4 Class 8: 3 units of vegetable (same or different) ROSE OBELISK - $250 (If there enough orders it will be less) Richard has offered to make this steel structure and have it galvanised. It has three pins to secure frame. It is Sandra Ross design and she has underplanted hers with 2 roses. UNSH would need to order 5-6 obelisks to make it worthwhile for him as he has to send the frames away to be galvanised. It will be on display in situ underplanted with roses at September meeting. Please UNSH to order one. You will need to make a deposit of $50 at September meeting. FEEDBACK WANTED It is being considered at State level that the Membership costs be changed. The individual annual cost would remain at $30. But the household cost would rise to $35. This would bring the fees in line with other garden organisations. Could you please send a quick to UNSH to give your vote for or against this motion. We will then take this feedback to next State meeting in November. UNSH Newsletter Page 4 Class 7 : 3 units fruit (same or different)

5 Class 3 To Brigitte Eckardt for an amazing power point presentation on how roses can be used in the garden and the different forms of roses. An incredible talk with gorgeous photos. Members were ooing and rring at the stunning images. Left: August speaker and Rose Advisor to UNSH Brigitte Eckardt from Green E Roses. Left: Stephanie Judges Middle: Daughter, Bianca Right: Rosie Ceruti Photos: Rosie Ceruti Thank you also to Member Speaker Stephanie Judges who gave a lovely talk on how she fell in love with roses. Her favourite being the Hybrid Teas and especially the scented red rose, Avon. Thank you to all the members who came to the August meeting and came early to collect their Neutrog order. There are a few still to be collected. If you haven t already contacted UNSH by or phone, could you do so to arrange a prompt collection preferable before the next meeting. It worked out well that we had our meeting inside with the power point presentation and the Neutrog filled the carport, as it was freezing outside! Thank you to Trish Piper who brought 2 boxes of fruit from her garden to share-tangellos and Grapefruit. Special thank you to Desiree who braved the freezing cold to check off Neutrog orders! Thank you to all those members who benched their exhibits. A stunning show bench. Remember to register your exhibits when you arrive. There is a table with the months Benching Schedule and benching slips and a clipboard for you to write your name and number of exhibits and classes entered. Just summarise in one section. Our regional group has just adopted TWO roses. One modern and one old to signify the importance of both to rose lovers. The first is Hybrid Tea, Rosa Kardinal. We chose this to signify where the group was set up-ie Birchgrove where there is a climbing Kardinal on the barn. This is a Medal winning rose and has won the Chair many prizes when benching. It is a sturdy rose throwing long canes. Unlike other roses that are prone to wilting when benching it hold its petals and its majestic shape. The velvety petals make one wonder whether it is the inspiration for the material velvet. Photo Rosie Ceruti Old World Climber, Rosa Sombreuil (1850) A charming and refined climber. Flat, quartered, creamy white rosettes tinged with pink. Delicious tea scent. Repeats well. Photo NSW Rose Society UNSH Newsletter Page 8
