Fortunately this time around we did not have James performing his rain dance!
2 Ducks on the Rice On the last weekend in October six shooters from Canberra went to a property near Narrandera where we have shot many times in the past to help cull ducks on the rice. There were a lot of ducks about and we shot nearly 100 in a couple of days. With 42 birds, Paddo was high gun, but the prize for top yarn spinner went to Russell Stephenson, who knocked down a blackie that was 60 yards away when he shot it on Friday night and 100 yards away when we all went home on Sunday. Russell was using super XXX magnums and turned a couple of summersaults from the recoil. The duck fell like a stone from a huge height and bounced 6 feet in the air after hitting the water. It must have been KO'd by the lead falling on its head from an even huger height because, reinvigorated by the cold water, it then flapped its wings and flew to Paddo who finished it off. F&G Nationals A small group, of members travelled to Echuca to experience the atmosphere with nearly 500 shooters and compete in the nationals. While they did not bring home any of the booty they said it was well run and a worthwhile experience. Sporting Clays October The weather was near perfect 28 degrees, hardly a cloud in the sky and a light cooling breeze welcomed 23 local shooters attending Canberra s October Sporting Clays. The New Shooter Sunday (ran each first Sunday of the month) has started to bear fruit with six new shooters attending and the new faces were made most welcome. In the past we have managed to get by with one layout, however, the growing numbers suggest a second layout will be required in the near future. (Fortunately Club member Dave McCarthy is just completing a new set of shooting stands which will soon be put to good use.) Coordinator Rodney Kneipp had set a challenging course with a wide variety of targets which CICTC Newsletter - December 2011 Page 2
3 included Batus and Rabbits. During the day the wind changed pushing the targets out a bit making people concentrate on some of the longer than usual targets. Also included in this months program was a novelty event which consisted of twenty Report Pair Rabbits (left and right) which proved very popular with strong vocal support from the spectators. Corp Day Friday 18th November Fourteen staff members from the AGs Dept and partner agencies attended the Club for a Team Building afternoon." The visitors used the Club facilities for a barbeque lunch before shooting the standard 12 targets familiarization and 13 Comp. There was a three way tie on eleven, which resulted in in a two report pair shoot off. Simon won the day with a two target lead from the best ladies Katy. Both got to wear the honorary Sashes for bragging rights. Field & Game - November The November Sim Field shoot was a relatively warm day but overall good conditions with 63 shooters enjoying a somewhat more drier day than the previous shoot. This shoot was sponsored by Canberra Bodyworks for the main event (100 targets handicap) with Perazzi Australia sponsoring the sub gauge event. High gun for the day went to John Sankey with a very good 93 OTG.
