1 Eye of the tiger Construction Update February 2014 In this issue: LHS Football News 1-3 With the conclusion of basketball the deconstruction and construction process has begun at LHS. Some of the immediate impacts have been the vacating of locker rooms and storage areas, moving of the weight room, and the closing of Bud Bateman Gymnasium. Currently construction crews are removing asbestos and preparing to start demolition. The construction will have a direct impact of the football program. Moving the weigh room to Bay 5 during the construction is only temporary as the new facility will have a brand weight room facility and indoor running track. Locker rooms and coaches office will also be located in the new facility, and improvements to The Pit will occur as part of the construction. During the 2014 football season trailers will be moved in to provide players and coaches with a place to change. Although there will be inconveniences throughout the building process the new facility will be an advantage for years to come. The Nasty Boyz (our adopted team nickname) will not be making excuses or letting small challenges stop us from moving forward as a program. Being a Nasty Boy personifies working harder and dirtier than our opponents. Complete plans and blue prints for the new facility can be found on the school website at April Calendar 4 PeeWee Notes 5 TTC Minutes 6 Classroom 7 Winners King of the Jungle 8 Future Tigers 9 Alumni Spotlight 10 Program 11 Information Upcoming Events: Physicals Apr. 23rd GMS Camp May Youth Camp June 9-12
2 Eye of the tiger New weights Schedule Offseason weights has been changed to 3 days a week. On Mondays, Wednesday, and Thursdays offseason weight program take place at 3:25 on days school is in session. Fridays the weight room will be open for those looking to get additional work. Camp Dates Physical Dates GMS Camp May Youth Camp June 9-12 LHS Team Camp July 17-18, April 23rd GMS Beacon and DCH will again be holding sports physicals for GMS and LHS athletes this spring. Physicals will be $20 and $10 will be donated back to the school with each physical. No athletes will be allowed to practice or participate in a sport without a physical. There will be a make-up date on May DCH for those who can t attend make the GMS date. Spring Meet your Tiger Currently there are no set plans for a spring meet your Tiger night. Please stay tuned for more details. Bud Bateman Pictures The athletic department has put together a picture collage to commemorate Bud Bateman Gymnasium. If you are interested in ordering a collage or want more details please contact the athletic office or jvogelgesang@lburg.k12.in.us.
3 Eye of the tiger Moving Day Not only do our players lift weights, but we also move weights. This spring has brought a lot of change to the LHS facilities. Moving the weight room was just one of those changes. If you polled the LHS alumni as to where their weight room was when they were in school I m sure you would get a range of answers. The weight room has been located in the mechanical room, on the stage, downstairs by the locker room, and then our last home was in the old drafting and developing rooms. Now the weight room will be in bay 5 in the back of the school for the next year. Quarters are a little tight in the new weight room, but we are excited to get in our new home and get to work. After completion of the gymnasium we will have a brand new huge weight room, a new indoor track, and a view that overlooks the football field. Whether we are in a brand new facility or in a garage behind the school, it is not the facility or the weight that makes one better, but it is the amount of sweat and work put into getting better. At LHS we are very blessed to have the opportunity to get new facilities and look forward to a summer of hard work and improvement.

10 ALUMNI Spotlight Bob Brookbank Football Coach: Dick Meador Football Position: safety & QB Number: 12 Other sports: 4 years basketball & four years track Class: 1975 graduating year; senior football season Athlete at LHS: Varsity football career:27 & 3; Two conference championships; two year starter; allconference QB senior year; playoffs were not in existence; at one time held six football records at LHS; (all six records were due to tremendous teammates who made me look better than I really was!) Two year varsity basketball starter overall record 31 & 14; one sectional championship Junior & Senior years track 400m/low hurdles/1600 m relay; Team was conference champs both years! Memorable Moments Athletically: Conference champs senior season after a disappointing 8-2 season as a junior. Sectional champs junior year, losing only by two to state ranked Rushville in the regional. Track was enjoyable due to teammates and ability to talk to female athletes at the meets! Coaching at LHS: The state runner-up season of 1985! Coaching with Steve Blackwell was perhaps the best coaching years in my career. He was a true genius and shaped my philosophy of offensive football. The scouting trips he, Jim Pugh, Brad Hanner and I made are experiences better left untold but were a lot of fun. Defeating Connersville in the regional first round game was tremendous,( mid 80 s.) I was boys reserve coach and Pugh, Blackwell and I had them scouted to a tee. On their home court in front of a packed Spartan Bowl crowd was awesome! Being able to coach my sons was a highlight of my career. The Brownstown wins of 1999 and 2005 sectional championship games were highlight wins due to both B- town teams were ranked in the top ten and at their home field. The 2005 game we were down with 6:05 on the clock in the fourth quarter and won the game in overtime. An instant classic! Post High School: Attended Hanover College and in 1979 returned to Lawrenceburg as science teacher at GMS thru Moved on to East Central and taught science and coached as an assistant varsity football and assistant varsity boys basketball. Two sectionals in football and one sectional championship in basketball. Married 31 years to Angela Stoll, LHS 1978 and three children. I am presently teaching at LHS, courses in Biology and Career Development.
