Hooray for Hollywood the Church Aug. 7 **Pool Party** in Camarillo September 4 Country Lovers Western Dance Club Message From the President Deanna I remember my high school government teacher telling us that it takes six to eight years for the changes made while a President is in office to take effect where the people see the change. I was Vice President of Country Lovers when Bob Allen, as President, started to question, why do we do it that way? If the answer was simply, because we have always done it that way, then it was time for a change. While I admit, I was a bit hesitant, I did my best not to be resistant, but instead embraced this philosophy, and help to start the ball rolling. As I look now it is so obvious that Country Lovers would not; could not, be what it is, if we were still in the because we have always done it that way, mode. One of the best lessons I have learned is not to let other people s negativity stop you. Tude-a-late them! (If you don t know, ask). So, where am I going with this? Well, this year we have seen a couple more items on Bob s (and the Board s) change list really make a difference in the Club. If we had not started several years back, we would have had our Dedication Dance to Kathy Culley at the same ordinary place, which as those who knew Kathy, knew she was anything but ordinary, she was extraordinary! After several years of looking for a different, but appropriate place for our Club Picnic, I think we had great success in making that change. I believe the location change is largely responsible for the largest turn out to a Club picnic in seven years (we only missed that number by eight people)! I know that I have a great Board getting everything done, but I also feel like this should be a lot more work than it is. This year in so many ways despite the changes is flowing along smoothly. While I admit this is the latest I have arrived at the picnic in years, the day went by so effortlessly and quickly (to me anyway, Dennis might have another story), I hardly knew what time it was when people started leaving. For me it was comfortable and a peaceful day with friends. I enjoyed the intimate setting, no one complaining about our music and no one trying to play their music louder than ours. Jesse came to me suggesting we move a couple of tables for a place to dance. We had a flat smooth place to dance. For those helping with the food preparation and clean up, having the kitchen was wonderful although I did hear Dennis mention it was a bit lonely at times while cooking the meat. If we are fortunate enough to use the OST park again next year, remember to say hi! I cannot help but wonder why we did not do this sooner?

2 Message From President Deanna - continued from Page 1 Actually, I can answer that question. Having people with different ideas and experiences on the Board brings new possibilities. Country Lovers is a dynamic Club making changes as we go to benefit those who are involved and supportive. Our bi-laws allow the elected officers (president, vice president, secretary and treasurer) to run for two years as a way to encourage more people to become involved. I have opted due to a very busy personally schedule not to run for President a second year. I can tell you that although it looks like a lot of work sometimes I rarely look at it that way. It is a chance to do something constructive with my friends. Because I enjoy Country Lovers, I feel that after spending five of the seven years I have been a member on the Board it is time for change, and bring in some new ideas. Polly and I volunteered at the last General Meeting to be on the nominating committee for the next Board for Although Carol originally said she did not have time, she has been more proactive than Polly or I. I do not know what I would do without her. In August, the nominating committee will be recruiting volunteers to run for office next year. I know who some of you are with those great ideas. We like volunteers, but are willing to twist arms if we must! July 17 th Camarillo Dance was great. The band Larry Dean and the Shooters were good as usual. The crowd was extremely light. Our Angela was there to teach and play great music which we are used to dancing to. Mike, Jesse and I were there to represent the Country Lovers. That was quiet disappointing when there is a dance and a band and no one attends. Fellow dancers we need to get out and support these local dances before they all fold up and disappear. I certainly hope that come September 24 th when our DJ s are there playing that we have a better club showing. But we danced the night away and had a great time.
