1 10503 Oak Valley Trail, Austin, Texas BOW TIMES Volume 33 Number 6 June 2011 Established in 1979 to encourage the restoration and preservation of all series and models of 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevrolets, including Corvettes and Trucks. MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE NEXT MEETING June 16 at the Soeffkers new store, All Things Kids, on the square in downtown Georgetown Dinner 6PM meeting 7:30. Happy June, Members, President s Message In May we had a lot going on. If fact at our May meeting at Tres Amigo s Restaurant we had 47 members attend and that was wonderful. The big event for us was the trip to Dallas for Lone Star 29. What a great turn out we had for this event. I really enjoyed seeing all our members there and everywhere you looked at any time of the day you saw one of our shirts. Great exposure for us. As it turned out I believe that we were the largest club that participated but they failed to recognize that fact. Kay tried to keep track of us and counted 35 members. The show was very good. The hotel very nice but we have been at this hotel a few times for this event in the past. That is why we choose every time that it is our turn, to change locations, just for the variety and not to get stale. The trip up and back was safe for all with the exception of two tire incidences that I know of. Oh yea, Ronnie will have to tell his story at the next meeting. It will be a good topic for discussion. The awards were many and since they elected to use the 1000 point judging format, the judging drug out till after 3:30 pm for many. This is to be a fun event but unless you have professional judges doing the selections, many of us feel the participants do not need to be crawling on the ground looking under these cars in 90+ degree temperatures. That is why all the other clubs in rotation have elected to use the 100 point system, if any. But never the less, our club took home many awards. Congratulations to all of you including me. One big screw up was the presentation of our Lone Star 30 video. Jim Rankin put many hours and a lot of effort into making this a prime video on our upcoming event next year. Jim tried several times to have his presentation setup on their equipment to show at the banquet. Well, when it came time to view it, they were not set up for sound from their computer and only the video portion was displayed on the screen, no sound. To top it off, they had a local DJ who was hilarious in presenting the awards and was very entertaining. But when 1
2 the glitch occurred in our video, he began to ad lib and added his commentary to it. Funny? Maybe, to a point, but totally destroyed our credibility for the presentation. I truly fell sorry for Jim and all his efforts in this, but the video will be sent out to all of the other clubs to be displayed at their meetings. We will also have it on our web site and I will see if Jim and I can possibly attend other clubs meeting to play it for them in the next few months. All in all, it was a good show. A relaxing time to a point and a wonderful time to be with all our friends. One last piece of information to pass along to you. Craig and I took the 55 couch to Dallas. We had the couch in the registration area all set up with the lights on and the music playing. Many people liked what they saw. Many member took turns sitting by the couch selling tickets. Many tickets were sold and many pictures were taken of it. We even had a few people to have their pictures taken setting on it. So we are off to a good start. We only have 5000 tickets made for the raffle and that is all we will have. All of these members at Lone Star 29 will be given points toward the Participation Awards at the end of the year. The couch will be on display around town at different car show and events this year. Everyone will have their turn selling tickets for it. See you at the meeting Dan Minutes for the May 2011 Meeting Dan called the meeting to order and welcomed guests. There were 36 members present and 10 guests. Meeting was held at Tres Amigos, on Hwy. 360 Announced new members and visitors present Wellness Report--- Bruce Jacobs is doing much better and was able to attend tonight s meeting, Pam Porter is doing much better too, she may still have to have surgery on her appendix, she was able to attend tonight s meeting also. John Majalca is having back problems, and Gloria Majalca fell. Breaking News we found out after the meeting: Christian Soeffker had a BAD motorcycle crash and broke his arm and had to have surgery, but is now recovering at home. We send out our thoughts and prayers to everyone and Hope for a speedy recovery. Minutes from last months meeting were accepted. Kay Bowen read the treasurer's report------was accepted Tickets for the couch raffle are being printed and the flyers are finished and printed. Capital Spectrum printed and donated 1000 flyers for us to hand out at Lone Star 29 in Dallas, they tell about our Lone Star 30 and have the registration form on the back for people to fill out and start pre-registration for ours in Grab some from Dan and start handing them out as soon as possible We need Door Prizes for our 2012 Lone Star Convention---Ask Banks for pens, or any business you can think of to donate for the goody bags. Ask businesses for gift certificates, koosies, any kind of merchandise they can give for a silent auction. Samuel's Jewelers gave a watch for the auction or a door prize. Also ask for sponsorships. Jim told about Lone Star 30 and showed the goodie bags that were donated by the city of San Marcus for us to fill up and the Plaque for the club choice Award Bert has almost finished the couch and will be ready for Dan and Craig to pick up to take to Dallas to start selling tickets. Craig arranged for Dick's Classic Car Garage and Museum to Host our opening night meet and greet Dinner Cruise on their parking lot and their Bar-B-Q Pit' for us to cook burgers and hot dogs on Friday night May 4th, 2012 Dallas has 210 preregistrations----- They had a drawing out of all the preregistrations for one night free at the hotel and our very own "Lucky Joel Parrish" won {AMAZING} 2

She is doing very well, has graduated from a walker to a cane but still not completely comfortable in getting out in public and walking a lot. We should be at the next meeting and will start to participate in some of the upcoming shows on weekends soon. Jim Rowley Lone Star 29 Our first Classic Chevy Convention Show was the Lone Star XXV. To date we have not missed one. The shows are always composed of great cars and great people. The Dallas XXIX was an exceptional show with even more great tri-fives and more friendly faces. The American Graffiti theme with Candy Clark on the scene was a thrill. We got a real kick out of the vintage drag racing. The super cool band Curb Service was too good, not to mention American Graffiti at the drive-inn. Phyllis won some dough in the Poker run and she was really excited to win the Wounded Warrior Quilt of Valor. It was a bitter sweet moment when we watched her Platinum Award 55 first edition pickup drive away with a new owner! There was just so much going on that it was impossible not to enjoy the show. What a fun time with our trifive family of friends. Mucho Thanks and Grande Kudos to the Dallas Club. See Ya'll in San Marcos for the XXX. 8 Just thought I would send you some photos of our 1954 Chevy pickup that was used on May 4, 2011 out at Reimer's Ranch for "Super model" Cindy Crawford's ads... with ROOMS TO GO. On Monday last week, we got a call from some "film company" who wanted to use our truck. But, they told us the 1967 pickup...so we drove it the 30 miles to the ranch on Wednesday. Then, about 1:45 pm the "crew" arrived and they did not want the but, the 1954 truck! I sure am glad that our friend, Jerry Dixon, had worked on the truck on Tuesday and got it 'going' good! As some man had to drive Jim back home to get the and, Jim had to drive it faster than normal. We also had to go back to the ranch the next day to pick up the 1954 as I did not remember how to drive the old 1967 anymore... It was fun to be there at the "commercial shoot" and to meet Cindy Crawford...and, ALL the other people who work doing all that photography. We never know what we will be doing from week to week...no time to just sit in the rocking chair... Jean and Jim 8
