We have a one-hour long practice at Birmingham HS Turf fields followed directly by a game against different teams! The only thing your child will need is a mouth guard for their safety. We also accept friend requests so buddies don't have to be separated. The tuition includes a $25 materials fee for the team jersey. Practices will be one hour prior to game time. This is a 7 practice/ 7 game season, played on Sundays from Sept. 27 November 8. Location: Games will be played on the turf fields at Groves and/or Seaholm High School - to be determined. Please register early - the price will be increased for late registrations on 9/07/2015 ($167 BPS residents; $172 non- BPS). Tuition $148. Register at or call NEW AND EXCITING LEAGUE SNAP QUIDDITCH LEAGUE (Grades 3-8)
2 For those students in Grades 3-8 who want to really deviate from conventional sports and the real world we are showcasing the new game of Quidditch. This fictional sport from the fantasy world of Harry Potter is the new craze at schools and universities across the country. Learn to play this co-ed, non-contact sport with a unique mix of elements from rugby, dodge ball, and tag. So for fantasy geeks with an athletic streak, Quidditch is the perfect game. A $6 materials fee for team shirt is included in the registration fee. Classes will meet at Seaholm or Groves fields - to be determined on Sundays from October 4 November 8. Tuition $ Register at or call District School News INCLUSIVE PRESCHOOL OPENINGS! The PEEP program offers a half-day preschool opportunity for 3 and 4 year olds. The program operates, Monday-Thursday, and is located at the Early Childhood Center. This program brings together students with special needs and their typically developing peers. Research has shown a growth in learning for both parties when students work together and share learning experiences. A co-teaching team of one special education teacher and one general education teacher, working with paraprofessionals, provides an enriching, engaging and developmentally appropriate learning experience. BPS is accepting applications for the Great Start Readiness Program, GSRP. This preschool program is for children who will be four years old by Sept 1, 2015 and is available to families who qualify. For more information or visit the Friends of Different Learners website: Athletics Update In an effort to ensure that student-athletes receive the appropriate professional attention for head injuries, the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA), will begin to provide student athletes with additional insurance that is intended to pay accident medical benefits resulting from a suspected concussion when participating in MHSAA covered activities. Groves Pompon Fall Tryouts Interested in joining the GHS Pompon Program? Everyone will be accepted into the program. The tryout is only to determine whether you make JV or Varsity. Tryouts are Wednesday, September 9th from 6:00 8:00 p.m. in the Groves weight room. Please bring your physical dated after 4/15/15. Seaholm Varsity Baseball Development Camps Join Varsity Head Coach John Toth and Current Seaholm Players! Each unique camp session will be from 10 am-noon at Seaholm High School. Grades K-8: $75 per camp - $125 for 2 camps - $175 for 3 camps - $225 for 4 camps - $250 for all 5 camps. September 12-Pitching September 26- Hitting October 3- Fielding October 10- Base Running October 17- Skills Competition The camps are great for all skill levels. Campers will be placed into groups by age, and then rotated in a station format. Each station will have a unique focus point. The campers will then get countless reps practicing what they learned at each station, and will be provided drills to help them continue to develop on their own. There has been much talk lately around shifts in current policies affecting business and neighbored development, reconfiguring of well traveled roads and the need for extended senior
4 support services. This is your opportunity to become an informed voter, ahead of absentee ballots, and to hear directly from the candidates on issues that impact your community. Jay Grossman from the Observer Eccentric Newspaper will moderate this timely event. Each candidate will be allowed a brief opening statement followed by audience questions. District Community News The MITTEN Lab at the Detroit Opera House The MITTEN Lab, a new theatre artist residency, will host a Kick-Off Event at the Detroit Opera House s Chrysler Black Box and Sky Deck on Sunday September 13, The Kick-Off Event aims to introduce the MITTEN Lab to the Michigan community and establish the Lab s relationship with Michigan-based theatre organizations and Detroit, a city steeped in theatrical history. This is also an opportunity for the community to connect with emerging artists and their work in a way that is both accessible and affordable. Panels will be moderated by Rachel Sussman (MITTEN Lab Co-Founder) and John W. Rutherford (ArtServe Michigan Govenor s Award for Art Educator of the Year). This event will take place Sunday, September 13, 2015, 1-5pm at Charles L. Bowers School Farm, 1219 E Square Lake Rd, Bloomfield Hills MI. The Patriot Festival is a patriotic event that celebrates the American spirit! Featuring hayrides, farm animals and activities, and other fun activities, the Patriot Festival will include speeches and presentations from many dignitaries, schools, students, and others. BU Hockey Season Birmingham Unified Hockey is holding a fall information meeting, Monday, September 14th at 6:30 p.m. at Groves High School in the commons area. Any player interested in trying out for the team is encouraged to attend, along with a parent. Coaches, board members, veteran players and parents will be present for questions. You can also visit our website The Lung Run Mary Kate Mullen, Stephanie Sills and Tess Collins are three juniors at Seaholm High School creating "The Lung Run" a 5K walk/run to benefit lung cancer research through the American Cancer Society.
