8 Cosplay A vibrant part of the Anime Expo experience, cosplay promotes camaraderie and community among fans of a variety of anime, manga, games, and more. Masquerade One of Anime Expo s longstanding traditions, running for over 20 years, the Masquerade is a cosplay and performance competition with one of the largest cash prizes in the country. As AX is the biggest Japanese Anime convention in America, the AX Masquerade is one of our most famous events. All items worn for performances must be hand made by the competitors. The costumes and performances must be from Japanese anime, manga, toku satsu or video games. Cosplayers that are positive leaders who have shown community support and outreach through positivity both at con and in the online world are invited to come and promote fun, passion, and acceptance within the cosplay community through panels and discussions.
