1 The Heartland Region of The Embroiderers' Guild of America, Inc. presents HeartBeats A quarterly newsletter for Heartland Region Members September 2017, Volume 32, Issue 3 The mission of The Embroiderers' Guild of America is to inspire passion for the needle arts through education and the celebration of its heritage. ( Region Director Message Hello Stitchers, As I write this, cooler days and rain have brought relief to the summer heat. I hope September will be the beginnings of fall and not a return to summer heat. I m writing this as I m getting ready to go to Asheville, North Carolina, for the Board Meeting and National Seminar. As you are now reading this I m already back home. The timing to get the newsletter articles finalized fell in the middle of the seminar. My report from the 2017 Fall Board of Directors meeting will be in the next Heartbeats. I m looking forward to having a great time in Asheville. That isn t saying I won t add to my unfinished projects but I m excited about the classes I will be taking. I m going to try to be good at Merchandise night but I m not making any promises. Two Region Committee Chair positions have been filled. Marty Martin is the new Finance Chair and Rita Weinberg is the new Officers Notebook / Leadership Chair. I want to thank both Marty and Rita for accepting these positions. I still have two Region Committee Chair positions open; if you re looking for a way to become more involved in the region this is a good way, just contact me. They are Membership & Banner and Historian. I would like to thank every chapter that took the time to discuss the possible reformatting of Region Meetings with their chapter members and complete the survey. The information received will be summarized and the results reviewed by both the Executive and Planning Committees as well as shared with all region members. This should provide the information needed to plan for better future region meetings. Solveig Walstrom and her team have been busy planning for the 2019 National Seminar that Heartland Region is hosting. The meeting Gateway to Stitching will be held in St. Louis at the Marriott St. Louis Grand from October 30 November 3, We already have a great group that has volunteered to fill the many positions needed but we always need your help. So please volunteer. This is also an opportunity for anyone interested in teaching at a national level; see the Call for Teachers announcement in this newsletter. I hope many of you have registered to attend the Fall Workshop, October 20-22, 2017, in Wichita, KS, Come Fly with Us and Stitch. If not, you can still register before September 15 with a late fee. Also being offered at the workshop is the Region Sponsored class Intermediate Hardanger Techniques. If anyone is interested in taking and teaching the class in their chapter, please see your chapter president. I hope to see many of you there. In closing, remember to always.. Keep Stitching Marietta Mason, Region Director HeartBeats, September 2017, page 1
