2 Minutes General Meeting 14 June 2018 Cymbidium Club of Australia Inc. Meeting opened at 8.15pm. Geoff Le Marne welcomed all to the evening. Apologies Betty Chan, Helen & John Palmer, Jessie Gatt, P. Vesta. Visitors Regina, Rob Wells. New members Regina Tan, Mary John. Raffle plants supplied by GLM are Prized 105 x Twilight N Gold (Standard Orange). GLM greeted Members and Guests and opened by asking all how their orchids were going. This was greeted with general laughter. There is fairly wide incidence of bud drop. He has found the whites and greens are faring better, but the other colours are dropping buds and/or the new buds are browning off quite early. We need the cool temperatures in Spring to initiate the flower spikes and also in Autumn for the flowers to produce well. Upcoming events July WINTER SHOW; note the prizes have increased to $100 + sash for show winner $50 + sash for each class winner. ORCHIDS IN THE FOOTHILLS (18 th 22 nd ), please support the display being put on by the Club, setup for display Wednesday morning prior to the Show. Judging Thursday. Orchids in the Foothills are also looking for volunteers to help out free entry for a! day work contact Toni Benton. August NATIONAL ORCHID EXTRAVAGANZA, remember this is a week earlier than usual. It has not yet been decided if we will hold a meeting in August. Committee will decide closer to the time. Setup Wednesday August, benching Thursday morning until 11.30am. Judging Thursday afternoon. September SPRING SHOW $100 + sash for show winner $50 + sash for each class winner. October Speaker - Roger Harriman Australian Species vember ****CHRISTMAS PARTY**** Nat Cicciari has kindly offered to take delivery of a Neutrog order on behalf of Club Members, on the proviso that all products ordered be picked up from his home. We need an overall order of 44 bags to make a pallet load, which is then delivered at no charge. The two products for order are: 20 kilo bag of Seamungus for $22, 20 kilo bag of Strikeback pellets for $30 each. Please advise Nat (Mobile ) of your order and either pay him cash or send a cheque through to Judith Brooks for payment please include a note of your order details so they can be cross-checked with Nat. ALL ORDERS MUST BE PAID FOR IN ADVANCE. The order will be put in following our next meeting in July. The meeting broke for supper. Following supper David Brooks gave an informative and detailed presentation and on Where to now with Cymbidiums. Thankyou David. Benching results and raffle followed David Brook s presentation. The meeting closed at 10 pm.

The tables are certainly filling up at each meeting with more and more beautifully flowering plants coming in. I'm sure we will have a great display at the Winter Show in July and best of luck to all. Thank you to David Brooks for his presentation at last month's meeting on orchid breeding, past and present, and looking at the possibilities for where things could go in the future. It certainly provoked some interesting discussion afterwards. Some individuals feel that cymbidiums have gone as far as they can and there is nothing new to be achieved, but the presentation certainly showed that there are still many possibilities to be investigated. And of course in August we will have the National Orchid Extravaganza at The Centre, Dural. We are hoping the change in weekend, to the first weekend of August, will not affect numbers adversely and hope you have all been getting the word out. I have already had calls from several retirement villages who are looking to attend and we will do the usual advertising in the newspapers and radio to try to reach as wide an audience as we can. We are still looking for volunteers to help with the show setup and general running over the weekend. Please let us know if you will be able to help with the setup on Wednesday and manning the entry desk over the weekend, as well as assisting with the Club Sales Table and parking area, if needed. 14 2018 NATIONAL ORCHID EXTRAVAGANZA RULES Exhibitors must be affiliated members of an Orchid Society. All plants must have been owned and grown by the exhibitor for a minimum of six (6) months. Each exhibit must have the name of the plant correctly printed on the business size card supplied. A seedling is the whole plant raised from seed, which has not been divided and is being shown for the first time during its current flowering season. For clarity, 'seedling' will apply, at this show, to hybrids only All nominated classes must be registered with the Show Marshal by am Thursday, 10 th August to receive the appropriate identification tag (cymbidiums only). All benching to be completed by am, as judging will commence shortly thereafter. The Show Marshals are authorised to reject any exhibit. All care and reasonable caution for the safety and security of exhibits will be exercised. responsibility for loss, damage or destruction to any such exhibits will be accepted by the Cymbidium Club of Australia Inc, the Show Committee or the Sponsors, and any exhibitor will have no claim whatsoever against the sponsors or any of the clubs involved. If in the judge s opinion, any exhibit in any class does not warrant a prize, then the prize will not be given. All judge s decisions will be FINAL. The Cymbidium Club of Australia Inc, reserves the right to photograph any exhibit for its own purposes or for publication in any form. Once staged, no entry may be removed prior to the completion of the show, without the permission of the Show Marshal. Prizes will be in the form of cheques, ribbons/rosettes, trophies as per show schedule. All plants MUST be in show bench condition. One bloom per clone per exhibitor (i.e. 1 of Lovely Angel 'Bubbles', 1 of Coco Jim Starquest etc) Bloom cymbidiums are NOT eligible for Grand Champion or Reserve Champion Displays are eligible to win only one category prize When staging a floral display the exhibit must be ORCHID flowers only. Embellishments are allowable as long as it does not contain other flowers (Wattle, Strelitzia etc) Ultra miniatures will be judged under the same rules as miniatures flowers and the flower size will be up to 35mm.
