1 ISSUE #12, May 2017 IN THIS ISSUE: Harry Potter quiz P6 Book review! P3 Skipping crazy! by Skye, Opal On Thursday 18 th May, we had the skipathon! Our aim was 10,000 but we did 110,000! It was really fantastic! We also raised lots of money for the charity British Heart Foundation as well as for our school. Lots of fun games! P9 Also we get 20% of the money so now we have a lot of money to spend on new playtime or sports equipment! Miss Fitzsimmons said that the School Council can help us all choose what to buy! The SATs Story By Jaffar, Quartz I guess you`re probably wondering what happens in Quartz Class before, during and after SATs (not unless you re in Year 6 then of course you would know!).

Afterwards we had a two week holiday (where we did even more practice).

3 The SATs Story By Jaffar, Quartz I guess you`re probably wondering what happens in Quartz Class before, during and after SATs (not unless you re in Year 6 then of course you would know!). Well I m going to tell about the whole SATs story. You re probably thinking that the revision starts in the term of the SATs but it actually starts in the term before when we do practice tests. Afterwards we had a two week holiday (where we did even more practice). The first, the second and the third weeks of the Summer term were spent revising but the fourth we only do quizzes so we don t overdo it on revision. It all begins with the Reading SATs on Monday, on Tuesday we did the Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar SATs. Then on Wednesday and Thursday we did Arithmetic and two Reasoning papers. That was that. We all hoped for the best. We celebrated the end of the SATs week with a picnic for us all in year 6. It was really fun! Book review by Eydis, Sapphire Katy by Jacqueline Wilson Katy is about a girl who breaks her back and has to get used to being in a wheelchair. Soon she gets used it and starts to have a nearly normal life again. I would recommend this book to people who like books that are long and sad but funny. Jacqueline Wilson is a very good author. The characters in her books often face serious challenges or situations that leave them hopeless. But it s very exciting to read about how they overcome their challenges. Fortunately all her books end well. 3

4 Meet the teacher: Miss McManus Eydis interviewed Miss McManus for the Emmanuel Express newspaper. What did you work as before a teacher? My most exciting job before I was a teacher was working in a surf school in Hawaii. It was loads of fun and I got to wear shorts and t-shirts every day and no shoes! I worked in the shop helping people with their lessons and getting all the boards ready. Then I would go out into the waves with the instructors and push people on to the waves, as well as keeping them safe in the water. I also got to go surfing every day so I really liked that! What is your favourite book? I have got a lot of favourite books but I really love the Harry Potter books. My favourite was the goblet of fire. Another favourite of mine is Fantastic Mr Fox. It s so funny. Do you prefer books or movies? I think I prefer the books because I like imagining the characters myself. I like thinking about the setting, what it would be like, where they live. Sometimes when you read a book it s a bit disappointing when you watch the film. For example, I didn t imagine Hermione in Harry Potter the way she was in the film! I also love illustrations and pictures in books. You can have discussions about books and the pictures in them but you can t do that with films in the same way. I think books leave more to the imagination and the reader. What is your favourite season? Definitely summer. I love it when it s hot and I especially like it when it is light in the evenings. Summer term in school is the best, as we do so much fun stuff! 4

People even do Youtube videos on them. It s so amazing!!! And people that work at Lamborghini even made a Lamborghini fidget spinner. They look like Lamborghini is well. Did you know that Roblox used to be called Dynoblox. If you've never played Roblox you should play it. IT S AWESOME. Year 3/4 football match report by Bailey, Amber On Tuesday the 9th of May Mr Gerado took a team of 8 to go and represent the school in a football tournament. Once we got there Mr Gerado showed the formation of the team. We played a Did you know that we scored 10 goals altogether? We won 4 games and drew 1. From there we went on to play the Quarter- final that we won 1-0 to move on to the semi- final that we lost by penalties so we had 1 more match and we beat Gospel Oak 1-0 and we got a bronze medal which was for being the third best school in Camden. 8
