen. Everyone who couldn't make it last night really missed out big me. Mr Cremin, you are a fantas c principal and your support for the Laternenlauf is highly appreciated. I think one can guess from this li le paragraph that thanks to everyone last night, I had a wonderful me and I am looking forward to seeing you again in 365 days. Same me. Same place. Bis dann.
