The building shown was the original clubhouse as it arrived on site. It is now part of the caretakers residence attached on the western end of the current clubhouse. As you can see a lot of good work has been done over the years

Annual General Meeting The Club s AGM was held on the 9 April 2017, below is the report tabled from the President, Discipline Coordinators and the Caretaker. Presidents Annual General Report 2016/17 Once again the efforts of the small number of volunteers who keep the club humming has been invaluable. Disciplines have been run, grounds and kit tended, new works executed, the canteen staffed and provisioned. In short they ve been very busy and it hasn t just been just about keeping the lights on. Here are some of the major things that have been accomplished: Our environmental obligations were met, mainly due to the efforts of Barry Dunn and Rob Butterworth. This included reviewing the documents we submit to simply what we are producing. We ve even trialled a sweeper to pick up wads which was successful but was a victim of its success, more engineering required there. Our Corporate Shoots and New Shooter Sunday s continue to be well attended, contributing critical revenue that enables the club to cover our baseline costs and have enough in reserve to undertake upgrades. When we looked at our finances in detail this year we found that this was the key aspect that ensures we meet our base financial requirements, cover maintenance and allow us to make a steady level on investment in improvements. We supported juniors in the sport by hosting the three day ACTA/AIS Junior Elite Academy Camp. And another one for elite shooters is coming up in May. The Wednesday workers (now the Thursday workers) are the core of any maintenance going on and contribute countless hours on the things that just need doing plus improvements. Rob Butterworth is still putting in a lot of time in his war on weeds, fixing fences etc etc. Thanks to our Vice President and caretaker, Andrew Paddison the layouts look like a golf course. We ve repaired stock damaged fences, irrigated around the clubhouse, maintained a large a fire break perimeter around the facilities, removed tonnes of rubbish and obtained designated recycling bins. Thank you to those members that are taking their rubbish or cardboard boxes home with them - if everyone makes a small effort in this regard it will greatly help reduce one of our ongoing costs. Our Newsletter has been paused for most of this year due to our Editor having to deal with some family issues but that will ramp up again this year. Our face book presence is active again though and we get quite a good level of interest across shooters and their friends. We d like to thank Lorraine and Jennifer very much for all the lunches they ve provided. Also their helpers Ella Jonklaas, Chloe Gruber and Laura Gruber. 2

A very sincere thank you to Brent Murphy who shielded me from the horrors of ACT the Development Application process in taking on that aspect of the DTL layout lighting improvement project. Also to Josh Balogh and Jason Goldstraw for all the work they ve put in in getting the work actually done on the lights as well as replacing the DTL trap house lids on layouts 1 and 2. This second bit improvement work makes it a lot safer and easier to get in and out of the trap houses for maintenance and filling. When you sit back and reflect on all that has gone on through the year there s far too many to list them all here. To the Committee members, Instructors and other club members who give their time and effort to make this club the success that it is, I sincerely thank you for all your efforts. I ll single out John Kearns though for all the work that he does to keep a handle on our finances. As always there s lots more we could potentially do with more participation to relieve the pressure on the core of workers and become even more successful any help will be greatly appreciated. Discipline Reports: Field & Game: The club is very thankful for the generous sponsorship of Fyshwick Firearms, Canberra Bodyworks, Safari Firearms and Perazzi Australia for sponsoring the Simulated Field events. Though numbers are slightly down from previous years, this event consistently attracts larger numbers at sponsor s shoots and the Christmas events. Even though numbers have declined, the variety of locations that competitors come from is quite remarkable with regulars coming from Bermagui, Bega, Cooma, Goulburn, Wagga and Sydney. The fantastic efforts of the Wednesday crew have increased the number of traps that have been permanently located on the range in weather and pellet proof facilities which has decreased the time taken to set up however volunteers to help set up the course on the Saturday afternoon before the shoot are still few and far between. Jason Kite & Nelson Cox American Skeet: The last year has been a great year for skeet at Canberra Inter, with an approximate five fold increase in the number of skeet targets thrown and shot at. Throughout the year there has been a strong core of social skeet shooters who have met to solve the problems of the world, enjoy some coffee, cake and camaraderie and shoot at some skeet targets when time permits. I d like to thank Sarah Spalding my co-coordinator for assistance throughout the year and we wish her well in recovery from recent major shoulder reconstruction surgery. I d also like to thank John Taylor and Neil Goodwin for filling in when I have not been able to make Skeet Sunday s. In particular thanks goes to Mark Kearins and Dave Marshal for their dedication and assistance throughout the year in setting up and packing up the layouts after shooting has finished. With a couple of more competition shoots in July and November, as well as many more social skeet Sundays to enjoy, I m looking forward to the year ahead and to meeting more members who are keen to smash a few skeet targets. Andrew Figtree 3

Trench: Another quiet year with the trench being used mainly for the Xmas shoot by the CICTC members. Trench usage over the 3-5 March period was by the ACTA Junior development squad which saw over 1700 trench targets thrown. Coming up is a four day camp by Shooting Australia in early May for the elite training squad. It is projected that 10,000 targets will be shot across Olympic skeet and trench, mainly trench. Brent Murphy DTL: There continues to be steady turnouts of around three squads per shoot throughout the year with a peak of 8 squads to the January shoot, a tough day but one that I hope reinforced to visiting shooters that we intend to be a success. Thursday night DTL continues be a success and has been a pretty good recruiting ground this discipline with more potential helpers appearing and more competition shooters turning at the monthly comps. The targets shot on Thursdays equate to approximately the same number that is shot at the monthly comp shoot. I d like to thank all the helpers Smithy, Geoff Mills and I have had through the year, Trish Coates, Brooke & Natalie Hitchenson, Josh Balogh and Jason Goldstraw to name a few. Your help on shoot days has been invaluable and your get in and do attitude is much appreciated. Some great improvements already achieved by Josh and Jason so far, next on the list very soon are a pair of new DTL traps and voice releases coming to the club very soon! This is it for me as the lead on DTL Sunday shoots, thanks to all that have supported me through the running of these shoots. James Jonklaas 5 Stand: 5 Stand this year has been quite successful. We had a few changes during the year, moving down past the trench lay out and trialling Thursday night 5 stand. The Wednesday workers continue to be invaluable to 5 stand and get the disciple ready for the monthly 5 stand competition. Generally we now have seven traps in the competition, which provides a wide range of targets to shoot. We have seen some new faces turning up to 5 stand regularly which is fantastic. The Thursday night 5 stand was not a huge success, with numbers ranging from one to nine, this week night shoot has now completed, due to lack of numbers and daylight savings. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of John Taylor, Neil Goodwin and Rob Butterworth and thank them for their continued support of me and the 5 stand disciple. Trish Coates 4

Caretakers report: As is the case every year, a lot of work has gone in to protecting, maintaining, and further improving our club grounds and facilities since the last AGM. With the assistance of Russell Stephenson, Rob Butterworth and Trish Coates our perimeter fence safety signage has been replaced, minor fence repairs made and the usual weeding, watering, fertilising and mowing of the grounds has the place looking great. The trees in our three revegetation areas are coming along really well and most importantly there have been no instances of vandalism or theft of club property. A weather monitoring station has been erected on our grounds to assist the department of Forestry fire management and to collect a variety of weather related metrics important to the Bureau of Meteorology. Parks and Conservation are busy promoting the various historic sites in the Glenburn / Burbong / Kowen Forest areas so members are advised that you can expect to see more bushwalkers and mountain bike riders visiting the various sites around our grounds and using Charcoal Kiln Road to access them. The new front gate on the Kings Highway will have some car parking in front of it to accommodate these visitors. Tree harvesting behind our clubhouse continues at a frantic rate so there are plenty of logging trucks and associated vehicles using Charcoal Kiln Road, combined with the increase in pedestrians club members and guests are encouraged to drive with due caution. Please remember that a lot of effort and cost goes in to cleaning up and removing the rubbish and cardboard generated from our activities. It s greatly appreciated when people take home their own cardboard boxes or any other waste material instead of dumping it at the club. Just like helping out the co-ordinators facilitate our various events, if every member and guest makes a small and reasonable effort to help clean up around the place we ll all enjoy and benefit from having a club we can be proud of so if you haven t pitched in and you re wondering what you can do to help please have a chat to the Caretaker or your discipline co-ordinator. Cheers, Andrew Paddison 5

Let There Be New Lights Well after around 12 months of planning, administration and construction the club has a new set of flood lights covering two DTL and Skeet layouts. Some of the local agencies we had to approach and obtain approvals from were; ACT Planning and Land Authority, The ACT Heritage Council, and the Canberra Airport. The upgrade to the existing lighting consisted of decommissioning the existing Halogen lights and the erection of two new light towers with the installation of more efficient Metal Halide lights. Each new lighting pole has two 2Kw Metal Halide Lights installed. Each of the lights has an output of approximately 220,000Lm. The light housings also comply with the requirements of various Australian Standards covering sport lighting and lighting spill requirements. As with the old proverb Many hands make light work I would like to thank the following members and their colleagues for which without their help the task might have gone to the 2R Tray; Rod Gisik from Sellick Consultants (structural engineers); Jason Goldstraw from Goldcrete (concreting); Gavin Gasnier from Gasnier Electrical; Phillip Herzog from Herzog steel (supply poles); Josh Balogh from JK Built, and Phil Gruber for his assistance. 6

APRIL NEW SHOOTER SUNDAY April New Shooter Sunday fell on Easter Sunday and as such we were a little short on numbers. However, eight people attended with perfect weather for shooting : 18 degrees, no wind and warming sunshine. Jackie and David both shot 9/13 to win High Gun in the Mini Completion. OCTOBER 2016 FIELD AND GAME The October Field and game was sponsored Canberra Body Works - Daren Jones. Daren has sponsored a shoot each year now for a number of years and the members would like to express their thanks for his support. Unfortunately Daren could not attend this year due to a business trip to Japan. The event was shot on rather a cloudy day with fairly strong winds in the afternoon. This turned an average course to a difficult one with some targets at the extreme range. It was a handicap event and results were as follows: HG Matt Webster 86/100 AA Wayne Collins 89 2nd Wayne Thorpe 88 3rd Peter Barlow 86 A Chris Barrowman 90 B John Dunn 92 2nd Simeon Ward 89 C Mathew Green 95 SBS John Sankey (CB) 69 Juniors Darcy Maloney 79 2 nd Michael Priora 48 Vets Lance Harris 55/75 Also our thanks go to Loraine and Jennifer who provided a delicious lunch plus John as usual running the office and keeping us out of trouble. 7

SEPTEMBER 2016 SIM FIELD 44 Shooters turned up for the September 2016 Sim Field event. There were a number of competitors from a variety of locations some travel a few hours to get to the event. Wayne Collins took out High Gun with a 90 OTG with the rest of the results as follows: AA: Matt Webster 86 A: Brendan Walsh 93, Geoff Taylor 91 (count back) and Darrell Lovekin 91 B: Richard Davidson 100, Russell Beckett 96 C: Wade Lovekin 94 Ladies: Trish Coates. Juniors: Michael Priora 50 Vets: Brian Hutson 59 Thanks to the office and canteen volunteers for their efforts in making the day a success. I would also like to thank those members that assist in junior development. We saw an excellent example of this on the shoot with Michael part from the assistance in being brought along to shoot and encouragement, there was the handing over of prizes to help him along. I have said it many times, whilst High Gun is nice to win, juniors is the most important class because it s the future of the sport. For all those that help out, whether in time, money or donating prizes to assist the juniors along, the sport thanks you. DEFENCE STAFF CORP DAY 2016 The club conducted a Corporate day for Defence staff members in early September. Sixteen people attended and took to clay shooting with enthusiasm on a beautiful Canberra Spring afternoon. Justin won the High Gun Mini Comp with a score of 12/13. Our thanks go to Terry, Neil and Brent who were the instructors for the day AUGUST 2016 SIM FIELD August 2016 Sim field provided the first glimpse of spring with perfect shooting weather conditions. High gun went to Mathew Wilesmith with an 86 with the balance as follows: AA Robert Briscoe 83 Rob Butterworth 80 Wayne Collins 79. A. Warren Thorpe 86, Andrew Mackenzie 83, Geoff Taylor 78 B. Tom Shinfield 70, Guy Lynch 64 C. Rodger Sands 67 Vets. Garry Betar 51 (countback) Ladies. Rebecca Wilesmith 68 Juniors. Mathew Wilesmith, Darcy Maloney, Aiden Coleman With the warmer weather in front of this, competitors are reminded that if there is a total fire ban then the shoot will be automatically cancelled for safety reasons. CORP DAY AUG 2016 Tim, family and friends chose clay target shooting for his 17th birthday celebrations. About ten people tried their hand and, the group quickly grasped the fundamentals with some good scores being shot. The weather was fairly cold with the early morning start (0900) and later in the day a strong wind made for chilly shooting conditions. Sean High Gunned with 10/13 which was quite remarkable having never shot before. Our thanks go to James and Brent who were the instructors for the day. 8

DTL Results August 2016 Twenty three shooters came out for the last of the winter shoots and were greeted with conditions, while cold, about as good as they could be. Most of us were disappointed in the scores we shot but nonetheless the results were generally tight. The opening event of the day saw 4 shooters post possibles with three amongst the AA graders and a nice 25 by C grader Peter Maloney. Lots of scratching of heads behind them on 24s and lower. The championship event was close fought with Josh Balogh taking it by one point on 119 ahead of Barry Skinner, Dave Turner and B grader Dave Meakin. Nice work Mr Meakin. The end result for the day had Josh Balogh once again taking home the badges on offer.
