Introduction Do you think your residence hall has what it takes to win? Then come participate in a week long campus-wide event that will put you and your hall up against all of the rest on campus. Residents on Campus Fest, most commonly known as ROC Fest, is a weeklong event put on by the Residence Hall Association or RHA to promote friendly competition and spirit between the halls. By participating in the events each night, you will be helping your hall earn points. The hall with the most points at the end of the week is the winner. This year, the theme for ROC Fest 2016 is Once Upon a Time: Fairy Tales and Happily Ever Afters. So bring your best prince or princess crown, suit or dress, and nicest shoes (or glass slippers) and join us for a week of fun. The winner of ROC Fest will get bragging rights and the official ROC Fest guitar to display in their hall for the upcoming year. If you have any questions, please contact the President of RHA at nabamert@eiu.edu or the Vice President of Community Engagement at mcdamore@eiu.edu. 3

Window Display This year, RHA has decided to let each hall choose whether they want to do a window display or a banner display. This is your chance to show your creativity and pride to the rest of campus. The window or banner that you display must incorporate the words Once Upon a Time, your hall s subtheme, #EIUROCFest 2016, and the dates of ROC Fest (September 26 September 30). If you choose to paint windows, you must paint at least two windows. Each hall will have the option to choose their own subtheme which is on a first come first serve basis and is up to the discretion of the RHA executive board as to whether or not it fits the overall theme. Windows will be judged in three different categories: neatness and detail, most creative, and best incorporating of your ROC Fest subtheme. They will be due on Thursday, September 22 at 5pm (the Thursday before the week of ROC Fest). 5

Panther Babies HELP! 200 of the panther babies of EIU have escaped and are hiding around campus. Each night 50 panther babies will be running around in the wild. It is your job to find them and bring them back to safety. There are three different types of panther babies: the common panther babies, the rare panther babies, and the almost extinct panther babies. The common panther babies are worth 2 points each, the rare panther babies are worth 5 points each, and the almost extinct panther babies are worth 10 points each. Each of the panther babies must be registered in order to ensure that they have been brought back to safety. When you find a panther baby, there will be a code on the back. To register your panther baby, visit pantherbabies.php In order to ensure that everything is fair for all residents, no one is allowed to search for panther babies before it is posted on Facebook or you will be disqualified. Good luck! 6

Panther Babies Note: Panther Babies will be located throughout main campus, Buzzard, Tarble Arts, Lincoln, Stevenson, and Douglas. 7

Trivia Night Are you ready to test your knowledge about all things EIU and beyond? Then come join us for a night of trivia and minute to win it activities. Teams will consist of 5 players per team, and halls may have as many teams as they wish. Each team will have the chance to compete against each other by answering a series of ten questions from each category written by all of the different halls. Each person who attends will get one point for their hall. You must check in with us to receive points and be able to participate in the trivia. The team that wins will get a prize. 8

Scavenger Hunt How well do you think you know EIU? Test your skills in a five-hour photo scavenger hunt. There will be 12 teams with each hall as its own team. Teams will be given a list of buildings and locations on campus. Your team s goal is to go to every location, perform a task, and take a photo of you doing that task. Upload your pictures with the hashtag EIUROCFest2016 and your hall to your choice of social media. In addition to that, teams will also earn points by visiting every residence hall on campus including Greek Court. Each hall will have a designated person to initial your forms. In order to get your sheet initialed by the hall director, you must perform a task chosen by the hall. The scavenger hunt starts officially at 12 pm which is when hall directors will be able to start stamping your sheets, but you may visit all of the academic buildings and other locations before then and throughout the day. At 4:30, teams may start heading up to the RHA office (located in the main lobby of Stevenson) where one of the RHA executive board members will check your sheet. Please only send 1-5 people from your team up to the office. The scavenger hunt ends at 5 pm. The winning team is the team that visits the most locations. Participating in the scavenger hunt will lead to a mystery event that will be held September 28th at 7pm in Pemberton s Great Hall. Good luck! 9

Boat Relay Do you think you have what it takes to compete in a relay race against the rest of campus? Come out and test your skills in the annual boat relay race. You and your team are tasked with creating a boat made out of only cardboard and duct tape to race across the campus pond. Rules of the Race 1. Teams will consist of up to 5 people. The race is a relay. The team will consist of three rowers and two people who will push the designated rower into the pond. The teammates must live in the residence hall that they are racing for. Each of the teammates will need to sign a waiver prior to participating in the race or they will not be able to participate. Most importantly, you must be able to swim in water where you cannot touch the bottom. 2. Boats must ONLY be constructed out of cardboard and duct tape. The boat must be a boat including sides and a bottom. The side have to be at least 3 inches tall of they will not be considered sides. To be able to row you will need a paddle. You must provide this yourself by constructing one with only card board and duct tape or buying one from the store. Make sure to put what hall you are from somewhere on the boat so it can be easily identified from the other residence halls. 10

3. There is a decorating contest. Each boat will be judge based on the creativity, theme, and overall structure. Each hall can use the overall theme of Once Upon a Time or they can use their subtheme, your choice. Just make sure the theme is present or points will be deducted. 4. First team and boat across the pond three times is the winner. You cannot disrupt other boats by jumping into theirs or be violent by constantly smashing into other boats. If you happen to fall out of your boat, you must find a way back in to be able to continue. When the boat approaches the edge of the pond, the boat must touch the edge to count as a full lap. Whichever side of the pond the rower is heading towards the designated pushers must be present to help take the boat out of the water, and must push the next rower into the water for each lap. For the race to be completed and for there to be a winner, the entire team needs to cross the finish line next to the designated person. Your boat must be out of the water or your finish does not count until done so. 11
