3 Greeting once again, Tracy Ackeret Ramblings from Silk It s been a great couple months. We have had several very good rides. Don, Judy, Debbie and I went to Cold Springs Tavern. I know it was a Sunday and if we put it on the schedule again I will try to get it on a Saturday. This is one place that everyone should go to at least once. The ride up there is half the pleasure but the Tavern itself has lots of history and good food to boot. The Picnic was a huge success, thanks to all that came and those that put in all the hard work to make it another great picnic. Debbie and I went on the Cal State HOG rally. There is not going to be a Cal State rally in 2011 but the same group that put on the rally this year is once again bidding to do the 2012 rally. If it is another riding rally you can bet that Debbie and I will do everything we can to be on it. For those that have never done a riding rally, which this year was, I cannot give it enough praise. We had a really good time and met some wonderful people. Debbie and I did not get to attend the ride to Paso but from everything that I have heard it was another fun time. This ride is one of our favorites but this year we had other commitments that prevented us from going. Hopefully next year if Mike and Sandra decide to do it again we can go. We also had the lunch ride to the Greenhorn Grill above Wofford Heights. This is a nice place but the ride up there makes it worth going. Matarango Days this year was also fun, we did not have as many people at this year s event but we still had a good time. It s really important that we try and support these events. The city asked us to participate and its good PR for our group. Anytime that you get a city asking for a groups participation it s a good thing. After the November meeting we have a ride planned up to Tehachapi. We are going back to Recover Your Cub. We went last year after the November meeting. They gave us a good tour of what they have going on. They have some really cool private aircraft there in all stages of repair. After visiting with them we plan on having lunch someplace, not sure where yet but someplace. They also are supposed to be having open hangar day up at the airport so that should be cool also. Never know what you might see in someone s hangar. We are planning on having a planning session for next year s calendar. We will let everyone know when and where so if you have any inputs as to what you would like to see on the calendar next year in the way of rides or events plan on coming to it. If you can t make it to the session just let Stan Sr know what you would like to see. Remember this is everyone s group and everyone has input as to what we plan. As we go into the colder months remember to take a few extra minutes to make sure that your bike is ready for the cold and wet. It s easy to forget to take those few extra minutes to make sure that everything is as it should be but it could be the difference between a good ride and one that you would rather forget. As always be safe and ride hard Silk We had a weak turnout for Maturango Days, 8 bikes I believe rode during the National Anthem. AVHD had a booth with 2 bikes, shirts, hats, etc. Our lunch ride to the Greenhorn Grill was well attended. I don't remember the count, but it was double digits for bikes. We had sunshine with cool temps leaving Ridgecrest, which turned into overcast and chilly starting in the pass. Mike Moore did an outstanding job of leading the ride to our destination. I know that if I had tried to find the place by myself, I would have missed the turnoff. Lunch was ok. I don't think it was anything to shout about, others may have a different opinion. Barry Hoyer & I cut our sandwiches in half, then swapped out a half. So we each had half a burger and half a chili dog. Tracy and I decided to go to the IWV Brewery and at one the stop signs I signaled Barry if he wanted to get a drink, he replied yes. But Barry thought we were going to Mickey's and turned towards Ridgecrest with the group while Tracy and I headed on to the brewery. But Barry figured it out and caught up to us at the brewery. After a couple of beers, we bugged out and headed for home. Don't forget to see Sandra about Xmas party tickets. Anyone interested in joining the RAG board, talk to Tracy. Ride Safe, Paul Paul Liesman Still a Volleyball Dad 3

4 RAG Family!!! Judy Gerard & Tommie Lawrence Double Trouble Check your wallet or purse!!! This Friday, November 12, there are a couple of fun events taking place in Lancaster. First, there is Cruise Night to Schooner's for all of you fellas with Man Cards, and of course, those of you without, since you don't need one!!! Second, while you (THE MEN) are at Schooner's, there is a Ladies' Garage Party at the AVHD shop for LADIES, where of course, we will buy MAN presents for Christmas!!! The Garage Party will be from 6-9 p.m., and Nicole needs a rough head count pretty soon. I will be driving my truck which seats 6 VERY comfortably. I think we ladies should drive down in order to carry ALL those MAN presents back for our SPUD STUDS. They deserve it, now don't they...bless their hearts. If you would like to attend the garage party or find out more, visit and you will find both the bike nite at Schooner's and the Garage Party info. Then please call me and I will call Nicole to give her an RSVP number for us. They have said they would love to see RAG LOH come down to this. Talk to you soon. Judy G. Sandra Moore.5 Treasurer The treasurer s report is provided at the monthly Chapter meeting and is available from the Treasurer upon request. Hi Everyone, Just letting you know that I will be selling Christmas tickets at the November meeting and up until Thursday, 9 December. I MUST call in my head count to the Carriage Inn no later than 1000 on Friday, 10 December. Our next meeting is 11 December so I will NOT be selling tickets at the December meeting. Christmas party tickets are $21.00 per person. If you helped at the last car wash, the tickets are $18.00 per person. Get your tickets early and come out and enjoy a great evening of food, laughs, Harley stuff, door prizes, centerpiece drawing, and the big HOG Draw! Sandra Moore, Christmas Committee Chairperson 4

8 Stan Austin Jr. Mikey Safety Stan Jr. Well now that the weather has changed once again. (Time flies way to fast) It is time to change that oil again, and make sure that our bikes are ready to ride in cold weather. Check your tires, controls, belt, all fluids, and all fasteners. We also need to keep in mind that the weather will cause more hazards on the rode ways. As we are coming in to the colder months, it s also the time for holiday parties. Make sure you watch for DUI drivers, and let s not have any in the group. We have a taxi co in town now, and we all have friends that should help us ok if we need it. We need to remember that sometimes people don t drive well in bad weather, so riding or driving watch out for the others on the road. It s also time to buy new parts for your bikes, so make sure they are installed right. If you have any problems, contact Earl, me, or the dealer. So please ride hard and have fun. Let s have a great holiday season this year, and look forward to seeing you all at our Christmas Party. Safety Stan Jr. Earl Burley Me AV Harley-Davidson

10 Just a short tid-bit about the Greenhorn Grill. Saturday October 23rd 2010 a day that will go down in infamy. What a beautiful Day, the sun is out, no wind, Good friends to ride with. We meet up with the group at the 76 station and I must have a target on my back. This BIG Bully... Mike (something or other) starts in with the OLD GUY comments before I even get my helmet off. Wiping the tear from my eyes I tell myself "Stiff upper lip" He will stop picking on me, but NO he makes me ride in the back, like I'm too old to keep up with the" Real Bikers." Well I will humor him this time and accept the responsibility of sweep rider. I'm feelin better now. Off we go up the hill out of Inyokern and "oh no" I can't keep up with the group, drop a gear to 4th, that s better I can still see them. They have to stop at the top of the hill and I catch up. Twisties over Walker Pass, that slows them down, then we start up the Greenhorn...race track? Oh yes there out of sight in no time. I miss the turn and have to go back, feeling like I just loaded Mike s gun we pull in at the Greenhorn Grill. What a nice surprise. That Bully (what s his name) is inside. Lunch is good, service good, the weather is changing. Getting ready to head back home and it's cold. The clouds are moist and heavy; looks like it could snow at any time. By the time we reach Kernville the group has to pull over and wait for me to catch up, more bullets for Mike. We don't see the group again after Kernville. Karl and Stan are at the top of Walker Pass. We take a break and all ride home together. This turned out to be a really good ride. Thanks Mike, you found a great place for the group to ride. Vikki won't let me order the headstone in the shape of a URINAL for you...yet Dwight 10

Judy Activities are the life of any club or group. If you have nothing to do and nowhere to go, then why belong to a club. We have a big challenge living here in Ridgecrest and that is, where do we go. Every place is not a short ride, it is a half-day ride; Bakersfield, Lancaster, Victor Valley and the list could go on. The other issue is weather. It is not the safest thing to go riding into the mountains on a motorcycle in the winter. The point is, where we can go that people will give up a half-day or more to go riding. Well we will be looking to you, the members to give us your ideas on where to go and what to do. I have had input that everyone likes the cabin fever run and that some would like the wine and roses rides back again. We have also had input for a Las Vegas trip. But what we also need is day rides, meals and places to see. So, think about your favorite places to ride and please pass them on to the board or me, (an is fine). We hope to have a planning meeting very soon to put these rides on our calendar. End of 2010 activities include Flex Thursday night cruise nights; General Meetings at the Carriage Inn on 13 November and 11 December and our Annual Christmas Party on 18 December, which is always a fun night is coming to a close, but the fun does not have to, check the calendar on the web site for activities. As always ride safe, keep your head up and the rubber down. 13
